Premier League Matchday 4 (Sep 9-11)

Nani wasn't running full speed.
Nani was turning and couldn't see the player.
Nani didn't stud him in the face.

Anyone comparing the two is a complete fool.

Calm yourself. You've just compared the two yourself. You'd do well to try and be more constructive instead of sounding so petulant. The two offending players were trying to do the same thing - trap a ball with a high foot. It's not far fetched for fans to see similarities despite the differing context.

This is a stupid lack of context. It's the fact Mane has gone into a challenge he's second favourite for, sprinted into it with full force, and recklessly endangered his opponent that is the issue.

The players you mention might sometimes control a high ball, but it's nowhere near alike.
As for Nani, his situation is nowhere near the same thing.

Would be nice if people could manage to give reasoned arguments without resorting to calling other arguments stupid. Seems the general groupthink in this thread has emboldened some to be overly aggressive in demanding we all listen to how right they are.

I disagree that it's a fact Mane was second best to that ball. When the ball broke over the top he looked odds on to me and I'd he had flown in and looked to nod it on, he'd have won the race. Him looking to bring it down with his foot slowed him and allowed Ederson to fly in and nick it.

Liverpool have already conceded 3 goals in a match on two occasions this season and we're only 4 games into the season

Fecks sakes city will catch up on goal difference at this rate. Liverpool need to pull their finger out.

Also why take Salah off and put the Ox?

Your lads need to forget about a consolation goal and see the game out.

Otherwise this could turn into the 1-6 we experienced when we went chasing a lost cause.
I feel the same way. This could be any number now with how we're defending.

I'm not one for superstition, but why would Klopp bring on Oxlade Chamberlain when his last debut in Manchester was an 8-2 loss?

the red card will hide the fact Liverpool are crap in defence...

...perhaps not.
It shouldnt, its not as if their goalkeeper was red carded or their defensive mid was. It was winger who isnt expected to come in and defend. No excuses for Liverpool defense especially on the third goal.

feck they could be 6-0 up already.

At first sight I thought a yellow should have sufficed for Mane. Changed my mind though! Because despite having eyes on the ball he must have known Ederson was there in his peripheral vision, and it's simply reckless to go in studs up like that.

I would have brought on Bernardo Silva. Easy match to integrate him. Wonder why he's not on yet

Please don't concede anymore! Good idea resting our main players and giving the fringe a run out. The games over anyway.

commentators crying for Milner because he got booed when he came on

I've already said it was the correct call so not sure what argument you're trying to have?

I'm just saying it's not as black and white, good and evil, right and wrong as some of you are making it out to be.

When each player set off there, Mane looked to be favourite. He slowed down, eyes on the ball and looked to bring it down.

Ederson came in at a million miles an hour and got there first. If Mane touches the ball a split second before and Ederson plows into him it's a totally different conversation.

I know it's important to ensure player safety but it's my opinion that if a keeper can fly in with his head at a hundred miles an hour that far outside the box, he bears some of the responsibility as well.

Either we totally ban touching the ball with your foot above chest height regardless of whether or not someone's head is nearby, or we show some leniency to a player attempting to bring the ball down who gets beaten to it by an opponent.

When Zlatan or Berbatov or somebody else takes the ball down exactly as Mane was attempting to do right there we all say what great touch it is. Then when another player flies in from miles away it's suddenly a red. Needs to be every time or never.

Anyway, game ruined by that. Wonder how many of the adament keyboard warriors were arguing the other way for Nani a few years ago?
