Post-match discussion

It was a terrible performance, or patchwork at best, anyway. Did you see the 2nd half?

How relieved or surprised were we to see the winning goal? It had hardly been coming had it.

I guess we watched a different game.. I am not saying it was great, but terrible is rather harsh, especially considering how our season is going. It was a very enteraining game though.

In the match thread even when Martial scored the winner LVG was getting stick. Like it was his fault Lingard missed two sitters in the first half. Some of you lot on here are just a broken record.

van Gaal's team selection did leave me fuming. But I'm blaming him for Lindgard's misses though. But we better have a a more aggressive midfield.

Well some like to moan. We're not in that bad a moment. Yes we should have done better in the league and we're seen some dire shit but today was good. After getting beat by liverpool, it was going to be tough but we got lucky at times and am pleased for LVG. Lingard is better then that. He gets in some good positions, he needs to be taking these chances. Hopefully he will next season.

With fresh players our most effective formation seems to be 4141. Today again we started brilliantly with effective vertical movements in our front line.

In the second half we lost our momentum and started to protect spaces instead of pressing the ball holder. But all in all it was a very good performance.
Not sure we played that formation, maybe wrong.

Looked to me as though there was clear intent from United on having Rojo and Martial attack Everton's right back since there was no Coleman. All our attacks tended to come down that side. Meant we played most of the first half with 3 at the back, which was handy as Everton did nothing to attack behind Lingard and Tim. Everton exploited our Left hand side more in the second half and I think that is why they brought on the speedy right winger. Plus when Martial took a knock we had no support for Rojo, making him look worse than he actually was.

If only Lingard has some composure he would be very good. He has the speed, certainly runs into the right spaces, but always seems to miss what appear simple opportunities.

That game was brutal to listen to on the radio. I have to have a sleep because I am exhausted! Going to the final and it is only ours to lose now! All of the lads sounded like they had fantastic games. So proud today!

OK, terrible might be an exaggeration but from the penalty through to the end wasn't at all good. It might have been entertaining & is a happy-tastic win iin a big game but I think we might be confusing excitement with competence. Lukaku could have had a hatful, the o.g. was shambolic & DDG was inspired.

I liked some of our attacking, genuine penetration & threat - we ain't seen too much of that this season, that's for sure.

Was at Wembley and I think I may have broken my right pinky celebrating Martial's winner. Hurts like hell. Epic day.

What a day. I went down ticketless and found someone with a spare for face value. Also bumped into Sir Alex entering the stadium and shook his hand.

Absolutely buzzing!

First game in a long time that has got me off my seat celebrating like a lunatic. That's how you win the Manchester United way.

Feck sake. I forgot to record the match, it's not on motd an BT sport don't have any highlights on tonight

Was at the match. What a wonderful game. Great performances from Fellaini & Martial. I thought Rojo was poor and Lingard was terrible. I was sitting near the corner watching Lingard run towards my end in the second half. It was impossible to understand what he is trying to do. He seems extremely poor at running the channels and giving his man a an option to pass to him. He cuts inside too much and always wants the ball to feet.

Wonderful game to attend. Great save from De Gea for Lukaku's pen. Great goals from Martial. Good last ditch pass from Herrera. Credit to Van Gaal for bringing him on. (and not a defender)

Part of me things the game was made harder by Van Gaal. I think it would've been a easier had Darmian started over Rojo and Herrera over Carrick. Fellaini would not have been a starter for me. But credit where it's due, the big man stepped up today and took his goal well, fair play to him.

Great game. Even had some good quality in parts!

It's so refreshing to finally have a few attacking players who play with pace and enthusiasm and work like lunatics every game...rather than once a month. I still don''t think Lingard is that good but he just works with Martial and Rashford, because they all run and force defenders to move. It's actually exciting to watch...I get this strange feeling watching these three play, I think it might actuallly be enjoyment? You actuallly expect them to do something when they get the ball. It's weird. Lingard just needs to sort out his decision making because it's baffling at times.

It's a shame we still can't put a midfield behind them that can function on a basic level for more than a third of each game.

Blind and his constant switching between ultra casual to super panic was annoying me. At one point he sprinted after an overhit Everton cross and got to it in a nick of time before it went off for a goal kick, in order to punt it off for a throw in...why? He does stuff like this a lot, as if his brain sometimes just nips out for a coffee or something. Also where did Carrick and Rooney go after it went to 1-1? What were they doing during this time? Signing autographs? Picking parasytes off each other's backs? Were did they go?

The commentary was annnoying. The constant suggestion that United have never really played at the new Wembley, even though they've probably played there more than any other team on earth apart from England. I mean, it wasn't even the first time United have played Everton there, in an FA cup semi final. Then mentioning LVG's big win against Chelsea that apparently saved his job?...when did this mythical game occur?

Danny Murphy managed to praise every single English player on the pitch for "playing well today"...including Gareth Barry who proved he played well by not actually playing, or something (prompting the camera director to show us a 20 second clip of Gareth Barry's boring shaped head, while the game was going on).

Thought Everton were good in the second half but they are also the second team in a row who seem to think they were unlucky to be knocked out by us, despite the referee doing everything in his power to help them.

Also very bored of this suggestion that they have loads of players who would walk into nearly every other PL team. Who exactly? Who in Everton's team would get a look in at Spurs for example?

I hope today eats away at "TC23" for some time to come!

I saw the little shit's celebration when they equalised. You'd swear he'd won a war or something

Don't see a problem with him celebrating.. He was not wanted by our manager. He moved to another club and he is happy that his current club equalized and probably was happy about it..

Fellaini was with Everton longer than Cleverley is with Everton and he celebrated his goal. Rooney has done multiple times vs Everton. Personally I am not a fan of this "non celebration" celebration..

We were all off our seats when Martial scored the winner, no?! So I won't begrudge TC23 for celebrating his side's goal, granted it was an OG.. Just saying. :)

Of course you are entitled to your opinion.. :)

Still buzzing with that win.. :D

Gareth Barry's "boring shaped head" LMAO!

No problem with him celebrating, was the way he celebrated or over celebrated

I think the likes of Stones and Barkley are very overrated - the potential is there obviously, but that's all I see at this moment. Lukaku is the only player of theirs who I'd fancy at United (today's horror show notwithstanding.)

I got really emotional when he scored - admittedly close to tears even though we've not won anything yet. It's just that it was finally a goal in stoppage time that had real meaning and it's been a while - that feeling of United being United finally.

As for the game - what a cup game with both teams absolutely bossing a half - though I do think even though they raised their game, with Martial getting a knock really made it tough for the rest defensively. Even if he doesn't track back that much, having him so much less involved plus Rojo back there put a lot of pressure on us. Still ice in his veins - what a cool finish.

Happy day indeed.
