Manchester United 1:1 Stoke City

Post-match discussion

Sun, 02 October 2016

One of those days. Could have scored 5, their keeper has a great game and ours fumbles one he'd deal with 9/10.

Very good game from us, extremely unlucky with the result.I thought these kind of games won't happen under Mourinho.

IIbra casual approach is getting on my nerves a little.

I cant blame mourinho at all for the result. Its not his fault top players like Ibra and Pogba decided to be terrible in front of goal or that their keeper has the best game he will ever have in his like or that De Gea makes the one mistake hell probably make all season.

Sooo frustrating sooo many chances. It was actually a good performance another day thats an easy 4or 5 nil score line

Horrible result , we can talk about bad luck hitting the crossbar , missed chances etc etc but I think reality is starting to sink in that we are at best challenging for the final top 4 spot and are nowhere near a title challenging side.

They just don't take games like this seriously. This should have been 3 down the bag. Who knows what this might mean in the end - probably the difference between playing in the CL or not.

Mourinho need to start working on the urgency RIGHT NOW. We don't have any more time to wait! Just look at Pep, he's up at 5 in the morning every day working his ass off constantly to get the team WIN. I'm done.

Absolutely terrible. Ibrahimovic needs to take a long hard look at himself after saying he isn't happy with how much the team is creating while he wastes chances left, right and center

Ibra was shooting - did you not see?
Their GK put in a MOTM performance.
Though I do agree, that Ibra should be better.

Pogba, for me, is a huge disappointment. He is the most expensive player in the World, and for me, Herrera looks to be our best midfielder at this time.

If there is one player who is entitled to make a mistake it's De Gea.

Game should have been wrapped up long before.

Started the second half too slowly and we were wasteful throughout. However I do think we are getting better.

I'm just accepting we're an average team now because lets be honest we are.

Title winners? Not a chance city, Arsenal, Liverpool would've smashed them today
That's nonsense. We just had an inspired Gk against us and we missed a couple of very good chances and hit the bar. These things happen. We were brilliant but their GK was up for it.

have had an incredibly kind fixture list and managed to end a title challenge before it began. absolutely dreadful, not neccesarily today, but going into october international break is a good time to take stock. its been appalling. there is no consistency to anything we do.

a note on pogba. spending that money on a player, like ronaldo, bale...should mean a significant advantage is gained when playing relegation fodder at home. hes been absolutely bossed by glenn whelan and joe allen today. and watford previously.

Zlatan's shit finish in the fist minute set the tone for one of the most frustrating games I can remember watching.

Can't legislate for that De Gea mistake, what the feck was he doing?

Terrible result and any slight hope of a title challenge is over for me. It's another season of scrambling for top 4.

That first chance that ibra wasted was criminal for a striker.he should be fined for that.

We shouldn't be but we are. There just seems to be a cloud of doom over the team that just won't shift.

2 points dropped, but the truth is that we battered them and any other day could have been 5 or 6.

It should be Morgan Schneiderlin and Herrera in midfield with Pogba behind Ibra.

We are still so soft down the centre of our midfield. Herrera absolutely let the stoke player waltz past him for that shot that led to the equaliser.

Why on earth is Morgan Schneiderlin not playing. He is the perfect type of defensive midfielder that Mourinho plays.

2 points dropped against a struggling team at home. Still early in the season but this was an ideal chance to secure 3 points in a hectic month. Just not good enough.

What the hell did Blind do?
To be fair, wasn't his match today. Couldn't cross at all. The ball that led to the goal was a complete mess. He had plenty of time to settle down and put it back into play. He whacked it, which is not typical, it went out. They scored.

Rooney being subbed on (despite another comical assist) was diabolical. Shocking passing, corners, free-kicks, the lot (who the hell let him back on taking those?!).

Mourinho won't last long at this rate.

You can always concede a lucky goal but only scoring 1 against fecking Stoke at home is a mix of shite management and team performance.

What has Jose got to do with the players missing those easy chances?

Poor finidhing cost us, so many chances created just to be wasted.

Also, can't we just keep the pressure on after scoring a goal, why do we just relax after we score.

He had all the time in the world to bring down the ball that led to their goal, instead he sliced it out for a throw, which they scored from.

More on big Dave though, that shot, though deflected, needed to be caught.
So it's his fault that Stoke took a throw in, played out of it, nutmegged Herrera, took a shot that deflected off Smalling and that De Gea fluffed enough for them to get the rebound and hit the cross bar leaving Allen alone to put it in the net after Valencia needlessly went out of position.

Ok then..

Oh, I agree with this 100%.
MCFC spent big and they are getting results.
We spent big and we are struggling against the team at the bottom of the league. I'm genuinely in shock.

With Liverpool and Chelsea away next the title is over. I highly doubt we'll get 6 points from those games. De Gae what a terrible mistake from him. The rest of the team played well but in the end there wasnt enough to get the second. Pathetic and dissapointing. Pogba was really fustrating. Seems to be missing good chances. Not what you want from a 90m pound player. Ibrahimovich could have had a hatrick.

1- When we signed Pogba for the ridiculous fee of 90M i thought he at best only worth half of that. Now I think even 40M is too much for him.
2- Rashford should always start ahead of Zlatan.
3- Our manager doesn't have the balls to drop either of them.
4- I was one of the most defenders of Wayne Rooney in the past 2 seasons, but he keeps disappointing everyone and he should be nowhere near the first team. We should sell him in Jan.
5- Schweinsteiger should come back to the squad, he would be better than Pogba.
6- De Gea is not to blame for the goal, he was already attempting to save the ball the halfway through it deflected, no other keeper in the world would've done better.
7- We would be very lucky if we managed to finish the season 4th.

That's nonsense. We just had an inspired Gk against us and we missed a couple of very good chances and hit the bar. These things happen. We were brilliant but their GK was up for it.

We were anything but brilliant. Finishing is a massive part of the game, we couldn't finish for shit. It's not bad luck, it's shit finishing.

Failure to beat rock bottom Stoke is a huge problem. I dunno if a lot of these players are up for it. We should have signed a proper striker in the summer instead of marquee signings like 53 year old Ibrahimovic.

Is this some kind of voodoo? That keeper was like super human while DDG was shite ironically.

Refreshing to see us drop points completely undeservedly after having several clear cut chances whereby 99 games out of 100 we walk away with a 5-1 or 4-2 win looking forward to the next game after another good performance.

It's easy to complain but we did enough today to win two games and you know Pogba and Ibra aren't going to miss 3-4 sitters every game.

Damaging defeat but once everything settles down we'll remember this as a performance of old where we dominate and inexplicably don't win.

City will walk the league, Liverpool will be just behind them and the rest will be in the dog fight below. We are not very good at all.

I had a bad feeling we had wasted the game after not scoring during the first half. Look like I was unfortunately correct.

Very disappointing. Can't stress that enough. A must win game with the upcoming fixtures. Threw it away by not being ruthless enough. Obviously a rare feck up by De Gea is very disappointing too.

Don't know how many chances we need to score but when you miss as many as we did then you can expect to be sucker punched.

Rubbish result, it showed that despite some of the nice football we played, there are big holes defensively.

Only positive was that Martial scored a great goal. Hopefully that will set him off.

So wasteful. Our team just can't be trusted yet. Playing well in spurts but when the opportunities are there to build momentum, we keep bottling them.

Let ourselves down today with our finishing. The game should have been put to bed so Stoke had no chance to get back in it.

Don't even want to watch the fecking City game now. If spurs do us a favor, we'll still be 5 fecking points ahead. 7 points and it's already over on October 1

Spurs do us a favor? They are a better team than us ffs. Wake up. They are in the title race, just like they were last year. Best defence in the league right now.

We are woeful without Luke Shaw on our left flank tbh. Blind with an absolutely feck off clearance that led to a loss of possession. The shocking amount of defensive errors towards the end is a joke.
