Tottenham Hotspur 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Ref blew up after exactly 5 minutes, despite there being a sub and time wasting in injury time itself... How does that work?

Same principle as in Wanyama committing four yellow card offenses but being booked for only one.

Too many immobile and slow players.

Darmian, Blind, Rooney, Zlatan, Jones, Carrick, - none could keep up with these Spurs team.

Bit of a nothing game for us really.

Once we brought on a bit more quality the game was pretty even. If we would have taken it seriously it could've be a different game.
Yeah basically this. We didn't care about winning this game and probably didn't really even prepare for it in training, given that all eyes are on the EL final. Annoying getting outplayed by Spurs in the first half but they were well up for it and we understandably weren't really

Some of the posters on here make me laugh! That was basically an Exhibition game between a fully motivated Spurs side who haven't played for 9 days and our second string, most of whom were out of position or returning from injuries

Remember, we played these at OT with our first XI and they did not have one single shot on target.

They are a good side, especially at home, but today was always about damage limitation

Rooney's goal increases his chances of featuring in some capacity in the final, probably as a sub.

These players should be ashamed of themselves. Will be very happy to see Rooney and Smalling gone next season with Lingard relegated to cups. Absolutely nothing players at this point. Martial has next season to do it, I will forgive him for this one.
Just annoyed at the performances over the last five games. It's like they all gave up after the Chelsea performance, especially Herrera.
The final will be a very tight affair and after the shite that has been served up by these players the last three months, in my eyes we are the underdogs.
This season performance wise has been disgraceful and shameful. It has been successful though which is a bit fecked up. I expect a whole new outlook from this club next season especially if we get champions league.

Lingard
Rooney
Jones
Smalling

Won't be anywhere near the starting 11 next season unless it's a league cup game, and rightly so after their performances this season.

Lingard - bang average offensive player
Rooney- past it, will do well in china
Jones - never fit, hasn't improved
Smalling - hates defending, looks shaky

Went better than expected. Some players still don't know how to defend set pieces after all these years, a better reason why we really need someone who's good at taking them.

Why were Spurs time wasting so much? Every foul their instinct was to get to the ball and take it away. Refs do nothing about it.

Only if we need some experience to run the ball into the corner flag again. We really don't need him on the pitch if it's looking like its going to go to extra time.

The first 60 minutes were hard to watch, being made Spurs bitch is an unpleasent feeling, Martial then dragged us back into the game and Ander coming on helped us gain a foothold in midfield having playing with only 1 CM for the rest of the game.

Looking back at the league this season. It should be never good enough. Not the performance nor the results, injuries notwithstanding.
You need players to step up and regularly and we don't do it enough. Mourinho has bought a resilience in terms of some structure but without attacking performance to match, it will always fall short for United. All hope is on Europa to have a decent outcome in terms of how we look back on the season.

edit: Spurs have had a good couple of seasons, atleast performance wise. But trophies matter. It will be interesting how they keep their star players over next couple of seasons with wages, stadium expense and the transition. Next season is bound to be lot tougher for them and us. We have to get off the blocks and maintain it.

I thought Jones played pretty well. Rooney, Smalling and Lingard were all passengers.

Agree. I thought Jones played well too. Grew into the match kind of. Don't know what has happened to Smalling though. Used to be good.

:mad:Poor urgency to attack, wth is that, except Martial and Bailly.

Next two games then for Mitchel to debut.

Oh, and Berbatov  still cool n classy.

Credits and congrats to Tottenham Hotspur, for being that good (having more days to rest, with us barely have any is a big fathor mind), :smirk:then again we managed to score one against them.

A fair point. But a lot of today's side are not, will never be, or are no longer of the standard required at this football club.

Rooney, Lingard, Carrick, Jones and Smalling

I dont think they are good enough for United anymore
Carrick was class most of the match. Check out his stats and the passes to forwards towards the end.

I only saw the second half, we looked poor again from what I saw and what I read in the match day thread. The only pluses are that it was a pretty meaningless game for us and that Rooney snuck the last goal at WHL.

As for the Sky/Spurs gaiety over leaving WHL, I don't begrudge them it at all. If we ever leave Old Trafford the wankfest would be unreal. It's a big deal for them and a relatively big change in English football so I can't blame them for marking it with a bit of flag waving and the like.

feck Hotsperm. Hate to see pretenders like them doing better than us. Other than that, who cares, we only have one real game left this season.
They've finished above us for the past 2 seasons.. at what point do we stop calling them pretenders and starting facing reality that they are a better team than us with better players.

Blah blah blah.

Negative tactics, got what we deserved.

Martial showed glimpses, de gea kept score down.

Travelling Fans were awesome and deserve better.

Huge rebuilding needed in the summer

Just put Tales Of The Unexpected on rather than watching the post match sank off. Seems to be an episode feauturing big Phil Scalari

Don't think it is fair to blame the defenders. The midfield was the main problem. The ball just kept on coming towards the defence again and again and again. Any defence will concede in these circumstances.

Midfield is more of a problem than defence.

I agree but if we don't score and it's late in the game, I can see Mourinho throwing him in. He still has goals in him despite how bad he is.

So when is the trophy presentation?

Believe it or not the "we beat United" trophy does not exist. I know, it's shocking. Who knew?

On discovering this fact, the Spurs players, the fans and everyone associated with the club were unsurprisingly devestated,

Meh, team is probably ready for the season to end now, stay injury free, let smalling and jones play some games together in prep for the final.
Rooney poor lingard again the worst player on the pitch, thought Mhiki was invisible.
Rashford looked lively, pleased we put up a bit of a fight

Would definitely keep jones over Smalling. Smalling panics every time the ball gets near him. He also needs 6/7 touches and a few 360 degree turns just to control the fecking ball, its so embarrassing that I wouldn't be impressed if he was in my back garden playing football with the kids.
