Liverpool 2:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

It seems different models gives different values here. understat has it on 2.86-1.67. Which would be very even if not for the penalty. I also think Amad's header miss don't have any xG as it wasn't headed towards goal.
Thanks bud. Yeah the amad chance makes sense but those XG stats almost give the false impression that we were lucky, whereas it was probably balanced, if not us being slightly unlucky actually.

Only thoughts include an agenda with curled edges. Knowledgeable posters saying Maguire was excellent yesterday. Maybe give that one a rest.

He was excellent. You can still be disappointed a last minute chance fell to our centre half rather than a forward though. I hope that's all the poster meant.

That was a great result and performance and I just wanna say that we might not be "back" yet, but.. when we are back, and that's "when" not "if" it is going to be a thing of tremendous beauty. The resurgence of Man Utd will be one of the most high energy forces in football. Can't wait.

Yeah, I agree. Especially since Maguire had that last chance. It was an even game.

I'm not a big Maguire fan, but he certainly looks more comfortable in a back three, and has also put in some good shifts.
Maguire has been putting in pretty consistent performances of late, (less than one 'whoopsy' per game) much more consistent than many players who are rated better than him.
He deserves the extra year on his contract, and it gives Yoro time to settle in.

I don't think there is a coincidence in that we had a decent game after Amorim had a decent training period and he seems to have his first choice team. Probably need to have a look at CF and LB - although Dalot had one of jus better games ( was actually putting in crosses with his left foot).

I fully expected Liverpool to thrash us....but no, our players actually turned up ready to fight! All the desire, passion, fight, spirit and good attitudes that have been missing for so long were they by the bucket load! We saw them running, fighting, chasing and getting into their opponents faces the entire match! It was a brilliant team performance that made Liverpool look quite ordinary, and man to man we out matched and out played Liverpools players.....but will we play in a similar way next time out?
We came so close to winning which would have been well deserved and Liverpool only got the draw through a pretty debatable penalty.

Yeap. Both Amorim and Bruno said the same thing in their post-match, that they are not just happy, they are more angry that if this is how they can play, wtf was the last several weeks...

So they know....

I think WHO plays also matters a lot. Casemiro and Rashford can never play again. They need to go. Eriksen cannot be blamed for lack of effort, but he simply doesn't have legs, anymore.

Dalot, Licha, and Onana are the ones that turned it on today, but were crap in pervious games. Let's hope they can find some consistency, but better yet - we really HAVE to sign a decent left wingback in January. If we can raise money by selling Casemiro or Rashford - so be it. If we need to sell the likes of Garna or Dalot - we still have to sign a top left wingback or two. Sacrificing Zirzkee to bring-in a striker that fits us, also makes sense
Couldn’t agree more. Instead of Dalot, I’d let go of Malacia. Having said that a striker is a must. I feel if we had a clinical number 9 yesterday, we would have won that game.

I was wondering how he got the yellow. That was pretty stupid of him, yellow all day long.
Totally. Bruno actually did something similar at the first goal with United fans engulfing him enough so that Oliver couldn't see him to get the card out!

Yeah, well - I am not happy about suggesting we sell Dalot or Garna. But we have to be self-aware. If we need to raise money, we need to sell players that others actually want, like we did with McTominay. Nobody wants Malacia or Luke Shaw. We still need to get rid of them, but clearly we are not going to make any money off them. Dalot and Garna are good players, somebody will want them, and we can make some money that we can hopefully reinvest for players we need even more, such as - top left wingback(s)

One thing I really liked about the performance was that even at 2-2 we searched for a winner right to the death.

Some players showed their true level. I’m really hoping that it’s because they are now become familiar with what is expected from them. Dalot really looked like something had just clicked , he was a constant headache for Trent.

Sell Garnacho and Dalot?!

Mental.

We play 3-4-3 in case you haven't noticed, and neither of them are proper wingbacks for Amorim's system. They will be great elsewhere, while we can get some money to buy players that actually fit our system

I've been on board with fielding Garnacho offers for a bit now. Dalot I could go either way: could see him as the more defensive of the two wingbacks ONLY if it's on the right side because he does bring vital PnP that much of the team lacks. But at the same time it would only work if he could offer more going forward on that side as well.

I'm no expert but surely Garnacho could play some matches in the position where Fernandes played against the scousers?

Amorim is right, if players don't show this passion, intensity and will in the next game, then this game was pointless. Some of our main culprits had a really good game. Can't say that I care for FA cup this season, but winning Arsenal would be nice!

Would hate to lose either but we may need to sell Garnacho to fund some purchases. He doesn't have a obvious role in the system as either #10 or WB.
Agree on this one. Garnacho has some resale value. His mentality and character is suspect and with no clear role in the team I would be ready to sacrifice him for the greater (team) good. Along with Rashford and Casemiro. Dalot versatility is an asset as he can play across both flanks so I would keep him.

We need to put in a performance again like we did at Anfield. I think we've got a chance if we don't mess up at corners again.

Did you watch Dalot vs Liverpool?

He’s 20 (I think?) and hopefully still very adaptable. I think he can play wide 10 as he did vs Liverpool

Garnacho and Dalot still have something to offer this team. They deserve the chance under Amorim I personally think. I wouldn't be overly happy to lose them, even if to fund new players. I doubt we'll get massively big bucks for either, though that might not the an issue in itself.

I'd rather the look at the players who Amorim doesn't seem to fancy or we don't feel have a future where they're going to get a ton of games - Malacia, Anthony, Bayandir, Zirkzee (maybe harsh given he was only recently signed). I think Maguire is prime to be moved on, but looks like he is staying and probably doesn't want to leave, so won't. I would expect we'll entertain serious offers for Rashford, but it would be a mistake to bend over and let him go for peanuts - I've no doubt that a fresh start would serve him well and he'll do well elsewhere - I think his time at United is over. Sancho too, must leave fully once and for all.

If we could get rid of Mount I would, purely for his injury prone nature - if he wasn't injury prone then maybe he'd get a decent run in and out of Amorim's system, but I don't see how anyone picks him up right now.

Lindelof, Erikson, Heaton and Evans are all out of contract in the summer, and I expect these four to go.

I didn't watch it live, I've since watched it, I thought imo we should or could have won that, silly pen , but it's those they get at Anfield, De ligt needs to stay on his feet Gapko doesn't turn him ! Otherwise it was overall a great performance, 100% better than the last 4 games .
It's pointless getting excited over it as the normal guys may turn up again on Sunday at Arsenal?. I'm hoping not as one utd fan told me before he went to watch them v Toon we have to turn a corner sometime! Maybe this game was it.

100%

Garnacho is a wide forward which we don't use. I'm sure he's good enough given time to adapt to one of the 10s or wingback role (or even give the option as a wide 10 to mix it up like Liverpool).

Dalot is progressing, can potentially play both wing back positions and would be happy being a squad player - no reason to sell even if we do need competition for him given we have no other options.
