Post-match discussion

Good for Mkhi and Rashford to get on the scoresheet, hopefully it will give them a confidence boost. The performance was poor in the first half but once Larsson got sent off we were reasonably dangerous on the counter, Ibra and Pogba orchestrating things nicely.

So is it actually a good thing we have more matches away from home in the run-in?

Probably as easy and good of a performance away from home as you can get. Normally if you perform like this away from home you would be challenging for a title. Unfortunately, our home form has been historically poor (results wise). Jose has a point when he says we would be near top of the table if we got the 2/3 victories we deserved at Old Trafford.

Great to see Luke Shaw back and hopefully he gets to start every match now. He was solid defensively and gave us an extra attacking player on that left flank. Made all the difference today.

Good win but this is the kind of game that we need to score a ton of goals to help our goal difference.

The 'Fellaini-effect'.:) He's the captain and the team scores 3 goals... ;)

Pretty good game. Romero was perfect, you feel secure when he's 'protecting' the goal. Superb back-up goalie. Glad to see that Shaw had a good game today and hope he'll continue this way. Pogba is still very inconsistent and I'm hoping it's because of fatigue and nothing else.

Ibrahimovic had a bad start, but slowly improved. Beautiful goal, had nice combinations, could have had maybe 1 more assist. Nice 'collaboration' with Rashford when he scored. I'm relieved that Rashford could score today, he deserves it. Mkhitaryan looked very serious today. Glad that he scored as well, he needed it.

All in all a good game and top 4 is still alive. Hopefully this game will bring a positive feeling ahead of the Anderlecht game. Hope to see Valencia then.

Thank the stars for the 3rd goal. That made an average performance instead of a poor one. We stuggled against the bottom club down to 10 men for 43 minutes between the 2 goals in the second half. No real pace again. Pedestrian football. Still as a result its a good result and put us within touching distance again. Lets hope Palace do to Arsenal what they did for Chelsea.

Can't really judge a win against a team like Sunderland who are probably the poorest premier league team I've seen this decade. Think we played decent though. Really careless in the second half with decision making and sloppy final balls that could have improved our goal output. Europa league should be the priority for the rest of the season because we won't make top4 through the league, we've just been too wasteful in front of goal.

Great gesture from Lingard, good man.

Big shame Fellaini cost us the game in the end and Mourinho alienated himself even fürher from the fans.
Best thing he did. A nice gesture

No wonder we scored so few goals. We were so shit in final third.
Thankfully found our shooting boots enough for once, but the ease at which we can feck up chances was still there for all to see. The biggest question mark by far over this season and if we do miss out on the Top 4, that is the reason why.

Good to get back to winning ways, got a helping hand with the sending off but once we got the first goal we were comfortable and Sunderland are pretty awful.

Impressed with Romero today. I like the way he finds players with a quick throw out, rather than hanging onto the ball.
Best player for us today, without having to make mega saves, he was professional and looked safe, and as you said his distribution was good.

Fantastic win on paper.

Off paper, Meh.
I knew once they got the red we'd be passive the entire second half and that's what happened. Make no mistake about it Sunderland are complete and utter garbage. If we had a bit more intelligence and composure in our play we would have won 7-0 and without breaking sweat. It might seem petty to moan after a 3-0 win but sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture.

Positives: three points, rested key players (read Shaw) and Rash and Henrik scored so extra confidence.

Negatives: still sloppy and woefully short of ideas going forward, pointless passes, low take ons, horrific finals balls and static-ness.

I'm happy but am under NO illusions that we are a long way from where we need to be.

I'm not going to quote stats as stats can lie. But on the basis of what I saw with my own eyes, that was awful. 3-0 looks great on paper and it'll be forgotten in the future but, we have some serious problems. If that had been Chelsea or any other of the top 6 playing THAT Sunderland, it would have been a cricket score.

So little creativity in the final third and ponderous in the build up.

I'm watching Mkhitaryan and he seems a completely different player to the one who we signed which is much the same story with every player we sign. They come in, look great for a few games then forget how they used to play football.

And it's not Jose, there have been many examples in the period since Fergie, Di Maria under lvg, even Fellaini under Moyes. I used to hate playing him, he looks a shadow of his former self.

We really were. Sloppy as hell. Ibra could've laid easy goals off for Rashford but kept fecking up. Pogba overcooked a ball for Martial too. We were a bit of shambles towards the end, it has to be said.

Still, good win. Glad to see Rashford score, and Shaw doing pretty well.
We won't get that many chances in big games. Feck them. They played like a small time team.

This guy summed it up for me, in the match day thread:

Mate. 3-0 away from home. Cruised the match. Had our best left back perform well and stake his claim to the spot.

Strikers getting on the scoresheet and much needed confidence back.

Its a good result and you cant ask much more away from home.

Cruise control from the off, very easy win without too much energy used before Thursday. Romero looked good as always, he also has great distribution, he starts attacks. Darmian best game in ages. Rojo two or three brainless moments but okay all in all. Bailly, was at fault for the only two real sunderland chances. Shaw, good enough, blind the same. Herrera lost his head after a while but was very good for about 50 minutes. Pogba started purring when sunderland went too attacking. fellaini fine. lingard looked sharp. mkhi not great but a goal. Ibra great for the majority of the game. Rashford hopefully he can kick on from that goal. Martial gutted he didn't score that lob.

If they didn't have Denayer it would have been 5

Jesus, you pick one post out amidst the normal hysteria in a match day thread

You know what I meant. It was a very poor performance
It wasn't though. It wasn't a great performance but a very poor one? Really? I feel like some people won't be happy with Mourinho unless we're battering teams week by week. Do you not like the man or something?

Yes I thought we were very poor

I never mentioned mourinho

A win is all that matters right now. Happy for Rash. Luke was great.
Loved Big Serge today as well.

Straight forward win. Can see why they're going down.

Just wished we'd have put them to the sword, top 3/4 could come down to GD

Brilliant 3 goals, but none is from good teamwork. The first two were individual brilliance, and the third was almost fecked up but Rashford redeemed himself.

To beat Davis Moyes is a special achievement for any club.

Gotta be happy with that win. We've bottled so many games we should have won. Nice to see us get the job done effectively today.

Still lacking that clinical streak in front of goal, but this had better be a step towards us finding our confidence again.
