thought Bruno was difference class and Casemeiro. Fred was great in the opposition half especially when they are camped in their box. Best performance by a country mile. Need some consistency though as we have been prone to the odd great performance in the past. Casemeiro is making a massive difference. With Martial it would be even smoother.

Goes to show the importance of getting that goal. We were fine against Newcastle and just missed that cutting edge. Much better last night but still missed that cutting edge.

I though Sancho was a disgrace and Rashford can’t finish his dinner. Rashford on the left, Antony on the right and a proper striker and we would be much better placed to get that early goal and “kill” teams as ETH puts it.
Bit extreme.

Delighted with result, however frustrating we aren't 6 points from top spot rather than 8. Still worry about us facing teams at home sitting in the low block though
If we stick with this team or Martial back in and Rashford to the left I am not as worried about the low block. Think they will show more patience, that has been our downfall, just taking random shots and you would hope no hoofing the ball to Ronaldo.

Such an absolute joy that match was. I am going to go home today and watch the entire game, not just the highlights. The entire game was litted with "high" points. Really hoping we capitalize on our form and get those goals that we truly deserve. Chelsea have failed to deceive and been lucky to get the results under Potter but that makes them more threatening. Bridge has always been a dicey venue for us and looking forward to another win.

I know, which was kind of my point aswell regarding Spurs’ number. I do feel though, that xG system is missing individual evaluation of the effort. For example Antony’s shot clipping the post, and also Casemiro’s shot blazing past the post were quite close, but it would hardly be noticeable on the xG number. So as always, xG can give and idea of how a game was, but football is best watched with your eyes.
Absolutely. Xg, and stats in general, may be used to modify your own perception of what has taken place but you have to watch the game. It does not register how close we actually were to scoring , which is also important.

Loving the comradery and togetherness amongst our squad minus Sulknaldo. Absolutely everyone is fighting for the club and a place in the starting XI. Such a crucial run of games coming up before the World Cup break. If we are 2nd or 3rd and close to the top spot by the break, we should really try and get few signings early in January and go all out in 2nd half. A striker and a back up RB is the priority in Jan but I would still like to see AWB get few games under ETH

I think it's more a question of them no longer being asked to deliver things that are beyond their abilities. Fred is a much better player when he can roam forward and freely press high, which Casemiro's level of defensive control allows him a leeway to do in a way that is simply not there with McTominay in Casemiro's role. I think we must now consider McTominay to have been supplanted by Casemiro in the no 6 role, and that if he starts, it will be with Eriksen or Casemiro rather than Fred. He too has much bigger scope for focusing on what he does well, which is more the battling box-to-box role. Eriksen too, while not a defensive midfielder, does the basics so much better than Fred or McT that he effectively provides a safe anchor for either of them.

Totally agree. Casemiro just shows what a specialist in that role looks like. I’ve actually been really pleasantly surprised at how much he joins the attack as well. He manages to do so without being caught out of position. Just picks his moments really well.

Why on Earth would you want that

Usually after we win I watch our goals back over and over. That isn't the case this time, mainly because I'm just gassed by the overall performance for once. It was so good and so complete from start to finish.

The aggression was there all game, we pressed as a team and fought for every single ball (and won it most of the time too). I genuinely forgot Son was even playing and Kane barely got a sniff too. Martinez absolutely shut the man down.

We were even outrunning and out-fighting the Spurs subs who came on and would surely have more energy. It was just superb all round.

God that was good. Still buzzing this morning. As complete a team performance as we’ve seen in years.

More of the same on Saturday please Erik.

Great stuff last night. Proper United football, great to watch us play attacking entertaining football again. But it all starts from defence and the way we were always pressing forwards on the front foot from defence is very pleasing to see. Positionally there’s still room for improvement and we’re crying out for a proper no. 9. However the influence of EtH is already clearly there to see and the squad in general looks far happier under his guidance. Special mention to Martinez, who imo has been our best signing in a very long time. He always defends on the front foot with charisma & intensity. Varane has also become the leader of this team, his coaching is having such a positive influence on the team. Casemiro also showing why he has all those CL wins behind his name, he reads the game so well and gets in the positions to sniff out any threats. It’s from these defensive basics which allow the more attacking players, like Fred, Fernandes, Antony to become dangerous.
And yet, the most encouraging thing is that there’s still lots of room for improvement. We’ll be a much better side in the 2nd half of the season if we keep this development up. And next season, with further investments in the squad such as a no. 9, we really could be serious challengers for the biggest prizes like the EPL & CL.

Would love to see whether he can be redeemed the way Dalot and Fred have, to a certain extent, under ETH.
Not sure we can say Fred is redeemed, he’s played 1 good game
The only way I could see him being safe is if we’re winning by a couple goals but even then I’d rather the minutes went to garnacho or someone like that

Why does Fred have to redeem himself…he has been one of our most committed, hard working, team players for years now. No fuss, does the job he is asked to do. Is better more often then he is rubbish…he has a few errors in him every game but the guys deserves his place in the squad on merit which is more than you can say for a lot of our players.

If I never see that ref at OT again, I wont shed a tear. He was diabolical. Great performance especially from those players who have continuously been written off here - Shaw, Fred, Rashford and Bruno. No doubt about it, we are a better team without Ronaldo - Bruno is a better player without him. Toney (?) up front, Rashford and Antony coming in from the wings, we will look positively stellar

Negatives: Sancho didn’t do much and Ronaldo is becoming more and more of a joke.

Positives: Every. Single. Thing. Else.

De Gea played proactively and distributed well, and even though the Kane shot was offside, if he had not saved it, we wouldn’t have been able to counter and score as the game would just have restarted with a free kick. Feel a bit bad about giving him “only” a 7!

The defence were magnificent, both on and off the ball. I lost count of the amount of times all 4 of them got right into a Tottenham player and nicked the ball straight back to enable us to attack again. Shaw and Dalot are clearly our best full back partnership, so much energy and quality when both are on top form. I don’t need to say much about Martinez and Varane - they are incredible and far, far better than Maguire and Lindelof. In fact, they’re far better than most starting defenders in the league. Fred and Casemiro protected them excellently too - the former brings an invaluable amount of energy and the latter brings 35 time Champions League winning quality and composure, and a bit of the on field twattery that every winning team needs.

In attack, we might have scored 8 tonight. Bruno lost the ball a bit too much in the first half, but on the whole, he was very good - intelligent dummies, accurate through balls and an absolute pearler of a goal. That’s the Bruno we know and love. The Bruno from 2020-21. Antony is so direct and has brought an excitement factor back to OT, and Rashford has been top drawer at everything this season aside from finishing.

All in all, outstanding performance. Ten Hag’s vision is slowly starting to really take shape.

An outstanding performance, which even the most bitter ABU would acknowledge. Job brilliantly done, to put it mildly.

Everyone agrees we need a striker.

Surely most would agree Kane is not going to pick up a major trophy with Spurs and that Kane knows this.

Should we even think about bringing in Kane next summer?

What? The ref was great, the best we've had all season.

Maybe the best I have seen from United this season. Ronaldo should be out of the squad against Chelsea - what an immature child.
This season? I'd go as far as to say it's the best I've seen us play in the last decade. Battered them from start to finish.

My favourite performance of the season thus far.

A proper TEAM performance. Big win. Credit to ten Hag.

Thing is with Shaw, he reacts in the right way to being dropped. He shouldn't put himself in a position to be dropped, but he always seems to show the right attitude to get his place back. Ronaldo reacts in the wrong way. You do not have a god given right to be in this team. They play better without him. If Ronaldo has not recovered from having a pre-season it is his own bloody fault.
Yes I've always quietly backed Shaw for that very reason. Frustrating but understandable since the majority of us are like that in life, too.

I came dancing into work this morning.

That's how good it felt last night watching us play.

More of this, please.

Because he is not better more often and his “errors” are passing, shooting, pass selection which are major errors
Squad player ok 1st 11 no

the argument that he has been better than the rest isn’t good enough if we are to improve

Think that’s harsh on the lad to be fair. Our high press worked because of him last night…that balance and the energy he and Bruno brought to keep the front players honest and working throughout.

He is loose with the ball at least 3 or 4 times a game - accepted.

He can have complete stinkers - accepted.

but when you look at the energy that other top sides put in to games, Fred is one of the few that fit that mould. He is a necessary squad player…some games he will be vital in that first 11 imo.

Still buzzing from this fecking barnburner of a performance!!
Relentless pressing and intensity from start to finish. Creativity and some flair. Getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

It has been a long time since i really enjoyed our football. Yesterdays performance was solid; we had urgency, quality, and we created a lot. Question is, can we repeat this consistently? Casemiro <3.

Find that a bit of an odd take. He was like prime Pierluigi Collina compared that that cnut Pawson at the weekend.

Garnacho in central midfield? Or "someone like that"? Personally I'm not entirely convinced Mr. Someonelikethat would really represent an upgrade.

DDG. 8 Good distribution and command
Shaw. 9 - very strong in defence n attack.
Martinez - 9
Varane- 9
Dalot- 9

Casemiro- 9 easily
Bruno - 9
Anthony - 8.5
Sancho 7.5
Rashford- 8.5

McT great when he came on too
We shot 77 times, including 25 times on goal, last 3 games, and scored what some may consider a total of 3 'lucky' goals.

Before we get too exastic with the performance, which in all honesty, was generally very enjoyable, I would reflect on the above stat and try to improve.

A team that scores 3.8% of their shots, definitely has some big problems, that need to be solved as fast as possible, if they want to be successful.
Stat right?

Not harsh at all he wouldn’t get in many midfields, but anyway the lad had a good game, I genuinely hope he has more games like yesterday because that is the standard required

This only makes sense if you think all of our missed chances weren’t unlucky.

Well, he gets into Brazil's starting 11 doesn't he.

In my view, he's a good to very good player. But he's the sort that needs a certain setup around him that allows him to play to his strengths. If he's got that, I think he may very well be a viable regular for a top club. If he hasn't got that, he'll be hit and miss, as he has been for most of his time in United.

as much as i love ronaldo and what hes' meant to united since coming here at age 18.....he's gotta go
What if ETH wanted him as a sub, for any reason? He needed to be available till the final whistle. With the money he’s on? We hear so much about example and what a great pro he is. This act, not for the first time, shows him to be completely unprofessional and a selfish child. He should be fined massively and suspended.
