CL L Champions League Round of 16 2nd Leg

Manchester United 1:2 Sevilla

Post-match discussion

Coward manager. I called it tactical masterclass against liverpool. This game he got everything wrong.

Let's not kid ourselves with the tactical masterclass hogwash. It's simply risk taking which can either give reward or backfire. Liverpool were toothless so it was rewarded, but Seville wasn't having any of it.

It baffled me that Mourinho chose to bring in Fellaini, drop Mata and move Rashford to the right.

Even the players must've been scratching their heads.

Just not like Mourinho to get is so wrong.

I've supported Jose firmly thought his tenure but this is not the way a Manchester United team plays and he needs to realize that if we are to move forward
It's unbelievable that that's what we have to show with all of the attacking talent available. We have the better squad and it's not even close, match is at OT and yet we show them the respect as if they're Barcelona at Camp Nou and resort to long balls to Fellani for an entire half.

Mou: "I've sat in this chair twice before, with Porto - Man Utd out, with Real Madrid - Man Utd out, so this is nothing new for this football club." #MUFC

What the hell

Yikes that's a pretty shocking statement to make if that is an accurate quote and I'm not even a Utd fan.

Exactly. He had star studded Madrid and Chelsea teams, and he had them playing the same way. We will play the same way next season, too. Maybe we'll be more effective, but not more attacking.
His Madrid and Chelsea teams played some brilliant stuff.

I'm not even all that upset about it. I mean, if the players and manager can't give two fecks, why should I. The team team that deserved to win, won.

So what is it? The players not giving a shite or Mourinho setting us up in a terrible, negative way?

Pi...d me right off this

Actually that's the annoying thing, man for man almost none of their players would make our starting 11. We've got a lot of stars would would be their best player by a mile. They played better for sure, but they were still poor for a CL side, we were just somehow worse.
Fair point.

We might be have better individual talent but I'm not sure we are a better team.

Once again we showed utter shambles with heavyweight midfield against fast and technical opposition. What did Mourinho think? That Montela wouldn't analyze our fiasco against Spurs? That he would surprise him with same old hoof balls as against Pool? Montela saw him all over, and well done lads, you deserved it. When Pogba came in for Feli, I felt someone walking on my grave. It was so predictable - no creativity, no originality, no ideas... I should stop. I'm 53 and I don't feel well after such games lately.

I think it started going downhill for us since Pogba was subbed on. We seemed to have lost the midfield afterward.
We had no midfield before it. Fellaini was never near it! Fellaini was on the wings, in their box, more advanced than some of our attackers, but never defending the midfield. There was acres of space throughout the game, Nzonzi had a filed day and bossed the midfield.

For 4-5 months now, I've felt like I've been watching a Van Gaal era team and I don't bother going to watch games on TV anymore. I have watched at most 1 game watched in the last 10.

I am really done with Mourinho and to an extent the players as a group - and this isn't even a knee jerk reaction. I can accept 2nd if we look like we try. A Manchester United team that plays without intensity is a disgrace to the legacy SAF left us.

The players then showed with the effort that they understood what it meant to be Manchester United players, this group I suspect is a group of whose mindset is that they are lads first and foremost.

There's no sign that we'll play proper football under Mourinho. Those who still want Mourinho to remain are in the majority I am sure however, Chelsea, Real and even Barca have shown that a high turnover of coaches is not a problem if you have the right players and the right attitude.

That's the kind of shit he was saying towards the end of his 2nd stint at Chelsea when everything was going tits up. Did he really say that?

You would think with Mata being Spanish and playing in Spain it might have been an advantage having him in the side.

C'mon guys.... no reason for panicking after going out from Champions League against Sevilla

They're one of the best teams in LaLiga and would definitely be a contester for a top 4 spot in Premier League.

It's not like the club were eliminated against fecking APOEL.
Um, no. Their defending makes Arsenal look like Juventus.

Easy when the team is steamrollering the league and you have two midfielders working behind you and two defensive full backs.

Plus his performances were ok to good, not phenomenal at Juve. YouTube skill shows deceive his overall contribution.

Yes Juve knew how to get the best out of him. Mourinho clearly does not. Pogba is the type of player he is, if that type of player doesn't fit your coaching style and the way you want to play football than don't spend 100m to sign him.

What he means is "My record shows that I do fine, but United do not do fine in the Champions League. Its the club and the players, not me"

Wouldn't be surprised if he's building a narrative in his head now about how the Old Trafford crowd contributes to results like this, instead of his shithouse approach.

Mourinho press conf: "I've sat in this chair twice before. With Porto -- Manchester United out. With Real Madrid -- Manchester United out. So this is nothing new for this football club."

The most damning part of this whole mess is that Sevilla were fecking shite. This is not me saying that they didn't deserve it, 'cause they absolutely did, but they were still shite. We were just so completely and utterly incompetent that we handed them a passage through to the next round, where they're probably gonna get ruined.

Fecking appalling.

Over the two legs

Seville had 46 shots with 14 being on target.

We had 23 and 4 on target.

its even more damning when you consider that leicester city beat these lot last year.

He is just saying Manchester United do get knocked out of the CL now and again. However not tonight they shouldn't. He has managed to knock us out three times now it appears. Well done Jose.
I guess he's a double agent, still on Chelsea's payroll. There's even evidence: He played Fellaini!

He had help twice before from the referees. He's managed to do it all by himself this time round. Kudos.

I repeat what I said in the matchday thread. Jose had a plan. We were unlucky not to get a goal in the first half. However, once Fellaini went off, the wheels fell off.

You can see why Mourinho didn't start with Pogba. He was ball watching for the first goal, and kept losing the ball. Offered nothing in attack, nothing in defense, nothing in midfield. Just jogging around and kicking the ball out of play when chasing a goal in extra time. And the forwards had a bad day. Smalling missed that header, Lukaku missed an almost open goal, Rashford missed a header, Martial made the wrong choice. If we had scored, and Pogba not fecked up, at would be calling it a tactical masterclass again.

This is how it will be with Mourinho, no matter how much we spend. It's ugly and effective when it works, it looks very embarrassing when it doesn't. Today, it didn't.
Good post, particularly the last bit.

The comments by Mourinho remind me of when a Spanish jounalist pointed out that if it hadn't been for Casillas, RM would have lost. He could have said something about him being a world class goalie, the best keeper in the world, instead he said "That's what we pay him for." later in the season, after much criticism, he walked out onto the the pitch before the game in open defiance of the angry fans. I think he was sacked that season.

Mourinho out, if you wanted Van Gaal out you simply cannot defend these types of performances, which have been a constant for most of the last 12 months.

Can’t wait for all the muppets on here to tell me I’m a stupid cnut, please go ahead...
I wanted LvG out in december in his second season. This game has been the tipping point regarding Mourinho.

What the hell

So is he saying he's our bad apple ? Knocked us our of CL 3 times.
I know everyone would lost their mind after these kind of defeat but What the feck?

Some guy got mad at me recently for saying Jose was a prick sometimes and I didn't particularly like him.

With the game plans he puts in to place and the arrogant, condescending, and snide comments he makes I don't see who can.

I called it before the match. Said it would be like Celta Vigo last year. City would have put five past Seville tonight. Now Seville are not as bad as some are making out, but we are at home. I can understand it away from home. But at home we should be absolutely dominating. Pulled out my phone once i was so bored during the match.

Look i still back the man but cannot see how we can improve in the summer. We have a wealth of attackers and he cannot get them firing. Need some MFs alright. But it will just be the same next year as well.

Could you please send me some of what you’re smoking. The only reason we are second is because everyone around us have been pathetic too. As much as this hurts to say I really wished we weren’t 2nd but outside top 4, then we would be rid of this reject of a manager.

Everyone around is pathetic? Really?
