PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 Stoke City

Post-match discussion

Sun, 02 October 2016

That's nonsense. We just had an inspired Gk against us and we missed a couple of very good chances and hit the bar. These things happen. We were brilliant but their GK was up for it.

Sorry but I'd expect us to be able to beat a team that's bottom of the table, so far they've

lost 4-1 to city and palace

4-0 to Spurs

2-1 to hull

Yeah they're keeper played well but no excuses i'd expect us to score more than 1 against this complete shower. I know it's hard but We are an average team there's no doubt. Out of to title race already and we will struggle for top 4 again

He did nothing wrong and offered us much needed movement.. This has to go to Pogba,Zlatan and DDG.

How Zlatan scored 50 plus is beyond me.
De gea made an mistake how often has he saved us but lingard did nothing! Just because he didn't cost us a goal doesn't mean he should start.
I've seen people write about who would have Rooney, who the hell would have lingard! He gives us nothing

Very disappointing equalizer conceded but these kind of games happen every season.

Important for the team to not let their heads down and lose hope because the performance was pretty good in terms of creating chances. If they can perform like this regularly, you'd expect the wins will start to come.

Unlucky today. Could have been 3-0 up by half time, after that Stoke's confidence grew. Some positives though, as long as the expectations are realistic. Created opportunities to score with good movement and some slick passing. Just couldn't take the chances, that happens. Stoke get a soft goal and Pogba hits the bar in extra time; what can you say other than, "One of those days"?
Mourinho is building a team, he's got some playing staff he maybe would rather not have but he's got to work with what he's got. Let's not start blaming the manager when we can all clearly see an improvement to the last three seasons.

If Pogba, Ibra, Herrera and maybe Mata had had a little more luck then we would be discussing a great performance all around. I'm looking forward to Liverpool, United will play better against sides who attack.

I do think there's a problem with the teams mentality, players seem to lose their composure at key moments.

Bigger issue for me is that we can't play well for a full half, we play well in short periods. That's why we will drop more points this season, even when we play well

Who knows ? Perhaps for the same sort of reason that Mourinho just suddenly decided to let Basti rot in the stands on matchdays and train with the Unders.

Basti I understand. He has no future. He is 32.

Morgan is bloody 26 and would bring some steel to our midfield without sacrificing mobility/passing (i.e. Fellaini).

Need 4 points from our next 2 games.. it is going to be a long season.

Posters here don't even know how to be angry after a game. Clearly a lot of you have agendas against some players. The simple matter is that we lost 2 points because our big signings couldn't score and our best player in recent years gave them a late goal. We dominated the game in every other aspect and had little problems defending.

Agenda? There is no agenda here.
I want us to beat the team, which is at the bottom of the league, at OT. This is not an unreasonable expectation. Even Stoke fans would also expect to lose this game.
Stoke getting a draw today is a disaster, whichever way you look at it.

Beginning to come around to the idea the Mourinho is a busted flush after watching the first 7 games. Not good enough. Frigging Stoke FFS. Said in the Matchday Thread we are fecking useless and a bunch of bottlers. Can't believe that result.

1- When we signed Pogba for the ridiculous fee of 90M i thought he at best only worth half of that. Now I think even 40M is too much for him.
2- Rashford should always start ahead of Zlatan.
3- Our manager doesn't have the balls to drop either of them.
4- I was one of the most defenders of Wayne Rooney in the past 2 seasons, but he keeps disappointing everyone and he should be nowhere near the first team. We should sell him in Jan.
5- Schweinsteiger should come back to the squad, he would be better than Pogba.
6- De Gea is not to blame for the goal, he was already attempting to save the ball the halfway through it deflected, no other keeper in the world would've done better.
7- We would be very lucky if we managed to finish the season 4th.
Worst post of the year

We were terribly unlucky today.
How were we unlucky exactly?
Apart from Lingard save, it wasn't that Grant made impossible saves! I mean, even that was too close to him, but it was due to the distance that one can say it would have been a certain goal.
Zlatan opted for near post, when opening the body and going for far post would have definitely resulted in a goal. Mata's chance was completely out of nowhere and while it was a good save, chances of that going in were slim.
Pogba was hardly hitting a shot on target.

I think we have to start with Martial instead of Lingarrd. Very frustrating that we did not win.

I think we will struggle to get the top four now.

Even when we were a goal up I just knew the defence will feck up somehow. Our defence is just a shambles.

Havent kept a clean sheet since hull I think.

It was fecking hull so that was bare minimum too.

Shambolic shielding from our midfield. Herrera just let that stoke player skip pass him for the shot on goal that led to their goal.

You'd think someone like Schneiderlin would have been better in that situation. Either drop Mata or drop Herrera. We need to keep clean sheets first and foremost. Its the bedrock to a title run.

Our attacking play in patches were good this game then when we found out that we couldn't score, we went to hoofing ball a bit more and zltan was pretty shit on 2nd half for it.

I thought we did well again after martial scored and started playing good on the floor.

We do need to sort out our midfield discipline and defensive duty. We are pretty wide open there. One DM having to cover the whole pitch is not an ideal at all whether it is elbow man or ander or even Keane in his prime.

This is the worry for me. The lack of composure when things get a little tough. On another day Zlatan would have scored and Pogba would have put away one of his chances. We just seem a little bit rash most of the time.

Two things:

1. Anyone comparing today with last season is delusional. We were much, much better than that. Some of the 'almost' goals like Pogba's miss in the 1st half, or Rooney just not getting to the cross after Rashford's outside of the boot pass were wonderful footballing moments. We were almost excellent.

2. Jose can take no stick at all from those dropped points. We were setup perfectly to win that match, but poor finishing from Pogba in particular (that header...) means it doesn't happen. We were awful against Watford, but this was completely different.

So many overreactions here right now. Sure we should have won and really had chances to do it. We were wasteful in front of goal and poor for 10, 15 minutes in 2nd half. But people acting like we're gonna get relegated.
At least we had so many shots, this kind of game we would have lost last season and would have had a 1st shot on goal in 60th minute, if that.
Anyway who really expected a title in Jose's first season given how much work he still has to do with this team.
I think we'll get top 4, no sense in crying that we won't even get that. I still think we can get top 3 even. :D

No one to blame but the forwards today for not taking their chances. If you don't do that you'll always put unnecessary pressure on your back 5.

Generally speaking I'd of brought on Carrick instead of Memphis chasing a winner. He could have helped unlock it.

We are not winning the league this season, but the team is promising. Jose needs to check himself from going knee jerk and put Rooney back in the team again. Martial needs to start.

The consistency will come.

Did anyone else just watch Owen completely contradict the image he was talking about? He still carried on with it too.

Why are people having a go at the wrong players then? There's always an agenda from posters. Always. As soon as something negative happens, regardless what it is, people will shit on a player they dislike.

United were a much better team in this game, created a host of chances and gave Stoke a goal after they hadn't created a single chances since the 10th minute. The team played well, some individuals didn't.

I'm not even mad, we created plenty of chances and on another day we'd have been out of sight. We'll be fine.

Blind's clearance to give them that throw in pissed me the feck off.

We only really started to play well against Leicester once we had scored, if only Zlatan had put that early chance away I reckon it would have a been a very different result. However that is no excuse...just highlights the mentality of the team in general.

We were anything but brilliant. Finishing is a massive part of the game, we couldn't finish for shit. It's not bad luck, it's shit finishing.
When the goalkeeper makes saves it's called brilliant goal keeping. Some of you lot are hypocrites. Ddg makes those saves and he is a brilliant gk. An opponent gk does and our finishing is shite?!

I cant blame mourinho at all for the result. Its not his fault top players like Ibra and Pogba decided to be terrible in front of goal or that their keeper has the best game he will ever have in his like or that De Gea makes the one mistake hell probably make all season.

Sooo frustrating sooo many chances. It was actually a good performance another day thats an easy 4or 5 nil score line
That's how I saw it too. Some games it just seems that whatever team or tactics you have lady luck just wasn't going to smile on us.

Both teams only converted one of their chances. I think if Zlatan buries that first goal in the far post it's a different game altogether. Defense needs to be better as Stoke did have chances and a better team finishes those. Sloppy in possession today. Team is still better off without Rooney and on another day it's 3 or 4 in the back of the net. Depay is useless, such a poor touch. Embarrassing to have him and Rooney on the same pitch together. Need Mkhitaryan back and to be an impact starter or sub.

Just wish we'd stop persisting with Lingard in the starting line up. Yeah he didn't do anything wrong but he's limited. Get someone like Martial or Memphis on and you can have some magic.

Why is it that we are the only team that has inspired GKs against us? Why do only we miss good chances match after match?

The problem is with us, not luck or the other team having a blinder.
This match was a case of brilliant keeping and bad luck. You cannot just generalize it.

We need better protection in midfield. Herrera is doing fine but one man is not enough. I'd prefer a switch to 4-3-3 with Blind Pogba Herrera behind Martial Ibra and Rashford.

We're our own worst enemy at times. We almost end up beating ourselves. Be it mental fragility, avoidable errors or shirking of responsibility.

The fact that we're discussing the same things after most games, regardless of the opponent says as much. All the pieces are there, but things just aren't clicking consistently.

I can't go through another season of false dawns.

One solid, progressive performance followed up by a ponderous, impotent performance. Rinse and repeat.

Please just get it together guys. All I want is some damn consistency.

Right redcafe experts need your help here. We've got rid of LVG, Ro
Should have won but we didn't. Other teams have steam rolled Stoke this season. They are absolutely shit.

Watford and Stoke.. Not good enough. Arsenal get top four because they beat these sides.

Very frustrating.

Oh and I don't care if I'm sitting in my chair. The fans today were terrible. like a library.

Sorry mate but the match day fans were fine today. At the end of the day there's nothing to get excited about. Being there you can see that when the footballs good we are fine. Fact is a lot of match going reds have called time after the last few years for reasons known to them.

We played well today, admittedly against a very poor team.

You have to win these games and we should have been 3-0 up at half-time.

The fact that we were so dominant makes the draw even worse.

Fecking gutted.

A draw against arguably the worst team in the PL currently.

I'm sure it was just "one of those days".
