Premier League Gameweek 17-19

Hard to deny Arsenal are in a strong position but next 3 league games will be a proper test.

Newcastle
Spurs
United

Ok, 2 out of the next 3 will be a proper test and the other will be Spurs.

Get through this and they might just do it. Never imagined they'd be shutting down the bottling plant.

It doesn't really matter much because City's run is terrible before their match vs Arsenal. Arsenal could lose all 3 of these games and I still think City would be more than 7 points behind when they face Arsenal.

Maybe but that isn't the rule no? So, pretty straightforward.

Anyway, got there in the end. The subs from us made that much more dangerous..

Odegaard is elite.
Odegaard is fantastic and imo Solskjaer missed a trick not signing him. Odegaard is the correct profile of AM for a possession based coach like Arteta/EtH.

Offside should be strictly about gaining an advantage by being in an offside position. Being one or two millimetres off doesn't strike me as significantly advantageous. Nor does coming back from an offside position.
Then it goes to the opinion of the referees which will see even more inconsistency which we see on other greyer decisions

This way it's black and white (when applied correctly)

I think it should be based around the position or your feet more.

They will get atleast 7 points from those games I reckon

Yes, my problem is with the black and white of 1mm off means offside. It's stupid. Offside should be clearly defined in such a way that we all agree there was an advantage. A toe is not an advantage. A trailing portion of a foot when coming back onside is not an advantage.

VAR has entrenched the rigidity of the rule and it's detrimental to the game. Define offside as a quarter of a leg or a meaningful portion of a body being offside.

Surely you see the issue with trying to implement that

Don't get me wrong I kinda get what you're saying but this will open up a huge can

If Arsenal lose all 3 matches, the scousers are back in it. Which will be the worst nightmare ever!

It was offside. Been discussing it for a while with my mate (who incidentally supports Arsenal) that those types of offsides are the exact opposite of what the rule aims to do. Mitoma is gaining no advantage by being past the defensive line there. In fact, he’s at a disadvantage haha. Our proposed change is that a player can only be offside if the ball to them breaks the defensive line.

What test? It is one game at a time and the goal for the season is a top 4 spot.

I know youre doing the same thing as Liverpool fans did a few years ago, but at this point you're in a title race and the goal should be shifted to wanting to win the league. Having a seven point+ swing and ending up 4th on the final day should be a massive disappointment

Nah, at the start of the season top 4 was always the target. Anything more would be a very nice bonus. We've done brilliantly, but I still fear that an injury to Partey or another key player may break us, like it did last season when we bottled top 4. Jesus is now out for about 2 months - so far, so good, but there's still a long way to go esp once Europe gets underway again.

It means if you're from London and support United despite having no connections to the north west whatsoever.

Doesn't make you less of a fan but it's definitely a sign you're a glory hunter.
can someone explain how I'm a glory hunter given I've been supporting United since before quite a few here were born?
it's akin to be called a champagne socialist but right-wing dunderheads

anyone noticed how little we are on Sky or BT in the coming weeks of the PL. I think it's twice - and then only because we play City and Arsenal...

That’s a poor Spurs side when you look at it, expecting Villa to nab something today

Villa have form for turning up against us (recent league match) and then not even trying against our rivals (recent Liverpool game).

Fully expecting them to hand the game to Spurs

Villa game vs us was a bit odd to be fair to them, they practically scored from every shot they had which is a rarity. We also weren’t up for it which didn’t help.

It was nice to get immediate payback on them a few days later in the league cup. If that hadn't happened i'd still be annoyed by them flopping and fluking their way to a win.

Watching without commentary is really good. Feel like I notice more things than the commentaror directing what I focus on. Should do it more.

If Spurs get 4th Conte has done amazingly well. As he did last year. The squad is so average with the exception of Kane and Son.

Not sure if it’s Sky feed but it feels like there is zero atmosphere at WHL, if it wasn’t for the commentators you would think you are watching it on mute.

I'm so glad we didn't get conte. It really takes spurs conceding one or two for them to play to their potential
