Premier League Gameweek 26

I’ve seen enough of Raphinha to think he’d do alright at United, not great tonight but still has something about him.

Leeds have been extremely petulent today, childish and annoying for 90 minutes. Bamford looks like a nice guy, but he’s had he Ronaldo-like arrogance towards the referee for some reason - he is pretty far away from that swagger. Chill down and focus on playing football, posh tw*t - he had an absolute stinker.

Thought Villa had a lot of pathetic moments too.
Mings feigning injury in the last min, Martinez pretending to be injured to waste more time for defenders to take the kicks etc.

Llorente the worst though for a triple roll "Injury" and then straight up.

Man the football has been so shit this Saturday I don’t know if I can sit through a Wolves v Newcastle match, might just end me...

As I sad pre-Chelsea you won 9 of 13 titles.. after Joses 2, you won 5 of the next 7. It was clear you were pulling away. If you exclude City and Chelsea you'd have been first in 16 of the first 21 premier league seasons (of course there are variables) but that is simply implying you won the title in seasons you finished either 1st of 2nd. Without the oil clubs you'd have won 8 titles in a row from 06 to 2013

I'm not for a second saying City and Chelsea's investment was good for football but we can't argue it's held up United a little bit.

But you’re making the mistake of focusing on one club....with or without city, Untied would’ve fallen into a slump post fergie. Giving the chance for a number of clubs to prosper.

We had an era under fergie, 30 years before that an era under Busby. Leeds Liverpool Forest Everton Villa Blackburn Arsenal had great spells in those times and fa cups and league cups were up for grabs for anyone. Have a look at your starting 11 today....then have a look at your bench. Look at your record in the cups over the past 5/6 years....everyone literally has to pray you get knocked out before they have a chance due to the strength of your squad. Tell me how anyone is competing with you in the next ten years. Your bench today would walk the league. We won leagues with 4-6 players from our academy in the starting 11 and the likes of John Curtis, Jonathan greening, Phil Neville, obertan and david bellion on the bench.

If you have a squad For the next ten years, like you have had for the past ten years...like you had today .....that is only good for Manchester City. Absolute nonsense that it’s good for football. Rubbish.

Football clubs will never compete with Arab nations, no matter how big, especially since you pissed all over ffp which was the only hope of another club competing with you.

I don’t expect you to care, I wouldn’t if I were a blue but it’s nonsense that this has been for the benefit of anyone other than City. You’re stopping most other clubs winning the league cup or fa cup most seasons.

Because without the Chelsea and City oil money, we might have win 9-10 in a row, or certainly 8 every decade.
Although without the unnatural oil money, perhaps Liverpool or Arsenal might have battled it out more regularly.

See my reply to the poster, regardless of the era we had under fergie....we would’ve been in a slump for the past 8 years. That has nothing to do with City. Giving the chance for Liverpool, Spurs, Leicester actual football clubs to win many trophies.

Have a look at city’s starting 11 and bench today and tell me how football competes with that over the next ten years.

Football can’t compete with an Arab nation and long term that only benefits MCFC

Nice team performance from us. Electric for first 20 minutes. Fizzled out in attack after but we were solid enough and important to actually win a game without Grealish.

Nakamba had his best game for us reading play superbly and I'd actually have Konsa ahead of Mings in the England pecking order.

The gulf is not as embarrassing as those United fans who can’t accept that United are not the best team in England anymore and it’s someone else’s turn to dominate.
City have unlimited money and owners/board who have a clear roadmap.
United have very greedy owners who leave all responsibility to the manager.
Everyone talks about what’s happening at the moment and this season City are running away with the league. No one was talking about them last season and it was all Liverpool. Now no one is talking about Liverpool. It could be City again next season, but it could also be someone else.

It’s up to us how fast we close the gap. We will never have City’s money so we need to be clever and more patient in our progress and recruitment (basically what we did between 2003 and 2006). And this time it might even take longer as as a club we were not a disaster at all pre 2003, but we have been disastrous in the last 7+ years.

Whoever can’t take this should just stop watching City’s games and the Sky/BT aftermath and all that instead of constantly asking the 2.5 City fans we have here how they feel about their ownership.

This is true....if we can overtake City it will be with a long term plan using academy players and investing wisely. Will be very difficult....look at their squad today. Mind blowing.

Yeah, it was a Tactical masterclass from Dean Smith. Never seen Leeds look so rubbish going forward. Kept a really good shape in that second half. Put Ramsey and Nakamba in to match Leeds running energy, got in sharp on Raphinha.

Was pleased he mixed up the midfield, Barkley been poor for weeks and is pretty rubbish against any team that does a mega press. Luiz dipped from his high standards aswell in recent times.

Our squad isn't amazing compared to many of the teams around or below us but the squad players have done great jobs coming in for games here and there so should be more confidence shown in them.

Liverpool with less than a fifth of their netspend, went toe to toe with them a couple of years back and won the title on a trot last year. Multiple threads on the caf writing off City after they were thrashed by Leicester. If all it took to be successful was spending more money than others, then City and United should be finishing top 2 and reaching the finals of CL every year.

They're not that good for goodness sake. This isn't even the best City have been this last 3 years.
Zinchenko, a 35 year old Ferdinandho, a near the end Aguero, Torres etc

They didn't even win the league last year, so let's not make silly talk about 10 years time.

The oiling himself up act is getting a little boring now especially when he’s only got 1 goal all season

You have some kind of a point but I don't think you would have fallen so far. I mean look at the player who became the backbone of City, they'd either be at Real, Barca, Bayern or United. Players like David Silva, Eden Hazard, KDB etc.. United wouldn't have fallen away so badly, football in the 2000's and now is nothing like football with eras. There is no coming back from what football became in the 00's. People don't see it but the era of AC Milan's etc.. is done. Real and Barca will win 9 of every 10 titles in Spain for eternity, Bayern the same in Germany, PSG in France, Juve in Italy. They may occasionally drop here or there but they'll always bounce back. There is no oil money in the Bundesliga and aside from Klopps 5 minutes in the sun its been relentless. There is no more cycles, there are 15 huge top feeders (which now include oil clubs like us, Chelsea and PSG) who simply feed off the rest, the day of an Aston Villa or whoever rising up to claim a place among the elite for an era is done buddy. Since the money started coming into football in the 90's its been becoming more and more monopolized. Those spells for Leeds, etc.. were never gonna be repeated and having Blackburn in there is unfair as they literally did exactly what City and Chelsea did.

I'll say it here and now, Villa, Forest, Leeds without huge backing will never win another title ever unless there is a breakaway super league and never would have after the 2000's or if they win an odd trophy it won't stick ala Dortmund in Germany. There is no more era's of club a or b. Football has become haves and have not's and in England this started with the formation of the premier league. City and Chelsea forced their way in the door thinks to wealthy benefactors and that is the only way anyone else gets in the door. Sure its possible to win the occasional trophy but answer me this.

If City, PSG and Chelsea didn't have what they have now, do you think Marseille, Forest etc.. could ever win another European Cup? Without those 3 clubs, the same winners would still win year in year out. United, Liverpool occasionally Arsenal (just not in Europe), Barca, Real and occasionally Atletico, Bayern and occasionally Dortmund, Juve and occasionally one of the MIlan sides.

I never once said City/PSG were good for football, I implied they were bad for United and prevented United getting a Bayern like stranglehold on English football nothing more.

Hers an example of how the transition in football was going before City and post City.
CL winners in the 80's: Steau Bucharest, PSV, Milan, Porto, Juve, LIverpool, Villa (8 clubs in 10 years)
CL winners in the 10's. Real, Barca, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern. No team from outside the big 5 leagues even made the final, Jose in 03/04 being the last.

CL Finalists by League:
80's: England x 4, Spain x 2, Germany x 3, Italy x 5, Romania x 1, Portugal x 3
10's: England x 5, Spain x 8, Germany x 4, Italy x 2, France x 1 (that 1 being an oil club).

The only club not from a big 5 league to appear in a final since 96/97 is Jose's Porto, the 70's alone had finalists from Greece, Sweden, Belgium. The 60's had Scotland and Yugoslavia. Football was becoming a closed shop since the 90's.
With or without Chelsea's arrival the money in the game was closing the shop, the rich were getting richer and football had already reached the point where Ajax, PSV, Celtic, RedStar, Benfica etc.. were already just feeder clubs for the big guns.

Just saw West Brom vs Brighton. Calling it now, Brighton are going to get relegated. They're fantastic to watch but not clinical at all, they're lack of goals are going to be their downfall.

Which cruel savage bastard decided to put Newcastle vs fecking Wolves as the Saturday night prime time game during lockdown?! The world has suffered enough over the past year, we didn't need this on top of it.

I really don't think pronouncing "maximin" correctly is beyond the reach of gammon commentators but they insist on "maximum" and it's doing my head in.

Yeah, that pissed me off too. Don't want any more of that shite out of him.

Thought we were awful and Villa defended well but my god they were shithouse for 60 minutes.
