Manchester United 4:1 Leicester City

Post-match discussion

We were as good as Leicester were bad.

It's a start but we need to start doing this against the better teams before we proclaim ourselves as a worthy title challenger.

Am I the only one who still thinks our best performance was against Southampton? You know if we're basing it over 90 minutes?

Scoreline flattered United but they played well and some if the attacking play was very encouraging.

Once Mkhitaryan is fit I hope he comes straight back into the side. I like Lingard but he doesn't offer the technique to excel.

Great first half, Pogba, Herrera and Mata bossed it and it was good to see a position that Rooney excels in.

How did it flatter us? We missed 2-3 really good chances and Leicester barely had a look at our goal. Which game were you watching?

Great performance. Basically won the match in the first half with some excellent attacking football.

Blind, Bailly and Smalling were solid at the back. Blind showing his range of passing really is excellent.

Great to see Mata and Herrera excelling in midfield. The pace of Lingard, Rashford and Pogba was really too much for leicester at the end. We were running them ragged and it was great to see us break their shape so easily, when last season they were very solid.

It was obvious that Jose took the foot off the gas in the second half. Look how deep Ibra was playing.

- Fantastic performance and result
- Rooney being dropped justified. Should not be in the starting 11.
- Everyone very impressive especially Herrera in the holding role, Pogba, Ibra's workrate and aerial ability and Blind's composure at the back. Couldn't fault one player today.

The scoreline flattered Leicester, we could have easily buried 6-7 past them.

You're like the third person trying to talk this nonsense about how average or lucky we got in this game. Where are all these nonsense coming from? Certainly not the game most people watched

Magic first half. It brought back some great memories from teams of past that SAF managed. The second half was as expected where United made sure there was no chance Leicester got back into the game. Leicester showed at half time they knew the game was over by taking Vardy and Mahrez off. The only thing I would have preferred that our subs came on a bit earlier. Glad to have 3 points in the bag.

I like that @Jimmy Skitz deleted his post about Slimani bullying and playing with our defence that he posted before the game.

Stand up and take the abuse like a man, no need to delete those posts.

4 goals in the first half, Van Gaal must be disgusted.

Bloody good win and a first half where mostly we played the sort of football that gets the fans at OT on their feet applauding. Who knows whether we can continue this vain, but I'm going to enjoy today and not worry.

Where have I said United were average?

They are a disgraceful bunch of cnuts but credit where it's due, Mike Dean and his assistants had a great game today.

Just think how good we'll look if you put Mkhitarayn in for Lingards spot.. . Lingard did alright but he just isnt on the same level really. Hopefully we see it next weekend. Martial or mkhitaryan on that other wing and we'll hammer stoke

Ibra was brilliant. Didnt score but having him come off and having runners off him that were pacey (rashford and lingard) and smart (Mata) meant our football was much better.

Yes we scored three goals from set pieces (which is a bonus as we had somebody taking it who wasnt hitting the first man), but we could have had a few more goals from open play.

Started shaky. Once we got the first goal, we were able to relax and it shown in our game. Dominated and thankfully we were able to score goals.

What did we learn today, 2 things

1 - less rooney and fellaini, more mata and herrera
2 - before today started, we have been going into games playing 10 to 9 men.

But more on point 2, it did prove today how much better we looked with 11 men on the pitch, not 9 or 10 men. I am not a huge fan of lingard which I thought could be a problem, but? the energy and intelligence of herrera brought and channeled the best out of Pogba, hell both herrera and mata brought more to pogba's game, that he was not playing with 2 brainless footballers in fellaini and rooney, but 2 crafty technical players who can pass and move with beautiful execution of the ball and that one touch football.

But that is the philosophy for Jose Mourinho now, less fellaini and rooney, more herrera and mata. Players play better with better players around them, and our football will never improve if we have fellaini and rooney in the team

But? I still think in tougher away games and tougher games we need to play 433

carrick or blind
herrera pogba
mkh zlaten rashford

Let the reigns of Pogba and Herrera off the lead so they can do the midfield battle, knowing carrick is holding the fort. Jose has 2 fixed formations I hope he plays, easier games mata playing off zlaten, tougher games herrera and pogba supporting zlaten

Fans deserved this kinda performance from the players after a horrible lat week. Great performance on the whole.

First game I've managed to get to this year and we were excellent. Herrera and Bailly were outstanding. Lingard had a great game aswell adding energy into the midfield, just the sort of game he needed after his last performance.

Who was the poster that made the "I can't wait for Rooney to get dropped because people will finally wake up to how shite Ibra/Pogba/Mata etc have all been" thread?

Oh yes, that was pleasant to watch.
The most important thing was that we attacked with purpose, nothing like the last week's mess without an idea what to do with the ball.

Herrera MOTD, Blind was excellent as well. Pogba scored!

3 goals from corners. Not sure I can remember the last time we did that.

We were better today, though Leicester defended very badly.

Yeah, Herrera will be on Match of the Day

That was so much better. We attacked with conviction for the first time all season. There was no Rooney slowing everything down. Herrara was excellent with Pogba. Mata excellent.
