PL L FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:2 Norwich City

Post-match discussion

Sat, 19 December 2015

There was a period last season when we were outplaying the likes of Liverpool, Spurs and City that I genuinely thought he was the right man. It looked like it all had a clicked.

It's evident now that we are a long way off, and his fate is pretty much decided now. He will be sacked by Monday, i'm sure of it.
Someone made a post about one of the keys to Leicester's success this being square pegs in square holes, wingers on the wings, strikers up front. While I don't think it's out biggest issue, why we are playing Martial out wide, Rooney up front and Fellaini in midfield is baffling to me.

Time for him to go. He has clearly lost the confidence of players and fans. If we were really decisive we would go for mourinho immediately. We might actually salvage top 4 this way.

Not surprised. LVG needs to go. This is a theme that has not changed. I've been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but things will not get better under LVG.

Piss poor and once again just embarrassing by us. We're now 9 points behind Leicester and level with Spurs and Palace. This is just not good enough, we are going to have to accept another mediocre top four finish this season if we are lucky, that's not right for Man Utd at all given the insane amount of money spent to ensure we were better than this.

This is getting ridiculous now. To lose to a team that has only won once away this season is a joke. That's no disrespect to Norwich, because to be fair, they thoroughly deserved.

It's getting to a point that if a team defends reasonably well against us we'll either draw 0-0 or lose.

I don't usually moan, but I'm really getting pissed off with all this now.

I'd like to stick by him but he really cant lose another game (if he even survives this one).

Only really saw the 2nd half, we still just don't create shit really. Wingers were barely in the game. Strikers are completely starved of any meaningful touches.

Last season, progressively building towards something. This season, everything good about last season has been binned, for whatever reason.

Something has got to give soon. There is no sign of the team playing back in to form. The longer it goes on, the more ground we give up on top 4.

I really do not like Mourinho, but I'm becoming more and more keen on getting him in.

I love this club but we have to accept that we have been run very poorly and are getting exactly what we deserve at the moment. We have too many players who are not up to the standard and don't have the fight in them that they should have. I would be happy enough if we gave it a go and had grit, determination and belief, but many of our lads shy away from tackles and believe that since they play for us that good things will just happen magically. We have brought in two managers following SAF that clearly are not good enough and have been unable to motivate the players. You can't blame the owners as they opened the purse strings but to no great benefit. I have been saying since last season that I don't think we have the quality for top 4 and play more like a 7th place side and it seems that is where we are headed yet again.

I know that many people think that with our fan base and money that we will get back to the top sooner than later, but if I am being honest right now I see a giant in massive rot and decline. We need the board members who know the game to start making better decisions and bring in someone who can do a job for us. As it stands right now we may not make the CL again, and no matter what we think our status is, many top players will not be happy to move to Manchester and play for us in our current state.

Who do I pick for MOTM? I could usually rely on Smalling or De Gea but not even them today...

The team looked like they didn't even know how they were meant to create decent chances. If it was supposed to be through crosses then we rarely had enough players in the box, and those that were in the box weren't making committed runs.

Looking through our squad and there's too many players that I have high hopes for but realistically, aren't going to give us what we need in a game like this.

I like Herrera, but the fact fans are desperate for him to come on says it all. He's a likeable enough fella but we seem porous when he's on the pitch.

Mata again. Love the lad. He simply has been awful this year. Just isn't doing enough, he has to be dropped soon (I have no idea who for). Something needs to happen now. The good news is we have the January transfer window coming up, so there is options out there. Get in some fecking pace in this forward line and lets give it a proper go.

None of my match ratings were higher than a 5 and none were lower than a 4. It's all just so mind-numbingly, painstakingly fecking boring.

Banging in cross after cross. So many shite crosses. No one on the GK to put him under any pressure. No runs towards the goal.

Fellaini in CM... The gap was crazy to see in the middle of the pitch.

So many times Blind could of overlapped and just hung back. Infuriating.

Smalling up front. What a charlatan of a manager.

Mata once again a waste of space. Jones was a bull in a china shop.

There was no real quality out there. We are just incredibly average. Norwich were shite, WTF does that say about us?

Most will use the excuse that we have been short in many areas. Today we had competent midfielders on the bench but still insisted on Fellaini. LvG clearly overcomplicates things and is always thinking of things from a tactical perspective. I think today should have been as simple as picking the right players for the right positions and just going for it.

There's not much to say, not only was the quality lacking but the heart was as well, just flat.

Sorry Louis. Take your bags, Wayne Rooney, Phil 'Goober' Jones and feck off.

I'm surprised at the reaction in here.

We actually played relatively good football today, much more attacking minded and fluent. We need a proper striker to lead the line and actually stick it in the net, but the intent was actually there for once.

Is it good enough? No, of course not. We lost. But at least it was better than the terribly boring football we've been dishing up for most of the season. Although right at the end it went a bit shit with the players looking lost unfortunately.

Spot on!

We just can not string a consistent midfield to transition the attack. To often players are just passing the ball around and relaying on a 34 year old Carrick to distribute that one ball to open up the attack.

Finally turned now. Problem is, who can replace him at this moment? No top coach will move during the season.

If Ancelotti can be enticed, he'd make a good caretaker until the summer. But if he's already agreed a contract with Bayern, I'd imagine they will want him to learn German and get acquainted with their set up, the league etc..

I'm not sure what we should do at the moment. LVG has to go but so does Giggs & Rooney. Who do we bring in? We won't get top 4 if this continues these are not good sides we are dropping points to.

Urgh...where to start really.

Even though we've lost 3 on the trot, I'm still not 100% LvG out. Maybe it's because there are encouraging signs (primarily in the 1st half), and it just feels like sooner or later we will click. The last few games we have looked somewhat better going forward, but then I think, we were fecking dire going forward so how much better is that?

I really don't like the chances given to Rooney especially when we have a livewire like Martial shunted out on the wing. I don't hate Felli as much as some of you, but he's deffo not a CM, and should be playing further forward. Ideally, we'd play a 4-1-4-1 like we did at the tail end of last season. That's where we really showed our true worth. The summer just signalled really poor squad management. Letting the goals go in Hernandez, RvP, Falcao (lol), letting experience players who can 'do a job' go (Evans, Fletch, Rafael, Nani), and replacing them with 1 or 2 players just isn't good enough.

Is LvG that much better than Moyes right now? I'm not so sure.

I felt sad seeing Roy Keane walking out.

How far down we have fallen.

I blame Fergie for Moyes. But LvG has made it worse.
Remember Sir Bobby vetoed us getting Jose.

That is the biggest mistake that this club has done and yet nobody has come under fire for that mistake.

We get jose we go from strength to strength.

every time we play against poor defenders we make them look like a Franco Baresi and Nesta combo.

prior to their win today Norwich had one win in 11. Let that sink in.

We had zero effort where their keeper had to make a difficult save.

Surely Van Gaal is done.

The old guard have far too much to say when it comes to decisions.

We need a big personality and a winner, unless you go for a younger coach- which I don't see us doing

Mods should just lock players performance threads because it really makes no sense to criticise them anymore with this man in charge. It's not like they aren't trying.

Wasn't that what we thought Van Gaal was bringing?

There is no excuse anymore. This is the year in which the Stars have aligned and all the best managers in the world are available. If we don't get one of them then it will be a monumental failure on our part. It's either pep of mourinho for me. Failure to get either one will mean a much longer barren trophy run.

Woodward must go out and get either one of them immediately. If it's mourinho then LVG should go by Monday. If it's pep then there should be strong consideration to let giggs manage the side till the summer. No way LVG should be allowed to stay. The fans, media and even players have turned. It's over for him.

Even though Van Gaal might (might) deserve some more tine, we need to strike while the iron is hot. With both Mouhrino and Guardiola (maybe even Ancelotti) free, we need to make the most of it and swap managers before some else takes them.

Yep exactly.

I'm half inclined to think LvG had Stoke in mind when selecting his team today.
