Post-match discussion

Sunderland were obviously dog shit, but can't complain with three goals and three points!

Out of interest, why were our fans chanting Diego Forlan's name?
Has he passed away or something?

WTF

We always sing songs about ex players at Old Trafford...

Viva Ronaldo
Ooh Ahh Cantona
David May Superstar
Paul Scholes he scores goals
Who put the ball in the German's net (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer)

etc. etc.

Happy to see us put more nails in Moyes' coffin. But it was a pretty boring game apart from the goals. Not a great performance.

With the exception of David May, all the players mentioned above are MUFC greats.
Forlan was not a great. And by all accounts, his claim to fame is scoring 2 goals against LFC. Do we sing songs about Falcao, who scored 4 league goals or Macheda, who scored a few goals for us?

David May's claim to fame is that he got more medals than Shearer, despite averaging only 8 games per season over 10(!) years with us.

Not all chants are about the players themselves, but about taking the piss out of another player/team. In Diego's case, it's us taking the piss out of the dippers. It's not that hard a concept really.

@sunama Forlan gained a cult following for his goals against Liverpool and Chelsea. Fans still talk about Macheda and he only had one great goal

as long as we win the match, I dont care with our performance. very happy with the result today. thanks for the 3 points! happy sunday!

This will do us the world of good. Big pluses for me was Shaw...who I thought played really well, Romero who is probably one of the best no 2 gk's in the Premier league right now and Rashford finally getting that goal...which he so desperately needed. Yeah we missed chances and were still a bit dithery in the final third......but missing chances is what every team does....and putting three in the back of the net from open play is a huge step in the right direction again.....

That's a yes then. Gotcha.

Wish I'd gone for a username that sets the bar so low that any utterance makes me seem like man united fan no. 1.

We won which is an improvement on recent games, but there was feck all else in there that bodes well for the future.

Like most fans I want to believe we are turning a corner and we will improve from a 4th to 6th place team. Tell me what you saw there spanner which is giving you this optimism?

Lord have mercy. Did you start watching football yesterday or something ?

Could have won by more, but our away from is our strongest trait right now, so not worth critiquing any shortcomings today. If only we could do the same to similar fodder at home.

Very happy Rashford scored to break his duck, hopefully that will mentally free him up to contribute to some huge games coming up. Fellaini did well as captain and Shaw put in an encouraging shift.

Was it just me or was Zlatan trying extra hard to get Rashford a goal. I know Rashford wasn't on for too long but from what I saw almost every move Zlatan made tried to benefit Rashford.

well spotted, yes, I also think Zlatan did exactly that, which is why its great to have him as a paternal figure as well as a quality striker.

And crucial end of game winners against Southampton and Chelsea to help us win the league.

I think Rashford was just getting himself in good positions and zlatan wanted to exploit his pace. He is much more intelligent off the ball than Martial.

Tidy win in the end. Bit lucky with the red card I think but it's debatable I know.

Not convinced we can reach top four given our run in but winning these games (that we should win) is positive I guess.

Same people saying "shite performance" are the same people saying it would be 0-0/1-1

Now I am in no way saying this was some great performance but it's a job done. Definitely a better job than Spurs(0-0), Liverpool (2-2) and Chelsea (0-1) did going there.

Saying it was a shite performance is over the top (if people are saying that).

It was certainly a restrained performance after the red card despite the added goals.

It's not a result that we should be proud of. I'm not going to say we are improving in our final third by scoring 3 goals. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with 3 points but Sunderland has been poor this season and 3 points against a 10 men poor team is one thing for sure we should be getting.

If we lose out on 4th due to GD, we can look back at this match specifically. They were garbage, a man down, and we still couldn't put away the majority of our chances. Happy for the win but this was not anything to write home to mom about against the bottom dwellers of the league.
