PL L FA Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

We badly need to beat Southampton. Going into the Europa League final on the back of 8 games without a win will be less than ideal. We need at least a semblance of momentum.

So much pressure now for that EL final. If we lose it, this season will have been a complete wash.

We shouldn't be scared of a club like Tottenham. But that's the way we play sometimes.

We rested players. The midfield that played today (Tuanzebe, Carrick, Rooney) shouldn't not be afraid you are right. They should be absolutely fecking terrified. Because they are at least a couple of levels below Tottenham at the moment and they were playing them at WHL.

You guys calling the players shit, do you know their minds and focus is no longer in the premier league?

Which happened because they were shit for 10 months and are now out of contention for the top 4?

In the past after we won the premiership, we've lost games and I don't remember SAF calling anyone out.
It' not about calling anyone out .It's about putting on a performance for the fans who pay at the turn styles week in and week out

What the hell?! How did Rooney get 5% of votes for being our MOTM? Do we have KKK fraction within redcafe? If so why is it so big and what will the mods do about it?

3 goals in 4, scored the only goal, worked hard. Can see why he got a couple of votes

When we lost 3-1 to Chelsea back in 2005 at OT, Fergie praised the team lol. Media were saying Fergie will be bemused, mystified by the result.

I am sure there are about 5% Liverpool, City, and Arsenal supporters in the CAF. So I am not saying a MUFC supporter couldn't have voted for Rooney MOM, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of those votes are from supporters of those other teams.

What happened is irrelevant.

Not at all. No one is calling the players shit because of one game. It's the accumulation of a season where we finished 6th, so pull your head out of wherever dark you're keeping it

it's easy to type the team is shit from the comforts of your living room. Our problem was Europa League. It's a very difficult competition for premier league sides because you are only allowed 2 days rest. Champions league is better because it gives room for one more day of rest.

Analyze all the teams ahead of us, #1 had zero European commitments, #2 crashed out of the much preferred champions league quickly and left Europa League quickly, #3 Zero European commitments, you get what am saying now. We went all in for all the competitions and we weren't exactly equipped for it. We could have taken the coward road and get ourselves knock out of some of them early on but we didn't. Crucial games were sandwiched between EL games, it took a toll on us and we lost vital players to injury.

I have no one to compare us to. If likes of Chelsea and Spurs had gotten to semis in EL and still have those prem points on board, then I will accept that we are shit.

Like Mounrinho said, this club is about winning trophies, not fighting for Top 4 and if we can't win on May 24th, then we are not good enough.

Pished off...Don't usually argue with anyone...but we look shit and (In my opinion) Martial looks shit, so fustrating to watch, loses the ball every time, cant pass, etc....yet everyone jumps to his defence, because he's 'young' and 'trendy' 'FIFA 17' shite.

I'm with you, he has done nothing this season out of the ordinary. Good assist today but how long till his next assist? 5 games? 6?

15-16 players of this squad are not good enough. Mourinho is taking us in the right direction. There's a reason half of these lads today don't play in important matches, it's because he doesn't trust that they are good enough. 4 top signings this summer needed.

Two of which were deflected and the other one was from PK. I get the part that he was our only goalscorer and that's why some people on here have raised their hands in favor of him. Though for the whole game today he's done only 2 good things. First was a nice pass at the end of first half, the second was the deflected goal with some admittedly good movement from Wayne and that's seriously it. Indeed he worked hard only to lose the ball almost every single time. It was a terrible sight, all in all a worst showing than his Arsenal game. It's hard to fathom how anyone who watched the game, not solely checked the scoreline, and who wasn't totally plastered, would come up with the conclusion that he has outrun Martial and Bailly in his performance.

Actually it's only 15 people. However we could add those who voted for De Gea. What did the Spaniard do except for saving 2 tame shots from Son. That's 42 more bedsheet fetishists! Mayday mayday!

Again I can understand resting players, but why play a kid in central midfield? Blind can play there, Herrera can play there. Why play Rooney in a role where you know his lack of sharpness will let the team down?

Earlier in the season Mourinho wasn't miss using any players. He played everyone to their strengths, he played to the team's strengths. It was simple and refreshing and, to the surprise of absolutely no one, it worked. Now, for no actual reason, he isn't doing any of these things.

Discussions about whether the players are or aren't good enough are not relevant when the manager does not even utilise them correctly. It's like moaning you need a faster car to win a race, after driving the car you do have into the crash barrier whilst in second gear.

You shouldn't be trusted to buy better players until you prove you know how to use the ones you actually have...otherwise how can you possibly be trusted to know what it is they're lacking? Last year Leicester won the league. This year Arsenal and Liverpool will finish above United. Mourinho HAS better players than these teams.

Martial was pretty good today too so I'm not sure why anyone's getting on his back. He created two chances for himself and created a goal, in a game where the team gave him nearly nothing to feed on. The biggest annoyance from is performance today is that Lingard will still start ahead of him in the final...a player who's just as inconsistent and who's idea of a good game is often less useful to the team than Martial's idea of a bad one.

Also:
Blind's passing from the back - Why do people think he's good at this? Kicking the ball up the pitch to no one does not become a good pass, or even a pass at all, just because he aims it to the empty area of the pitch he kicks it to.
Smalling - Does he get a pay rise every time he wins a throw for the other team?

It's obvious from last night and arsenal that all he's telling the players is he will judge their performances for a place in the EL final starting XI. The result of that has been a number of players not giving a stuff.

Rooney won't start the final, so he's played like he's about to retire. The core players of the final are being managed.

I can only imagine the reaction of those whinging fans saying Jose should take the EPL seriously if we had another core player injury. They would be the first to moan about Jose "risking players" if rashford/herrera/pogba went out and tore an ACL in dead-rubber games.

Joyless result, joyless football, joyless everything really. Our league campaign has been pitiful considering our resources. Martial has been ostricised this year and was arguably our best player. Could have done with him this season but JM decided to send him to Coventry and that carthorse Lingaard gets rewarded with £100k p.w and commands a starting berth. Crazy.

I thought Rooney played well but the bashers on here won't have it. Scored a goal too. Nobody else bar Martial looked like doing that. If all the team had his passion and brain we would be a lot better placed. Just wish his lungs and legs were a that of Lingaard lol :)

No one is going to give it their all and potentially pull a hammy or risk an injury in a tackle with a European final 10 days away. The league is done.. Accept it. Move on.

Didnt expect anything. Dont care. Hope to see more kids in the remaining games.

If we were going to play a youth player in the midfield, we could've given a debut to a proper midfielder. Instead we chose to play Tuanzebe there. Sure he sort of did a man marking job but if you're writing a game off like this, might as well give something to the fans to cheer about. This instead, was 90 mins of watching a Spurs training session.

The initial midfield line up didn't work and with Spurs pace through the centre we got humped in the first half. We then proceeded to shoot ourselves at the start of the second before we introduced a bit of quality and more shape - we finished the game the better team IMHO. Rooney is lucky Aulderweild (sp) was that close for his goal as he looked to have scuffed it towards the corner flag!

Mourinho's always done that in games against tough sides, the 'ol CB in midfield. Pepe in the Classico, hell even the other season against us, when we went on that good run with Fellaini in midfield, he parked Zouma on him.

Jones and Smalling are shocking. Our squad is bang average. Jose needs to play to our strengths, rather then worry about others.

Our strengths were not playing. So how do we manage that without them?

The first half was shocking and it didn't really get interesting until we scored. it's hard to care too much when it's clear we are 100% focused on the Europa League now (whether you agree with the decision or not, it's true). It all just feels like watching shite international friendlies. You'll watch it because it's your team, but hard to be invested.

I do think we need to win before the EL final though. We need seem form of momentum, right now we have zero.

THIS - about a manager who has won everything that is there to win in European club football.

Missed this game, literally only saw a bout 30 seconds before + the goal on MUTV just now. Some nice movement, need to replicate that some more next year. Drop deep, nice wide play, nice movement in the box and getting on the end of good delivery. Absolutely has not been enough of that this season.

Last 2 games I've not cared about losing. The squad is waiting for 24th May.

Even ABU's coming up to me in the bars out here, I tell them its all about 24th now. Keeping players fresh, and avoiding injuries.

I can see us not winning until 24th.

Spurs played like we did in our pomp. We played like an Arsenal team picked by George Graham. OK, it wasn't that bad and we didn't get the tonking I feared but it showed our position in the PL is not a misrepresentation. Jose has a bucket-load of work to do in the summer: we need a big clear-out and almost as big buying spree. There were very few good points at White Hart Lane and yet we should have come away with a point: Rashford's finish was poor at the end and shows to me why he is not ready to lead the line. His one-on-ones are nowhere near that of a world-class finisher. Can you imagine if that had been Ruud bearing down on goal? The only question would be which corner of the net the ball would have finished up in. Their passing was so much crisper than ours - I said goal as soon as the two crosses which they scored from were struck. And let's be truthful, although they are a very good team and play as an XI, they are hardly the greatest in Europe. I no longer expect as to romp to titles but have been disappointed with the number of times we seem to have meekly surrendered. The only real surprise is that we scored at all. Pluses: well, DDG had a good game, Bailly is a top defender and errr, that's it if you ask me. People say it doesn't matter; well it does to me!

I have no problem with doing that as long as it gets us results. But if we end up losing the game, the manager should rightly be criticized for it. For me, Mourinho has a long long way to go before I can warm up to his style of play.

It's obvious from last night and arsenal that all he's telling the players is he will judge their performances for a place in the EL final starting XI. The result of that has been a number of players not giving a stuff.

If this is truly the case, then Jose needs to tell our players that if they don't start performing, they'll be out in the Summer.
I don't mind players with swag and big wages....IF they deliver.
But the likes of Martial, Mata, Miki, Lingard - they aren't doing enough. For an attacker at MUFC to score 5-6 league goals per season is embarrassing - absolute failure.
And as a team, scoring 1 goal per game is also embarrassing, though I assume Jose accepts that (except for Ibra), collectively, our attackers simply can't score more than 1 goal per game. Again, embarrassing.
This then leaves the difficult work to be done by our defence, who have to ensure we don't concede more than 1 goal. Without Rojo and with Dumb and Dumber in the team, this appears to be a very difficult task.

With Rojo and Ibra in the team, we were unbeaten for several months. They got injured and immediately we surrendered. Lost to AFC. Then lost to Spurs. Relied on Fellaini to draw with Celta. Total capitulation. Complete surrender.

If I had my way, all the attackers listed above would be out the door in the Summer.

Are you seriously making a race thing out of this?:lol:

Do you want me to? :D At best it's just an uncanny coincidence, at worst though it's a KKK redcafe subgroup that might have formed around that werewolf role play game...
