LC L League Cup Semi-final 2nd Leg

Hull City 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Thu, 26 January 2017

It was always set up to be a tough game. Hull had it all to go for, it looked freezing there.

We did the bare minimum to progress but that was poor.

Carrick came out and said they're all very very disappointed. Good to hear. Our standards have risen under Mourinho,

José showing why he's the best there is. Away to Hull, who barely have a team, and only losing by one goal to take us through to the final is the stuff of dreams. I think it's safe to say we're back, boys.
All true. Still on course for 3 titles this season. Good stuff.

Hull had more passes, more shots, more chances and more possession. We were outplayed tonight.

Dismal, schoolyardish, sloppy, dull, and many more words.

Got the impression that if Hull had scored another goal, United would just have walked off the pitch and said, you go to Wembley.

The upside is it was all that and we still went though.

What did he say?
Dejected, the whole team is disappointed in how they've played, it's a weird feeling because they're going to the final but all they're bothered about right now is the bad performance.

Reminded me of performances under LVG. Hard to pick out a Man of the Match.

Last 3 matches, Pool, Stoke and now Hull we have played gradually worse.

Jose needed to rotate more today, past few weeks we have spent a lot of energy trying to come from behind. Still everyone of the players should be embarrassed with today. Pitiful.

In a way it was good that we played crap. Will hopefully help Mourinho in being more ruthless in getting rid of some players who seem to be getting away with crappy performances for awhile.

Get Bailly and Rojo in as a CB pairing and relegate Jones and Smalling to 3rd and 4th choice.

Also do fecking sort out that LB position once and for all.

Oh, and never let that patchy bearded bambino Darmian come near our team again. The absolute shitehawk.

Cant disagree with any of that. Again its evident we have to replace Carrick, Rooney and Smalling. If we replace those 3 with young talented players we will be making a world of difference to our squad.

Lindelof, Weigl and Greizmann type players. Bring on the summer.

Love Jose but seriously some of his team selections are starting to piss me off. He moans about giving Martial a chance, but how many is he going to give Lingard? And what way is Rooney a better option on the left that Martial, or Mata?

That was poor. Mourinho's football seems very "hit & miss" to me.
Overall, I understand the posts claiming it is "entertaining" but I feel we are too reliant on instinct in attack, it seems he has given them the freedom to construct the play as they see fit, which is good, but this much freedom sometimes makes it look messy as we don't occupy the right spaces to open up a regrouped defence.
I wonder if the fact that we are so reliant on instinct is the reason why we miss so much as we tend to snatch at chances. Thus the "hit & miss".

Alright, just to expand on my earlier comment on this thread about us being shit, the cause for us being shit is the persistence of Jose to play a full back who can't do shit in attack and does very little in defense (Darmian) and also playing a player who is so afraid of having possession of the ball that he panics and fecks up almost 3 out of 4 times (Smalling).

The opposition are encouraged by the excellent play of these 2 in defense and in turn gain confidence and pile the pressure on them. Today's performance is not on those 2 alone, but they share the majority of the blame.

Also it is ridiculous that Shaw sits on the bench and Rojo plays fullback when we have seen time and time again that he's fecking shit at it.

With the full backs not offering much width in attack, the pitch becomes narrower and our attackers are marked out. I am hoping to never see that full back and defense combination ever again on the pitch in a premier league game as it can only mean a fecking disaster.

that is the third game on the trot now we have been dogshit tbf.

Simon Thomas on Sky has just asked Phil Neville...

"Is the length of the tug relevant?"

There are no words.

Could he not have just said a few more platitudes though? We need to seal this evening in concrete and dump it in the sea, never to be spoken of again. Anything that makes it in any way newsworthy tomorrow is a needless distraction.

Completely agree with @duffer. We didn't look up for it today. I'm a bit worried now that the brilliant run we were on might be ending and we could go back to inconsistent performances.

Read the post match comments. Not a very happy bunch.
Its a very trigger happy post match reaction on here, though. The match was shite, but all it was was an auto pilot performance. They need a kick up the arse, but the fact we're in a final is great.

Rashford was man of the match for me. But the game passed others by. Our midfield was second to a lot of 50/50s.

He's put the focus on him and the referee without mentioning the referee.

Although United were a bit flat tonight I thought Hull played pretty well considering the amount of trouble they've had recently. New manager, hardly any players, struggling In the league, no cash. Fair play to em.

That was fecking dreadful.

It occurs to me on nights like this that we have some seriously limited players in our squad - Smalling, Rojo (at left back certainly) and Darmian just don't have the ball control or passing skills required to be as 'important' as they seem to be in our squad, and they aren't going to improve now...

Players couldn't be bothered, I could barely be bothered to watch it on telly, the away fans were good.
