Potential Pogba replacements

Problem is defining what role pogba does. He's not a cm bevbeca he does not run our game and does feck all defensively. He's more an attacking mid who needs space.

We need to really work out what midfield structure we want and then pick who we want to buy.

Precision : under Mourinho.

Look at what Pogba did with France during the world cup, it did more than his fair share of defensive contribution.

I've just watched the U23 game against Middlesbrough on MUTV, and saw some decent performances from some of our young players.

Ethan Hamilton - my pick for man of the match, playing as a Defensive Midfielder, but still got on the scoresheet. He may be a long term replacement for Matic, but I also have suspicions that he'll be the new Ryan Tunnicliffe (i.e. a lot of heart and determination, but not enough ability).

Aidan Barlow - I've thought he's looked a good player in a couple of games recently. He's an Attacking Midfielder with an eye for a pass, and set up the opening goal. He could well have what it takes and is the reason for posting this here, as he could be a replacement for Pogba.

Ro-Shaun Williams - a solid looking Centre Back with a turn of pace, looks calm on the ball, and just never looked troubled in the match. It would be good to see him get a chance sooner rather than later.

Danny Drink Water would be more of a Jose's type of midfielder.

Do we really have to sign somebody. We've got Andreas who can barely get in the team. Fred too. At this stage in the season, we really have nothing to lose. Give these boys a chance and let's see what they can do. Might as well bring Angel Gomes into the picture. That boy is ridiculously talented. We've seen what Sancho, Nelson are doing in Germany. I'm certain given the chance, he'll do very well and shock people in the league.

So the rumours are back.

Eriksen, Rabiot , Fekir would still be my choice .

If we can get Kroos and Varane for Pogba, it wouldn't look that bad either.

Switch to a 4231 and sign James Rodriguez. In the CAM role he can make up for Pogbas output.

If we are sticking to a 433 and want a Pogba replacement in CM then its impossible. No other midfielder can hold players off, dribble, pass, cross and have the vision Pogba has. Savic is a tank who can hold players off but his passing isn't as good. Ndombele has good passing but he doesn't have Pogbas frame.

The best Pogba replacement would be to replace him with two efficient CMs who may not possess his attributes but are consistent in their output. We would also need a winger who can add an extra 15-20 goals and creativity across the front three. If we replace Pogba with CMs who can occasionally chip in but focus on getting the ball to forward players then they will also score more and we will be a better unit. It should not be underestimated how reliant we are on Pogba to create, without him we are shockingly average going forward.

Tanguy Ndombele. What a player he is already.
He has 0 league goals in his 3 professional seasons, hardly a "Pogba replacement"

That would be a pure robbery from our side.
Kroos and Varane have been more consistent and better than Pogba over the past 3/4 years.
Only on current form does Pogba win if you compare him to them.
It's trading one world class player for two. Madrid would never accept.

Eriksen or Fekir. Both have creativity and goals. Also if we could get Car and Kross for Pogba I'd actually be tempted to pull the trigger, dreamland stuff of course.

James is inconsistent and for the CAM role, Pereira would be good and I would rather us invest in Joao Felix

As for a like replacement for Pogba, there is none... and I agree we should buy two players to replace him if we plan on playing the 4-3-3... We could play more as a team if we brought in Ndombele and Rabiot. I would like to have the two of them with keeping Pogba anyways.... But those two would elevate our midfield instantly.

Jokes, how do you think an immobile player like Kroos would look in our side?

Good thing fans like you sit in armchairs rather than in the dugout or boardroom.

I think if he goes we'll restructure the team to a 4-2-3-1, get a proper #10 to play in behind Rashford and add a playmaker to midfield to operate alongside a DM.

Actually thinking about it. I'd take Kroos and 100m and invest it in Eriksen, Couninho or Fekir. Can actually see Real being up for that and is probably the best we could make of the situation.

Fekir and Bruno Fernandes would work. There’s not one player that will be able to.

The only way I will sell Pogba to Real Madrid is if that includes Varane + Casemiro/80mil. For Pogba, his marketing potential has to be considered as well. Then I will get a real playmaker to play the 10, either Fekir or Coutinho. Splash our budget on Sancho for our right, and a new central midfielder. Would challenge for the title I reckon.

Madrid fans say Kroos is finished, there's no point on bringing him here.

I would rather we go in for Ceballos if Pogba decided to go to Madrid. He looked good at Real Betis before his move to Madrid. Also, His performances at the Euro u21 tournament caught my eyes. He was the best player despite the fact that his team didn't win the tournament. His movement, vision and awareness of spaces around him were so superb. He was very difficult to be man-marked all through the tournament.

I have often realised that players who had a great Euro u21 tournament have always gone on to do well in their careers. Players such as Ozil, Bernardo Silva, Mata, Xavi, Thiago, Ceballos etc. If Saul Niguez who wasn't as good as Ceballos at the Euro tournament could carve a niche for himself at Atletico, I don't see why Ceballos can't look good for us.

It's a shame he went to sit on Madrid's bench after his fantastic u21 campaign and performances at Betis but I have no doubt he could do a Sneidjer for us after all, Sneidjer was also dumped to Madrid's bench before he eventually resurrected his career at Inter Milan. Ceballos is still quite young and is already a starter for the Spanish national team despite his lack of games at Madrid and with the Muppet Zidane back at the helm, he's unlikely to get more game times. Ceballos is still my best bet to replace Pogba if he leaves for Madrid.

Pereira is nowhere near good enough to be a starter. James is probably one of the best CAMs on the planet when he is played consistently. The guy has some of the best heading ability and positioning in the box. He can go to the RW cut in and shoot and he also has a wicked cross from the LW. I wouldn't be against it if we can improve other areas in the team. It would give us a replacement for Pogbas output and Woodward a new toy. But yes I would prefer two CMs in Rabiot and Ndombele. However, Matic is also on his way out so by the next 2-3 transfer windows we should see a totally new trio in midfield.

I'd go for Neves. There's no one who can do all the things Pogba does on a good day but a deep lying playmaker who is defensively aware would go a long way to make our attack function against parked defences.

Lucien Agoume is labelled the next Pogba and he's only 17, playing for Sochaux's first team. He's already turned Barca down and we're the latest club linked to him.

Alittle too early for our first team just now, but definitely one to keep an eye on..

If Pogba were to leave I'd take the opportunity to build a midfield with high work rate and quality, something we lack with Pogba in the midfield. I'd be looking at players like Ndombele, Neves, Barella and Bruno Fernandes. Depending on which two of those you start off with, you could look at having a Fekir or Felix in there for a but if extra magic if the other two don't bring goals and assists to the table.

I've mentioned it before, if Madrid come calling get Kroos the other way, if the deal is right, and make a cheeky lunge for Kante if that clown is still in charge at Chelsea

I like the idea. Or even a 442, with Martial, Rashford, Lukaku and Sanchez rotating as our strikers. That would mean that we have to sign 2 wingers, for example: Pepe and Sancho. But I still prefer the 4231 that you suggested, someone like Dybala, Eriksen, Griezmann, Reus, James, etc behind the striker could be better. Also, Lingard is better as a CAM in my opinion.

United fans are going to be shocked how easily replaceable this player is.

Pogba is very overrated. A flashy player almost carrying a strikers mindset for a midfielder.

Think we went for him because we were hurt that he left us. There is a part of me who wants to see Pogba's so called ability to shine one day with the right players covering up his weaknesses & helping his strengths - but if that doesn't happen - as you said I highly doubt he will be hard to replace.

I think the world record price has gotten to his head a bit.

Yeah because Pogba is so lucky to play with such world class players like Matic, Herrera, and Lingard covering up his weaknesses.

Wanyama maybe. He's big, powerful and has nice pace. He hasn't been as good for Tottenham as he was in Southampton, but it's worth a try.

I'd be happy with a midfielder that can give us consistently decent performances as a central midfielder. Frankly we don't have one. Herrera probably comes closest and we could use another.

Just because Pogba is black doesn't mean he's only about being "big, powerful and has nice pace". There's a lot more to Pogba's game that Wanyama won't match.
