Potential Pogba replacements

I do miss some of the expansive passing we used to experience during the carrick-Scholes era. Neves would be perfect for that.

Pogba is as good as anyone at those long passes. Fred has got that in his locker too.

Reason we don't see it as often as we used to is because all of our players play within the 18 yard. We don't stretch teams, hence why we fail to break teams down.

Play a CAM in the Pogba position. Use that money to get some proper wide players.

You don't need a like for like replacement.

Sack Mou and see how he behaves and plays for half a year. If not excellente, sell.

Then Kroos/Eriksen and get some directness into the team.

What if it turns out that jose is a great manager but it's our player that fails or doesn't follow instruction?

Yes the buck still stops with the manager, but if it's the later we'll be in some deep water regardless of who our next manager would be. Mourinho at the end of the day should shoulder the blame as half of the squad is his purchase. But a new manager won't suddenly make all our problems go away

Barcelona would need to send Arthur our way as part of any deal for a start.

you know if someone meets lots of people and thinks they are dickheads sooner or later the person needs to consider are they the one who is a dickhead

you could argue that only Luke Shaw has performed at an acceptable level this season. When none of the players are playing at their level and the team is lesser than the sum of the parts then the blame lays mainly at Jose's door

in terms of replacements I think we'd be better planning for Matic's replacement

we really need a player like Carrick to dictate the play, set the tempo and pass

Only replacement I'd take would be a pair of two top class players that work well together. Mahrez and Vardy together would have been nice...

I would take Modric to give us some much needed calmness and composure centrally and probably someone like Fekir to give us some much needed spark and connection between midfield and attack. Neither our attack and midfield are on the same wavelength. No balance and a total lack of a seamless transition.

Its been said many times on here ,and I gather other places too, but the players we've got play like they've only seen eachother a hour prior to kickoff.
There's very little connection between any of them on the field.

Modric is quality but again it's a very short term fix, he's 34 next season.

Wow,I thought he'd just turned 31.Well,that's a shame. Would've been the perfect player even if he only gave us 2 seasons.
Wonder if he'll leave Madrid in the summer. Modric was strongly linked to Inter.

@kouroux can you imagine Mourinho trying to throw Fékir and Rabiot under the bus?

Very much attainable. Rabiot is not renewing, Fekir should be available for 60-70m and Eriksen is in last year of his contract .
And they might be an improvement not just a replacement as well. I'm not saying they're better than Pogba, they are better than the Pogba we've seen so far.

Not one midfielder comes close in terms of longevity and ability. Its crazy how Jose has now brainwashed fans into blaming Pogba. He signed Pogba to be the core of this team and against Palace he had to be the new guy to blame. He has a few bad touches as did everyone. But the fact is everyone around him is static. He is our highest chance creator and is the only player who can create anything. If you watch a United game before Palace you'd see how he does Matic's role of linking play, then drives forward and tries to create a chance. How he moves to the wing takes a player on and crosses it while Martial is taking forever to be direct. He is the main man and the fact people think we should consider a replacement shows how far we've fallen. Players like Young, Valencia, Matic, Mata, Smalling, Lukaku start for this club yet we should be looking to get rid of a world cup winner who hasnt peaked yet. Nice joke.

Players who could perform as well or better than Pogba in our midfield: -

Fred
Perreira
Herrera
Fellaini
McTominay
Mata
Lingard
Matic (OK, not sure about this one, but he played well last time out).

I think they would all be available as well.

this is a bit silly and sensationalist

Pogba has had his issues and you could question his desire in some games

he's clearly been our best midfielder this season and one of the few to have courage to try things and be ambitious

this Pogba/Mourinho situation reminds me of Hazard/Mourinho a few years ago

Where does this nonsense about Pogba being our best midfielder this season come from? He's been consistently woeful and is obviously no longer interested in playing for us.

If, by way of a response, you're going to point to the Red Cafe match ratings, to be honest I don't pay much attention to them. I'm sure that they are not a great reflection on actual performances, and the scores reflect people's preferences for players in general (e.g. Matic played very well against Arsenal, but still got a score of less than 6 because he isn't greatly liked). There is a degree of sympathy for Pogba which comes from the antipathy towards Mourinho (which I share by the way), which means he scores better than he deserves (or maybe we're just too embarrassed to admit our big money signing has been a flop).

The parallel with Hazard is misleading: he had already proved himself at Chelsea, so at least had a bit of credit in the bank. Pogba definitely hasn't proved himself at United, and his indifference has earned him absolutely no credit.

I should probably have added all the U18 midfielders to my list as well. If it's "a bit silly and sensationalist" to suggest that people who actually want to play for the club, and are willing to fit into the tactical scheme set out by the manager, are likely to perform better than self indulgent prima donnas who would rather be elsewhere, then I'm pleased to be both.

My picks would be players with potential and without needing to break the bank. They wont be cheap though:
- Houssem Aouar
- Giovani Lo Celso
- Max Eggestein
- Amadou Haidara

Well there's our eyes that are not clouded by Mourinho's words and the recent 2 matches. There's also whoscored if you're into that.

When the season started who were our 2 best players (apart from de Gea)? Pogba and Shaw. Then Shaw faded (not in a bad way), and Pogba was our lone standout. Then Martial started performing well alongside Pogba. This is what I saw. You can point to other players that have stood out more, but I think you'd struggle to name them. Only Lindelof recently entered the discussion.

I've based it on watching his performances

I agree there are issues with motivation but there's no denying the quality he's shown in many matches

he's our third top scorer, joint top for assists, third for key passes for game and our top rated player on who scored

ignore this though, seems like you've your agenda well formed there with your nonsensical post

Fire Jose then bring in Pocchettino along with Eriksen but keep Pogba, I think a midfield with Eriksen and Pogba is potentially unreal and would allow Matic IF he must player to simply be a shield in front of the back four.
