PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 Stoke City

Post-match discussion

Sun, 02 October 2016

Should have won but we didn't. Other teams have steam rolled Stoke this season. They are absolutely shit.

Watford and Stoke.. Not good enough. Arsenal get top four because they beat these sides.

Very frustrating.

Oh and I don't care if I'm sitting in my chair. The fans today were terrible. like a library.

This is about the 4th very shit team we have made look good. City, Arsenal or Pool would be hammering these twats by atleast 4 goals. We just aren't ruthless at all, yet.

To be fair, wasn't his match today. Couldn't cross at all. The ball that led to the goal was a complete mess. He had plenty of time to settle down and put it back into play. He whacked it, which is not typical, it went out. They scored.
Yea. They threw that ball straight into the net from the throw-in, didn't they?

He didn't have plenty of time to bring the ball down, Shaqiri was close by and he's a very quick player. Shaqiri who btw did feck all today because of our defense.

Regulation 3 points squandered:(
Poor finishing and a brain fart from Blind to put the defence needlessly under pressure.
And I agree with some posters on here about Ibra. He is far too selfish sometimes. Had chances to play in people yet had silly shots from distance.
Oh and Rooney? What was the point? His corners were weak and he didn't do much else.
Very very bad day, feels like a loss to the leagues worst team

Mentally weak team. Only play football once they're winning. Shit themselves if they are in the last ten minutes.

Not winning feck all this season.

I'll agree with the bolded point, but to say we didn't play before we nabbed a goal, are you shitting me? Did you watch the match?

It's a long season. We have to move on to the next game. Big one at that.

When you can't beat Stoke City at home with the form they're in then you don't deserve to challenge for the title, let alone make the top 4.

Pathetic.

So it's his fault that Stoke took a throw in, played out of it, nutmegged Herrera, took a shot that deflected off Smalling and that De Gea fluffed enough for them to get the rebound and hit the cross bar leaving Allen alone to put it in the net after Valencia needlessly went out of position.

Ok then..
Lots of fault to go around, but if he does the right thing we don't concede. To be fair, incredibly rare he does that. Smalling is the worst culprit of unnecessary corner/throw in giving. Then again, knowing Smalling's passing ability, he's probably looking for a teammate ;)

Lots of hate for Rooney in here, he wasn't the one that missed the chances.

For a guy that didn't play the full 90 a lot of people are focusing their attention on him.

We created a ton of chances today and didn't take them, that is what cost us the 3 points.
Some people just can't help themselves. It's his fault the rest of the team was crap as well.

Mentally weak and our midfield still needs fixing, just like last year isn't it?

They just don't take games like this seriously. This should have been 3 down the bag. Who knows what this might mean in the end - probably the difference between playing in the CL or not.

Mourinho need to start working on the urgency RIGHT NOW. We don't have any more time to wait! Just look at Pep, he's up at 5 in the morning every day working his ass off constantly to get the team WIN. I'm done.
Mourinho is reported having very little sleep. Can see with eye bag.

Pogba and Ibrahimovic were too wasteful in the game. Good game can't really fault a lot. Lady luck wasn't with us.

That's nonsense. We just had an inspired Gk against us and we missed a couple of very good chances and hit the bar. These things happen. We were brilliant but their GK was up for it.
Why is it that we are the only team that has inspired GKs against us? Why do only we miss good chances match after match?

The problem is with us, not luck or the other team having a blinder.

Played well, but unfortunately we were not clinical enough and their keeper had perhaps one of his game of his life. In regards to our goal, De Gea should have done better and I feel the blame should be placed mostly on him.

If we took our chances, it was a very good performance. Unfortunately we didn't so a very disappointing result.
Some of the marks in the players rating are odd. We created loads of chances, the reason we didn't win was terrible finishing. Those players deserve low marks. Ibra had his moments but was wasteful, Pogba was terrible, Rashford did not perform well. The DDG should have done better for their goal. The rest did well. I will never understand any reason to bring Wayne on.

People need to calm down. We dominated that game and we're creating chances but second half we downed tools which was annoying.. The teams overall fitness and mentality is poor at the moment. We start well but we start losing momentum and don't know how to keep the foot to the pedal all game which is not surprising when our so called leaders are Zlatan and Pogba who are not really speed merchants in the way they play. The lack of speed in our key players means that once these two or Mata slow down a touch then the opposition gets into the game and we have periods where we look really ponderous in terms of pressure on the ball.

I think long term against smaller teams we will need Mkhitaryan at 10 and play Rash and Martial on the wings.

Pogba needs patience. It was a wretched performance for him but he needs time to get his game altogether. These are key learning moments for the team. It is character building. At least we looked the better team .. Under LVG and in games where Rooney was starting we looked the inferior team.

I didn't think the match was as bad as people are complaining. It was some nice football, just didn't finish the chances and let Stoke hang around and Allen got a ball to fall to him off the crossbar. Ibra could have had a hat trick while Lingard and Pogba were just unlucky on their chances. Objectively, people wouldn't be complaining about the player performances, its just stemming from frustration at a poor result as the team played well overall.

Miffed that Rooney comes on for Mata though. Mata was one of our best players on the pitch and Rooney doesn't offer anything. But at least he's not starting, now he just needs to stop being an automatic substitution for no reason.

Another record for mourinho. Stoke never obtain a point from Utd for how many years?
At least we didn't go the Moyes and LVG route and lose to them for the first time in a 100 years

This never happens if he plays it correctly. It's pro football, not Sunday league. Not in the 81st minute.

Posters here don't even know how to be angry after a game. Clearly a lot of you have agendas against some players. The simple matter is that we lost 2 points because our big signings couldn't score and our best player in recent years gave them a late goal. We dominated the game in every other aspect and had little problems defending.

I'll agree with the bolded point, but to say we didn't play before we nabbed a goal, are you shitting me? Did you watch the match?
Watched the whole thing (from 20 minutes on at least).

We looked decent in the first half but Stoke were just as good, the game could have gone either way - and Stoke were by FAR the better team at the start of the second half, until we scored and suddenly looked brilliant.

Same deal against Leicester, we were shite right up until we scored and then suddenly some world class football came out.

How can you think we were playing well based on that first half? Stoke are not a particularly good side and we looked poor against them.

If anybody (myself included) had delusions of challenging for the title, those should surely be put to rest. Top 3 or 4 is the goal. Even that will not be easy.

Nobody willing to take responsibility in this side. All looking to one another.

Can't legislate for De Gea's mistake. But wouldn't have been a problem had we taken our chances.

Mentally we're all over the place.

Struggling at home, again. As much as the crowd need something to work with, their passiveness (emphasised by Stoke's away support) didn't do us any favours. Players received zero support.

Just an annoying game. Should have won easily at 3 or 4 nil. Pogba and Ibra missed too many chances and it was a piss poor effort from De Gea which led to their goal.

I
Why on earth is Morgan Schneiderlin not playing. He is the perfect type of defensive midfielder that Mourinho plays.

Who knows ? Perhaps for the same sort of reason that Mourinho just suddenly decided to let Basti rot in the stands on matchdays and train with the Unders.

This exactly. We are upper mid table right now at best. It is what it is. Every player, coach, and the manager are 'contributing' to that.

The ball went out of bounds, the team got reorganized in defense. Nothing about that goal was on Blind. De Gea messed up a simple save completely. The other keeper had been pulling off better saves the whole match.

Zlatan's shit finish in the fist minute set the tone for one of the most frustrating games I can remember watching.

Can't legislate for that De Gea mistake, what the feck was he doing?

Terrible result and any slight hope of a title challenge is over for me. It's another season of scrambling for top 4.

Title challenge will be back on the redcafe as soon as City slips today !!! . Simple as that

Have a word with yourself. We lost two vital points fighting for CL places. This is clearly not acceptable under any circumstances.

...and I forgot to add that had Herrera been sent off (that was lucky), then Stoke could've beaten us.
One thing is for sure, at the return fixture, Stoke will definitely fancy their chances to get all 3 points.

We lost them because our 3 best players messed up. Not because of Mourinho tactics, not because a ball went out for a throw in, not because Rooney came on or because Lingard started.

We didn't though really, did we? We were ponderous again. No tempo, gave Stoke little to think about, barring a couple of pieces of individual play.

The players are clearly capable. They look a different prospect once they've scored. But they need to find a way of tapping into that same ruthless 'no hold bars' attitude when we need to score.
