Post-match discussion

Sorry but I'd expect us to be able to beat a team that's bottom of the table, so far they've

lost 4-1 to city and palace

4-0 to Spurs

2-1 to hull

Yeah they're keeper played well but no excuses i'd expect us to score more than 1 against this complete shower. I know it's hard but We are an average team there's no doubt. Out of to title race already and we will struggle for top 4 again
We created enough chances to absolutely bury them. Their keeper had an awesome game and we hit the post from 5 yard out. I wouldn't call us average based on today's performance.

Extremely frustrating to watch. De Gea cost us 2 points, he should've swallowed that ball up.

Ironically, if it wouldn't have been for shitty Rooney fumbling that ball it never would've fallen to Martial in the first place, so his inept first touch actually did us a favor.

Wonder if Mou is regretting coming to United yet.

Beginning to come around to the idea the Mourinho is a busted flush after watching the first 7 games. Not good enough. Frigging Stoke FFS. Said in the Matchday Thread we are fecking useless and a bunch of bottlers. Can't believe that result.
So what is it then? Mourinho or the players?

Refreshing to see us drop points completely undeservedly after having several clear cut chances whereby 99 games out of 100 we walk away with a 5-1 or 4-2 win looking forward to the next game after another good performance.

It's easy to complain but we did enough today to win two games and you know Pogba and Ibra aren't going to miss 3-4 sitters every game.

Damaging defeat but once everything settles down we'll remember this as a performance of old where we dominate and inexplicably don't win.
We lost??????:(:(:(:confused::confused::confused:

Ibra's finishing was a big let down. He's usually very on point with those six-yard-box-finishes. Sadly, Grant played very well in the goal.

One of those days. Should have been out of sight by half time, let them creep in second half and still we created enough to win the game.

Pogba was dreadful, Juventus must be pissing themselves.

You know it's a bad day in the office when your 3 best players (on paper and by reputation at least) are the culprits who let the team down.

We lost them because our 3 best players messed up. Not because of Mourinho tactics, not because a ball went out for a throw in, not because Rooney came on or because Lingard started.

Excuses excuses.

Mou should have switched something up if it wasnt working. Instead we keep floating balls into the box when there were so many stoke players there. And need i mention high balls which se lost possession for what we could have done keeping it with quick ground passing near to the end of the game? Taking Mata off backfired as well. He was our best creative player.

Piss poor complacent mentality cost us all 3 points today. Jose needs to give them a rocket for that, switched off after the goal and thought the job was done.

We need the goal scorers to stand up and be counted. Zlatan for how well he held up the ball today and created chances for himself, should really try harder. That wasn't good enough. Same for Pogba.

I miss the days when we used to score from most of clearcut shots we had in a game

Second match in a row a shitty touch from him created a goal. Go figure.

Sorry mate but the match day fans were fine today. At the end of the day there's nothing to get excited about. Being there you can see that when the footballs good we are fine. Fact is a lot of match going reds have called time after the last few years for reasons known to them.

This is a problem. Yes, supporters need something to work with. But they have to find something from somewhere to lift the players. It was properly abject today.

Basti I understand. He has no future. He is 32.

Morgan is bloody 26 and would bring some steel to our midfield without sacrificing mobility/passing (i.e. Fellaini).

I think he wants to leave anyway, he's a guy who likes to play every game and he's obviously not going to do that at Utd. He was supposed to be off in the summer but Mourinho blocked it saying he still needed him. Obviously not unless playing in the League Cup is what he meant. Well according to the press anyway.

Zlatan is playing too much. He has been wasting great chances.

There was too chances where he was too relaxed, the one at the beginning and another later on in the game. He failed to put any real power behind them, for the first he should have used his right foot and gone across the keeper. It's the one chance I lament most today

De gea made an mistake how often has he saved us but lingard did nothing! Just because he didn't cost us a goal doesn't mean he should start.
I've seen people write about who would have Rooney, who the hell would have lingard! He gives us nothing
I never said ddg should be taken out..
But this Lingard thing I don't understand.
I thought he played well and offered us pace and penetration. Should have scored but somehow that Kobe lookalike got his paws to it.

Pogba and Zlatan should have burried this game after 15 min.. I personally would have taken Zlatan out before Lingard.

Unlucky today. Could have been 3-0 up by half time, after that Stoke's confidence grew. Some positives though, as long as the expectations are realistic. Created opportunities to score with good movement and some slick passing. Just couldn't take the chances, that happens. Stoke get a soft goal and Pogba hits the bar in extra time; what can you say other than, "One of those days"?
Mourinho is building a team, he's got some playing staff he maybe would rather not have but he's got to work with what he's got. Let's not start blaming the manager when we can all clearly see an improvement to the last three seasons.

If Pogba, Ibra, Herrera and maybe Mata had had a little more luck then we would be discussing a great performance all around. I'm looking forward to Liverpool, United will play better against sides who attack.

At last a post with no irrational emotion in it. My thoughts also.

...and I forgot to add that had Herrera been sent off (that was lucky), then Stoke could've beaten us.
One thing is for sure, at the return fixture, Stoke will definitely fancy their chances to get all 3 points.
He was lucky to be sure, but we have all wailed when it has happened the other way round. We were on the right end of a wrong decision this time. Ander was pretty good. All that money we spent on Pogba, I just hope it turns out right in the end. The lack to finishing today is what cost of. We should have been out of sight.

We really could have done with winning this considering our upcoming fixtures. I didn't feel that we played that badly, and we defended well apart from one mistake which cost us the goal. Had Ibra scored at the start we might have gone on to smash these but their keeper had a good game and it wasn't to be. You can see from posts here that fans are desperate for us to immediately be fantastic, the pressure the players are under is immense. The amount of money spent is irrelevant, building a successful team takes time regardless.

This is Mourinho's first month with a new club, new squad. I expect United to beat bottom of the table teams as well, but I also expect any team, bottom of the premier league or bottom of league 2 to step up and raise the bar against United. Stoke did that today and their recent form should have been extra incentive for them to perform.

United could have been 3-0 at half time, it wasn't a bad performance. The title race has only just begun mate, it's September!

What are you talking about excuses. I'm giving you the reasons for the lost points. Mou should have switched something up? He made 3 changes, one of which was putting an attacker on for a midfielder. Did you watch the game at all?

Very unlucky. Any other day we'd have comfortably won. These things happen in football. It's disappointing but I've seen enough to be encouraged and feel happier about our future.

I know it's a long season but Top 4 is going to be a huge fight this season and that is our aim. Liverpool aren't going to go away this season and are finally beating the poor teams after the Burnley blip. City will win the league and Spurs are better than us. That leaves us to fight with Arsenal and Liverpool for 4th, no easy task.

Very frustrating draw, I am more annoyed now than I was when he lost to Watford, that time we were just shit.

It's incredibly frustrating and all but we clearly deserved to win the game.

We created a ridiculous amount of clear cut chances that we would normally bury and they scored with one of the flukiest goals you'll ever see against the run of play.

People seriously have their heads in the sand if you think that was a good performance! Dreadful performance against a piss poor Stoke team with Joe Allen running the show!

I´m quite angry, which I guess is a positive. Last season it was more apathy, arguably from the team as well.

I don´t think this was a particularly bad game. We created 8-10 good chances, had some excellent plays, Martial looked better than he has so far this season. Many positives really, which is what makes me angry - it feels like a rip-off dropping two points here.

I´m more inclined to blame our poor finishing than other thing. Yes, there were mistakes before the goal. Yes, we "choked" a little first 20min of the second half. Still, with proper shooting we would´ve won regardless. Ibra and Pogba the main culprits there, but I have to say the GK impressed me.

My impression is that we have a good team though, but for some reason we often miss an inch here and there. Still plenty of misunderstandings as well, that hopefully disappears after further training/practice.

Don't worry after a while you'll get over your meltdown

Why should he regret? he should bare some responsibility as well as the players and I'm sure he'll work something out to get us going.
