What  ? So, I get Rashford's first being low xG, but the remaining goals were clear cut chances.

This is such bullshit. Amad has a great chance where he scuffed it. Then 2nd, 3rd and 4th goal were clear cut chances and you would be extremely disappointed if any striker missed it. The xgoal stat is not reliable. I saw the match live at OT, Everton was good value in the first 30 mins and could have sneaked a goal but after that it was one way traffic and second half was stroll in the park after 60 mins.

It's like someone opened the windows and let the fresh air come in for the first time in years.

Think this was an error, a lot of secondary outlets shared this info yesterday, including FotMob, but then a few hours later the numbers had changed. I think they all get it from Opta and for some reason Opta's live feed went wrong.

That XG thing is utter cr@p. As if a logarithm loaded with preconceptions and weighted can tell us anything more than watching real life in all its glorious chaos.

Was buzzing after going 3-0 up early in second half then bang Kobbie and Licha suspended for Arsenal within minutes which is frustrating

mainoo probably wouldn’t have started agaisnt Arsenal anyway given he’s only just returning from injury. Bit of a shame with Martinez though hopefully shaw can step in and cover. Although I’d be a little wary of starting with only one recognised CB

Just wait for understat, the xg philosophy is a bloke throwing darts at numbers and then just posting them. It was 1.76 v 0.77

The game started with the old attempt at unsettling us by Everton forcing us to play towards the Stretford end first half. Didn't think anybody cared anymore (was probably down to Ashley's influence):nervous:.
Anyway it didn't work, Everton did have the better of things for a while and until our lads got settled into their new 'play-groups'.
There after there was only one winner.
Amad was brilliant, never let up, never let any Everton defender settle on the ball, assists in 3 of the goals.

Its a stat. A single stat won't tell you much about a game in isolation, but it can certainly shine a light on one particular element of it.

1.2 v 0.7 according to Opta (on fbref).

It's really not so strange, xG reflects primarily the position the shot was taken from.

Rashford's first was just 0.08, with the Post-shot xG (PsxG) 0.09. But then you don't see a lot of shots taken from outside the box and through a corner-packed area make it into the net.

Zirkzee's first was 0.11, with a PsxG of 0.72

Rashford's second was 0.33 (0.39 PsxG). That was a really great finish - there's not many who would score from that.

Zirkzee's last was 0.31 (0.40 PSxG).

I thought Everton were terrible yesterday. Gave us an acre to run into and made some ridiculous mistakes.

Great to see Zirksee and Rashford score a couple each. I really liked Zirksee's link up play. Amad is looking great - im not sure if he will be wing back long term as i think he could contend for a number 10 position. Good confidence boost, but it has to be taken into context how bad Everton played and how they let us play in a way that suited us.

I didn't like seeing miles between our forwards and are back 3, thus leaving tons of room in the midfield. That was reminiscent of the ETH days. I think out defence of scared of pushing up for fear of getting beaten in behind. We cant press as a team if we dont move up the field as one.

There was a couple of times Everton passed directly through our midfield and it is a bit of a worry that having two in there may not be enough when most teams are playing with three, and sometimes four if like Arsenal they bring a full back into the middle when in possession.

It is early days and it will take a long time for Amorim to get us back in real contention, especially when you see the level that Arsenal and Liverpool are at currently. Plus, he is playing with square pegs in round holes. Many of our players are very different to that of the profiles of players he had at Sporting, but as i say, it will take time.

Arsenal will be very tough but i'm more interested to see how we go against Forest and Bournemouth this month - two middling teams, without our talent level but who are very well organised.

First time to OT today. We started alright, then became sloppy and kind of scored against the run of play. We were definitely clinical and Everton deserved a goal atleast.

Amad was electric my MOTM, his skills, energy was brilliant. Zhirkee also had a good match. His pass to Amad for the 3rd goal, nobody could see coming.

Maz was excellent self, same with Dalot. Licha is great at threading the passes. We will definitely loss that against Arsenal. He is the only defenders who tries that even.

Rashford scored good goals but his touch and passing was sloppy.

Onana, Bruno and Maguire solid. Mount and Garnacho didn’t do much to make a difference.

The atmosphere was a bit flat except the Stretford end which kept signing throughout the match.
Congrats on 4-0 1st ever game at OT! That's awesome.

We made Everton look bad. You can’t come to Old Trafford and play out from the back like you’re prime Barcelona and expect not to have the shit kicked out of you when you’re actually Everton. I hope all the teams that come here are as bold as they are.

That statement kind of contradicts itself.

If Everton came to OT trying to play out of the back, when clearly they don't have the ability to do so, then surely it was them that made themselves look bad? They were terrible.

Yes, we pressed well at times, but it is not like we have learned to effectively use the gegenpress in a week. Their mistakes were from individuals getting caught on the ball rather than us winning it due to collective pressing.

Other teams will come to OT and play out of the back - the difference is they will have the ability to do so. Everton didnt, they were crap. Yet they still had 8 shots - only 3 less than us.

I have high hopes for Amorim and have been advocating for us bringing him in for over a year - check my post history. But not going to get too excited after beating a hapless Everton.

Today’s performance was poor, the scoreline is flattering us. Two deflected shot goals, and two goals were created by Amad stealing the ball.

However, this win is great for confidence, especially for Zirkzee who badly needed it.
I also love seeing us counter with our tails up.

Amad was great, and Bruno influential as usual.

Performances from our defenders were not so great. It is only three games in though.
Agreed. I watched replay on MUTV, a slightly better stream than during the actual game. When we're in the midst of the game, every approach could be a goal, but knowing the result, it was easier to assess how we were really doing. We were extremely sloppy. Everton, despite being poor, had 3 chances they squandered. A 4-3 would not have been unfair. We gave the ball away a fecking lot. Arsenal are going to be a lot sterner test of the new style of play. Hopefully we keep it simple.

Yeah need a Shaw v City 2023 performance

Likely what happened.

Might be Opta in the sense that the tracking location of shots was delayed or wrong.

The xG pholosophy guy (Michael Caley) used to use his own model based off Opta's data for shot locations, not sure if he still does or just tweets out whatever their model now says. He was one of the pioneers of bringing xG into the public realm and has been at it for over a decade.

Opta seems a bit all over the place. The Opta Analyst site shows "no data" quite a lot when you click on a specific match lately. It's also currently showing us at 1.07 when it was at 1.20 after the match.

All of a sudden we're in striking distance of top 4. City, Villa, Spurs all stuttering.
Which means Liverpool are cruising to their 20th League Title, though. Us having the most PL title is Fergie's last legacy, and now even that record seems to be defeated soon.

That's a clear pen, sure he fell over a little too easy, but on the other hand Bruno didn't fall over when he should've, but also should've had a pen anyways. So it goes both ways.

But that would most likely be a pen against us, considering the silly pens we've conceded.

Maybe that's not a bad thing. The record was always going to be beaten, these things are constantly swings and roundabouts.

It will hurt us as a club much more if Liverpool go on to become the dominant force as City wane. Maybe it's finally the proper incentive to get our finger out and get our house in order, because the only consolation of 10 yrs in the wilderness has been City's empty success.

I don't think we would have been as successful under SAF if there wasn't a burning desire to knock Liverpool ''off their f**king perch'. Maybe we need some of that fire back, and losing some records is necessary.
