Poor, but I think a couple of people in the Matchday thread overplayed just how poor we were. We had chances and Lukaku and Sanchez were both quality in the build-up.

We were let down by poor displays from Lingard and Martial in attack while Pogba was anonymous. Jose has just said there was 'no problem' but for our sake we should hope he was keeping his cards close to his chest, because if he was fit he was woeful. Either way Jose should have been ringing the changes long before we conceded, too many players not at the races today.

Never be a force again with stalling and Jones as centre backs (yes I know it says stalling, its what spellcheck put for smalling which is apt so I left it) both are shockingly bad , as for stalling today WOW!! just WOW. With no miracle manager like sir Alex who could turn shit to gold behind them they look what they are, bang average.
There is to much wrong with this team where do you start ???

So poor,again.
Im not impressed with Mourinho or any of our players. They all need to step the feck up.
If we go 1-0 behind,we are basically beaten. The players and manager seems clueless of what to do when it happens.
Deserved loss

I don't give a feck if Mourinho leaves in the summer to be honest. There's simply no way that we should look clueless on the pitch in 90% of the games we play after the money we've spent and after how long Mourinho's been here.

On Pogba. Again. Getting to the point where I don't give a feck if he stays or not. He hasn't been good enough in his time here and can apparently only play in 1 system and we look horrendously unbalanced in any other system. He has to show he is good enough to build around him first before we actually fully commit to that, and I'm beginning to doubt that.

On Lukaku. Yeah he did "alright". Ish. But that's Lukaku. He'll get goals now and then. He'll have decent bits of play. Is he or will he ever be on the same level as what our main strikers under Sir Alex were? Not in a million years. He is way too limited, wish we never bought him and he's another one of those where he'll just hold a spot and hold us back until we get a more dynamic striker that won't limit us like he does.

What a shambles knee jerk post.

Log off and try and get your marbles back.

Drop Lingard to the bench, he's shite again. Play 2 of Carrick, McTominay, Matic and Herrera with Pogba in a midfield 3.

Also while Jose does deserve some blame. Let's be clear about a couple of things

He didn't tell Smalling to dive.

He wasn't why Martial hit it at the GK when he was in on goal. He wasn't why Sanchez took a moment too long to shoot at the empty goal. He didn't blow for a foul on Lukaku's disallowed goal when 9 times out of 10 had an opposing team done that to us the goal would have stood.

Not sure we are playing to Lukaku's strengths entirely, but he could be another striker who is weighed down playing for United, it has happened before.

Pogba, we have been ripped off. I expect a world beater for that sort of money. We could have got a couple of top class midfielders for that money, or at least used it towards them. He is a little boy in a man's body and has a little boys temperament.

Some serious fundamental things wrong with our club

- The manager and his philosophy is outdated.
- The wrong players have been purchased for his system.
- How do we have 2 makeshift wingers as fullbacks and no proper right winger despite spending half a billion pounds
- Lukaku is a mistake ( The next manager will hopefully rectify this)

As I said during the mid season, we don't deserve 2nd place and are definitely gonna slide down the pecking order, got quite a few wisecracks out of the CAF too :)

We'll make top 4 and that's about it. People expecting us to suddenly turn into this free flowing attacking side next season are gonna be disappointed.

This is how Mourinho's team have been and always will be. Signing better players won't make Mourinho change his footballing philosophy this late into his career.

Really, really poor.

Pogba was shambles and has been for weeks - if he's injured, what's he doing on the pitch? If he's not injured, what the feck's he doing? Looks like he doesn't want to be here. As a result we had no midfield (as opposed to our usual "half" a midfield) which means there's no service to the front 4. Lingard is pointless right now - he's not going to carry the team. Lukaku, Martial, Sanchez all played fine - two bad misses from Sanchez and Martial aside. But we need to get a midfield on the pitch to give them something and someone to run off. Defence? Just a shambles really, but I think our lack of midfield leaves them so utterly exposed that it's hard to be too critical.

Shelvey would walk into our team right now.

That all said, on another day we score a few and win, despite the performance. Jose needs to sharpen up, because this isn't working. We're 2nd because we have great players, but we can't rely on them always producing something from nothing.

No great fan of Lukaku but today is not the day to put the boot into him. He was our best player today.
We have huge problems in defence and midfield, he was the least of our problems.
Like I said. He can have decent days individually but he'll never be the solution and it was a mistake signing him. Disagree he was our best today. Sanchez that easily IMO. But obviously we have much bigger issues, he is definitely an issue though and the same issues arise in every game.

To be honest we weren't bad. Had couple of clear chances ( martial two, sanchez one) but the main point of our last two defeats is ; i hope that finally we all learned that smalling and jones must go. We all wanted attacking united, both games we started with attacking squad and because of that all flaws of mike and phil are showed.
This is last time that i will comment them so i will say it all. They can't play with the ball, they panic, they lose concentration, they do some stupid decisions and the biggest flaw- they can't play without mistakes. They are not good enough and need to go while we can get some money for them. I am sick of those two everton level defenders.
Also, lingard is again bang average and pogba's form is a big concern.

On a positive side. Our attacking trio played good again. They should scored of course but in general their form is good. But again they must kill thesexgames when they have a chance

Another game. Same spineless performance. The players are the ones on the field, but it's the manager's job to motivate them. The fact that we almost always start our games so slowly tells me that Jose isn't doing that. You start like you aim to finish, so it's really no surprise that we ended up with nothing today.

I don't care if he was one of our best players today. I'm saying he isn't a Manchester United striker. Yes he wasn't our big problem today but he can't take the game by the scruff of the neck and score a goal out of nothing. In the end he will be a failure like Berbatov was.
You can't blame him. He was a lone striker in a sea of Newcastle defenders. I thought today was one of his best games in a while. He held the ball up well and linked up with those around him. He has typically given the ball away very cheaply. Not today.

We've got to score our chances as we dont make many it would have been a completely different game if we'd gone one up. Yet again too many players looked a yard off the pace or simply disinterested they need someone ripping into them.

If points were awarded for hitting the defenders with the ball we would have had plenty. Finish your chances. Martial come on how many did he want. Sanchez must be thinking 2 away games in prem 2 loses. Why did Jose carry on so long with pogba?..we got what we deserved today nothing. Away in champions league is going to be interesting as will Friday in cup...

I get the impression United players are lacking motivation, with City being so far ahead and Mourinho conceding the PL title. Judging by the performance today, it's going to be difficult to cement second place, and a long season too.

Worst performance from a man utd team ever,, both manager and too many players at fault.
Pogba doesn't seem to have the correct mentality to be a top footballer, and too much mediocrity within the .

Of course it's not. I have seen a lot worse - this season. We weren't good naturally - but we still should have won the game. But Pogba and Matic centrally is a recipe for disaster. Why FFS can't Mourinho use Martial, Pogba and Sanches behind Lukaku - with McTominay and Matic centrally...so much better.

Smalling had one of those games where he's just shit, but you can't really blame him for the goal. If we can't defend a free kick from the half way line, we deserve to lose.

Pogba should've never played today. He's pretty useless at pressing and defending when he's fully fit but atleast he can carry the ball out and make good passes. When he's clearly injured like he was today, his passing ability alone does not justify his starting in a two man midfield. As much as Jose would probably like to push the blame to Pogba on this one, this one's on him.

Anyone who saw the line-up and got excited need their heads checked, very predictable.

Still stunned that it’s 2018 and we manage to finish the game with six out of 11 players on the pitch that we could also have fielded in 2011.

We genuinely need about £250 million of investment in the squad at today’s prices, plus, if we want to watch decent football, a fundamental shift in coaching style which is unlikely this far into Mourinho’s career.

What Jose sees in McTominay is beyond me, and how he can play the same team as the insipid performance against Spurs is beyond comprehension. Worrying to say the least

What attacking threat do we have on the right at the moment?

Like I said. He can have decent days individually but he'll never be the solution and it was a mistake signing him. Disagree he was our best today. Sanchez that easily IMO. But obviously we have much bigger issues, he is definitely an issue though and the same issues arise in every game.
I agree with the general point, however I am beginning to feel sorry for Lukaku.

People just want to bury their heads in the sand in relation to Mourinho when it's clear as day he's wasting the talent we have here. Some players starting ahead of others too when they shouldn't be, sorry but Young is half the player Shaw is, why's he starting, average entitled players asking for pay raises when they shouldn't be anywhere near this club which Mourinho has encouraged (Fellaini)

Get a better manager in, in the summer, contract extension was absolutely ridiculous this early on when the season is at this point and shows this club is run poorly in a football perspective, he's serving up this dross and we could still land outside the Champions League spot for crying out loud and you give the man an extension? Ridiculous.

Smalling... how many chances does he get? He should be furthest down the pecking order. Under the smallest amount of pressure the best thing he can accomplish is passing to DDG or Jones

So Pogba, is he really one of the best in the world? He shows glimpses, but glimpses arent what makes you the best. Consistency does that.

I hate using the word overrated, but mehh.

We should let Sanchez leave. Poor fecker probably already regrets coming here. The standard of some of our players on the basics of the game is an absolute embarrassment. Jones and Smalling in particular were a disgrace today.
I still don’t understand why we signed Sánchez...it didn’t address any of our problems, mainly someone with pace who can play on the right. Now we’ve just created a log jam of players that play on the left and we are forcing martial, who has been in great form from the left, to play on the right. This and the fact that Pogba is a soulless player who wilts in the face of adversity and looks out of shape.

I think I’m entering LVG stages of «can’t be arsed» soon. We were absolutely second best at everything today. Losing to the better team is ok, losing because you think you’re better and having a shit attitude should honestly get you fired as a player. Appaling attitude from the group of guys out there today
Absolutely spot on and well put!
We are in dire need of winners in this team. Individuals who will put everything on the line for three points. At least look interested u massive bunch of pussies
