Manchester United 4:0 Everton

Post-match discussion

United shouldn't have kept ETH and appointed Amorim at the start of 2024, we would be comfortablely in top 4. Let's use this season to decide who to keep or sell. Let's give it time, Amorim will bring us top 4. I love how every players knows that he will rotate the squad as it will give them more confidence and believe. Maybe experiment Antony as LW, it is probably better than Dalot.
Ruben is not a miracle worker

We never scored 4 under ten Hag no matter how shit the opposition was

We won 7-0 under ETH this very season.

Anyway the point is that Amorim still has a job on his hands, he isn't going to be able to coach the vulnerability and impetuousness out of the team overnight, as we've seen in his first couple of matches.

Same fixure last season :

United 2 - 0 Everton
Shots: 15 - 23
On Target: 8 - 6
Possession: 52 - 48
Passes: 488 - 444
Pass accuracy: 81 - 84

This season :
United 4 - 0 Everton
Shots: 11 - 8
On Target: 5 - 2
Possession: 60 - 40
Passes: 619 - 408
Pass accuracy: 89 - 87
Fewer shots from both sides. More passes with higher accuracy resulting in greater possession. Clear intent to keep the ball which ended up drastically reducing their chances. Much improved.

I know zirkzee scored twice and made a couple of key passes, but I am 47 and am probably more mobile, I know It is wrong to jump on him after today but even still I just don't see a premier league player in him

Rubbish first 25 mins but very good after that.
Everton are a dreadful side mind. Every goal was more or less a mistake.
Still that score line never happens under ETH in the Prem regardless of opposition. I do like the space our wbs get in this system .
Football. A sport involving an inflatable ball. Fun, fun, fun.

I think its all about context and results isn't it. Its nice to bring players on and rotate when there is little chance of it backfiring and you aren't making subs to change the game. Theres no pressure on the players. People massively underestimate the difference in everything when you are winning games and things are going well.

Plenty of Amorims subs so far have been odd. I assume hes trying things, resting players and generally just wants to get a feel of things but you can't stick Casemiro at CB in a game you need to win. You can't take off your best performing players early in the second half and then lose or draw games when you need a win.

What Amorim is doing so far is great and if he can keep all the players happy then his job will be 100x easier. We never hit our stride under EtH and I would say we very rarely did under the previous managers either. Perhaps under Ole for a while near the start. If we can put a run together and perform well as a team, the players will start to believe they are good and they will be good. Feel like you are always scraping matches and you are always looking over your shoulder and waiting for it all to fall to pieces. Good sides never think they are going to lose even when they do.
Nice post

It’s taken Amorim three games to win a match by 4 - 0, something never achieved by Ten Hag in 128 attempts.
DAMN!

I do wonder just how good ETH actually was/is.
Personally, I think his level is the Dutch league or perhaps a team battling relegation in the EPL - though I do think he'd get that team relegated.

Amorim has certainly hit the ground running and is doing well. It is difficult to tell if this is the new manager's bounce or if he is genuinely implementing a great (goal-scoring) playing style.

We are still too easy to play through and that will come. Le Arse will smash us playing that open. On a side, Dwight O’Neil is quite the player.

Calm down pal, it was woeful Everton at home.
Good to see we can score 4 though.
It might be overkill, but I can understand the enthusiasm. Everton have always been utter shite, but under Ten Hag we made them look like Barcelona on a couple of occasions.

We'd have beaten them, but probably 1-0 or 2-1

We’ve become quite good at sucking teams across with say a Garnacho or Zirkzee running down the left and then the wing back the other side is free for a squareish pass for them to take a shot.

I don't know how people can be downplaying today's win, we supposedly didn't play well but still cruised to a 4-0 win, is that not a good sign, also seeing zirkzee and rashford scoring goals is a massive lift when we was wondering where we was going to get goals from this season, we kept a clean sheet and amad is starting to play a pivotal role in our attacking play.

I would have bites someone's hand off that have seen this under ten hag this season.

First 20 minutes or so Everton looked dangerous after the goal we controlled the game.Nice comfortable home win something we've not been able to say too often.
Delighted with the start for the new manager but bigger tests ahead starting Wednesday.

It's funny really. Two of the most maligned players on here get a brace each Ghe goalie every one on here wanted to get rid of has the best stats. I guess that's why we are keyboard warriors and Amorim earns big bucks

ZZ is getting more integrated into the team play thanks to Amorim. No longer wandering around like a lost soul in a parallel football universe fixture. At his best he reminds me of Sheringham and Berba, fantastically subtle feathered flicks and headers. I say let's support this lad to the full and try and persuade him not to ask for a January transfer. I think there's plenty more to come from him.

I thought Zirkzee was excellent. Not just the goals, but his play with his back to goal too. He still has a lot to learn I think, but we haven't had a decent hold up player for far too long.

Marcus has looked better too, but I still feel there is something missing with him, he's not got the drive he used to have.

Ten hag deserved to lose his job for starting antony over amad, never mind anything else.

Dare I say, looked like a Ferguson era United match. Score first and allow the other side a decent showing and then dominate them the second half with attacking footie, meanwhile bringing on subs the calibre of Garnacho, Shaw, Ugarte and Maguire. Maybe not quite as relentless as Fergie sides but we’re starting to show signs.

We have a fantastic bench as well when healthy. Can’t wait to see Lemmy taking part.

Hugely positive signs. Still plenty to work on performance wise, and to be honest I think there are certain things that we'll need recruitment to fix, but the fact that Hojlund, Zirkzee and Rashford have all scored braces in recent days when they've not really looked like scoring much at all so far this season says something about the system. I'm thinking it's how much closer the attacking players are to each other, whereas the 4-2-3-1 is more rigid.

Amad was also terrific. An absolute crime Ten Hag gave him so little game time. His pressing is insane, and this system means that every time he does that and wins the ball back, he is in acres of space out wide.

You played well for 20 mins or so in the first half, after that you were just as poor as ever under Dyche, dude is a dinosaur and has no place in the premier league. Moana 2 was the best option today.
Seeing the goals it looked terrible. I was fine giving Dyche a bit of time to see if he could turn it around after the first four games but 13 games in and it's not pretty. We are poor in the underlying metrics, he's lost the fans and looks like the players now too. Atmosphere last week around the ground was rotten and Pickford was shouting at Dyche during the game. Don't even blame Branthwaite for the goals tbh, Dyche encourages slow and cumbersome football. We need a proper manager to inject some fecking life into us.

Lovely result. A rare thing to score 4 in the league over the last few years.

Loved Amads pressing!

Hope we can get something off Arsenal.

Age ain't nothing but a number. I liked Zirkzee's play today. He looked cool and calm. He made some nice passes and looks an intelligent baller. Yes he's still young but that just means he has a high ceiling. I'm all for giving him time to better get involved with the flow of the game.

GET THE feck IN!!!!! WE HAVE A FECKING SYSTEM!!!!!!! COME ON YOU FECKING REDS!!!!!!!

Excited about today, and even if we get thrashed against the Gooners, I can't complain because what we saw today is what Amorim is working towards. We will still have our matches where we think most of these players ride on the short bus, but this is a preview of things to come.

Blimey ! we can score goals !!!

Now the joint 2nd best defensive record in the PL this season, based purely on goals conceded !

A tough run coming up with...
Arsenal away
Forest home (joint 2nd best defence)
City away
Spurs away

Is it a big ask to get a minimum of 6 points out of those 4 games ?

.

SW: Everton are a great, historic club (and they are not Liverpool). Just in the post war period, Leagues in 63, 70, 85, 87, plus 5 FA cups and cheated out of winning the European Cup. So many great players down the years, going back to Dixie Dean. Best of luck to keep this woefully owner-mismanaged club going. We know exactly how that feels.

Today was a case of when we were bad we were very bad, and when we were good we were very good! Again Onana, Mazraoui and Amad (MoM) were very good. Very pleased for Zirkzee, involved in 3 of the goals, although there was a period he struggled when the whole team was struggling, his general play & movement was also very good today, showed a bit more aggression, and a big improvement on what we’ve seen. Wouldn’t write him off just yet, but he needs to consistently perform like this and also keep scoring.
I thought the positive about today was there’s a lot to improve on and Everton put up a fight, yet we still won 4-0 and everyone was buzzing in the 2nd half.

Today’s performance was poor, the scoreline is flattering us. Two deflected shot goals, and two goals were created by Amad stealing the ball.

However, this win is great for confidence, especially for Zirkzee who badly needed it.
I also love seeing us counter with our tails up.

Amad was great, and Bruno influential as usual.

Performances from our defenders were not so great. It is only three games in though.

This game has me more baffled than ever with xG.... continually seeing Man Utd were between 0.6 to 0.7's depending on the model, yet 3 of the 4 goals should have been reasonable decent in their own right, the other being Rashfords opener... rest are clean shots in a decent place in the area, not sure how those 3 alone don't even cover at least 1xg.

Either way, can't win with some. I enjoyed it. Confidence should obviously be growing and that's a key thing.

Jaysus.

Don't care about opposing team and if they are bad, because with ten Hag we would still watch bad football with bad result in the end.
I've missed first 25 minutes so I can't comment if we were bad as someone is saying, but after I've joined I really enjoyed the whole match without the fear we'll concede or screw up.
Of course Arsenal will be the real test but wouldn't mind to lose if we give them hard time with nice football.
