We weren't great today but we can actually create chances and score now so that's a demonstrable improvement over the last guy.

I agree, but this game could have been one where we score that same jammy first goal and then just get two against us in turnovers, we score again they score late to make it 2-3 type of game. It didn't really feel like that today for me. It was more boring, more pragmatic, but a comfortable win in the end

First time to OT today. We started alright, then became sloppy and kind of scored against the run of play. We were definitely clinical and Everton deserved a goal atleast.

Amad was electric my MOTM, his skills, energy was brilliant. Zhirkee also had a good match. His pass to Amad for the 3rd goal, nobody could see coming.

Maz was excellent self, same with Dalot. Licha is great at threading the passes. We will definitely loss that against Arsenal. He is the only defenders who tries that even.

Rashford scored good goals but his touch and passing was sloppy.

Onana, Bruno and Maguire solid. Mount and Garnacho didn’t do much to make a difference.

The atmosphere was a bit flat except the Stretford end which kept signing throughout the match.

Where did you get your tickets from in the end? And where did you sit/stand?

Three points, four goals scored, none conceded and match basically won as a contest before half time. Bigger tests ahead but today was very much a job well done.

This sh1t about Arsenal. I hope the players are not going to turn up with the same defeatist attitude as some on here. They’re only 6 points ahead of us and if we win it’ll be only 3.
Yes, it’ll be tough but not impossible.
Let’s beat them and see where it takes us.

This game has me more baffled than ever with xG.... continually seeing Man Utd were between 0.6 to 0.7's depending on the model, yet 3 of the 4 goals should have been reasonable decent in their own right, the other being Rashfords opener... rest are clean shots in a decent place in the area, not sure how those 3 alone don't even cover at least 1xg.

Either way, can't win with some. I enjoyed it. Confidence should obviously be growing and that's a key thing.
You’re better off just watching the game mate.

Was buzzing after going 3-0 up early in second half then bang Kobbie and Licha suspended for Arsenal within minutes which is frustrating

There's no way of saying this after a 4--0 win without coming across as the worst kind of moaner but I actually thought we were fairly crap today - in possession, at least.

Mainoo back on the pitch, ball in the net four times, clean sheet, three points, moving up the table - all great to see. But felt like we still looked pretty clueless when we had the ball. I'm probably at the patient end of the spectrum when it comes to knocking around at the back, but at times we looked out of ideas about how to beat their press, and just knocked it from side to side among the back three until panic set in and we played a speculative and unsuccessful ball. Don't remember Mainoo and Casemiro giving much of an option and felt like our only productive out was a long pass into the channels to chase. Plus felt like we have very few players who know how to take care of the ball. There seemed to be so many heavy touches, hopeful passes or flicks that didn't come off etc. I'll accept it to some extent from Fernandes because he does create chances, but feels like Rashford, Zirkzee, Casemiro, Dalot and probably more are all prone to pissing the ball away. Plus we surrendered the ball under pressure more than once in a way that a team sharper than Everton could have made us pay for.

Maybe the stats will prove me wrong - I was only watching on my tiny phone screen after all. But aside from the confidence boosts to the forwards' confidence from their goals, and to the defence from the clean sheet, plus (of course) Amad's continuing stellar performances at wing back, I didn't actually see that much to build on.

Oh well, onward and upward. I'm strangely confident that Amorim will get us playing great in the end.

Great first experience of OT. Nice to see RA and the lads, and - hopefully- be able to say you saw history being made.

DAMN!

I do wonder just how good ETH actually was/is.
Personally, I think his level is the Dutch league or perhaps a team battling relegation in the EPL - though I do think he'd get that team relegated.

Amorim has certainly hit the ground running and is doing well. It is difficult to tell if this is the new manager's bounce or if he is genuinely implementing a great (goal-scoring) playing style.

I wanted him gone, but i don't like this retrospective stuff. He was very highly thought of and other teams around Europe were high on him. This was obviously not the the right job for him.

I would like to see him get a job in one of the top leagues and see how his team performs.
As you say, he was highly thought of in Germany and Holland before he came here so he is obviously a good coach but it did not work for him here.

Other websites like Understat have us at 1.76 xG which I think is fair and a lot more representative.

The xG posted by XG Philosophy are almost always horrible and completely non-reflective of the game state. A player can score from outside the box into an empty net and the xG will be 0.01, which shows how ridiculous the xG model they are using, which is solely based on where the shot is taken without any consideration of anything else. Zirkzee scored 2 routine tap-ins, and they were only counted as 0.1 xG each....

I am surprised that they are the most popular xG source and is used by EPL in their stats.

We were actually quite poor in our general but due to some crucial contributions by strong performers on the day, we ended up a fantastic win. With the season we’re having, results like this can really move the needle and lift everyone. But I’m also happy to see Amorim focus on the performance and need for improvement.

Onana- 7.5
Martinez-7.0
De light- 7.0
Mazroui-7.0
Dalot-6.5
Amad-8.5
Casemiro-6.0
Mainoo-6.0
Bruno-7.0
Rashford-7.0
Zirkzee-7.0

The difference in the team is incomparable.

Remember the palace game when we should have had 4? Or the Fulham game where Fernandes missed two he’d normally score and we scraped a 1-0. Or the Brighton game.

That should be an extra 5 points and plus 6 goals.

The difference is that under Amorim we are so far taking our goals. 8 goals in 3 games.

I think Arsenal away might come too early for Amorim but so far so good.

We still need to improve in possession and moving play through the middle. Mainoo was understandably below average. Him returning to form would help a great deal.

A player like Mount in the 10 position over Rashford/Garnacho might also help with this but really like having a pacy option up front, looking to spring clear.

Also think a left footer at LWB would also make us smoother.

What  ? So, I get Rashford's first being low xG, but the remaining goals were clear cut chances.

Yeah absolutely ridiculous, I understand the concept of XG but it's basically useless if the metrics aren't calculated accurately.

I have asked these questions before...but take Zirkzee's first goal, for example...how us XG calculated here? It's a left footed finish from just inside the box, and the fact that it's Zirkzee's weaker side might make it seem like less of a chance...but obviously the huge difference with this particular effort is the goalkeeper is out of the equation.

If you asked me, as a lifetime football fan, to rate the likelihood of a goal resulting from each shot I'd say...

Rashford - 0.5/10
Zirkee - 8.5/10
Rashford - 7.5/10
Zirkzee - 7.5/10

So how we have ended up with 0.79 makes the who thing entirely ridiculous

Thought we were pretty good today. We look miles more threatening under Amorim so far.

Cautious optimism so far. We've seen a new manager bounce before but so far the signs are good.

Other xG metrics are showing completely different, e.g. understat.com:

Manchester United 1.76 - Everton 0.77

1:0 Rashford 0.04
2:0 Zirkzee 0.43
3:0 Rashford 0.33
4:0 Zirkzee 0.44

Seeing the goals it looked terrible. I was fine giving Dyche a bit of time to see if he could turn it around after the first four games but 13 games in and it's not pretty. We are poor in the underlying metrics, he's lost the fans and looks like the players now too. Atmosphere last week around the ground was rotten and Pickford was shouting at Dyche during the game. Don't even blame Branthwaite for the goals tbh, Dyche encourages slow and cumbersome football. We need a proper manager to inject some fecking life into us.

From what I've read, the goalkeeper's position is also taken into account. But there may be different ways to calculate xG. Someone posted that Sky showed a different number than this tweet, for example.

But bottom line, if the system determines that the chances for our three last goals collectively doesn't even equate to one "expected goal", the system is garbage.

I certainly hope so, I am taking the credit of us winning by 4 goals in premier league. I hardly remember when was the last time we scored four goals in the league let alone winning by 4 goals margin.

Opta has it on 1.07 - 0.58, with Rashford's second being measured as the only "clear-cut" chance on xG 0.33. Zirkzee's were xG 0.11 and xG 0.20 (which is a good chance) respectively. The xGOT on Zirkzee's first goal, after Pickford doing Pickford things, is actually 0.72. This is the difference.
