FA D FA Cup 4th Round

Cambridge United 0:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

It happens. It's the FA Cup.
Not liked what I've seen (or not seen) from the manager, but it happens in the FA Cup.

So next time lets play Herrera, and hopefully less Valencia and Jones.

What's the chance that this gets blamed on having four at the back and we go back to 3-5-2 now.

At least we've not got a crammed fixture list. If we had CL football this would have been a real pain in the arse. As it stands the extra game might actually do us some good.

True, although it's still a bit of an inconvenience.

Feck it, we'll hammer them in the replay. Difficult game to be fair, crowd were mental, pitch was terrible, conditions were rough and the opposition players were playin like men possessed.

Lack of creativity from us clearly but happy to still be in the cup.

Solid performance. Very little ass twitching.

I wouldn't be against it if LVG was sacked in the morning. Might be knee-jerk but this is going nowhere. Jones taking corners, Fellaini playing winger. I'm lost for words.

If anyone was in doubt as to who our worst defender is, it's Phil Jones.

The headlines will gloss over the fact we did well in the second half primarily. Just needed better quality service to Falcao. He had scraps today. Again.

We absolutely battered them in the possession.

I liked Januzaj and Rojo for the most part, and Herrera brought some action when he came on. Those three were the best I thought.

Another clean sheet and possession win.

Dire. Utterly dire.

Before anyone brings up the draw Ferguson had against Exeter City everyone check the lineup United played that day and compare it to the one United played tonight.

it's not just that...context is important...we are more pissed off because we have played like that all season. We can't create clear cut chances vs cambridge.

We didn't lose. Lets remember LvGs squad is not perfect and the players are not playing exactly according to his wishes yet. Good result and great effort.

It would be funny if we went on to win the FA Cup after this.

Totally lacking in creativity and very slow build up. If the build up is so slow, any team in any division will be able to stay in shape.

Rooney should have been involved I would have banked on him finishing either the Falcao or Van Persie chance. We look like sterile Arsenal at the moment, that needs to be addressed. The BBC commentary was awful, at least try and be slightly impartial.

I am fecking sick of this tika takenaccio. It is by far the most boring football it exists.

At-least last year the matchs were interesting for opposite fans. This year is is a borefost for anyone. Just useless slow motion passing.

Absolute disgrace. Cambridge are the type of opponent that you kill off quickly. We just sat at the back and tried to control a game that should've been completely in our control even on our worst day.

Van Gaal has exceeded expectations against the big teams (Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool), but he looks incapable of giving the shite teams a pounding. It's worrying to say the least. We need to start steamrollering teams again to build momentum and confidence for the games that really matter.

Pathetic.

Falcao, Van Persie, Di Maria 150 million quids worth of talent?

Yes! We got them back to Old Trafford for a midweek night match under the floodlights, it'll be like being back in the Champions League!

There's something seriously wrong within the club and it needs to be addressed immediately

I'm starting to feel that way as well. Like post-1990 Liverpool. We're basically relying on our wealth to somehow get us out of the rut.

Falcao and Van Persie are both wage thieves. Get rid of both.

Herrera showed in his cameo that he deserves to play more.
Sorry but feck off are they, what do you do when you get NO service? Nothing. I watched Falcao up top and his movement, as always was excellent, nothing was coming into him.

Adnan did alright but the width was poor most of the night. Falcao unlucky not to score. RVP should have scored but it's the same old story. We need to get rid of Valencia and maybe one or two others because they're no longer good enough

The wind fecked us I reckon. One of those longs balls from Jones in the first half would have been perfect under normal conditions.

Herrara was the only one who showed any sense of urgency. Most of the players looked like they were on the pitch just to collect their paychecks. Very poor performance.

Losing all faith in LVG, his philosophy and his tactical stubbornness. I have serious doubts about getting into the CL. Worse than that, I can't imagine too many top class players pining to join this side in this or the summer transfer window. We look lost, soulless and a shambles. I'm not sure some of our players are good enough to be on a bottom PL side, let alone one as massive in revenues as ours.

I can only imagine what the owners must be thinking now. They brought in a manager who was supposed to be tactically adept, and yet continues to play the same 3-5-2 formation no matter how bad it performs. They sanctioned a $250 million spending spree in the summer, and yet most of our big name signings are massively under performing. Worst of all, we lack any characters or leadership without Rooney on the pitch (and I would argue he isn't really a great captain when you compare him to others of the modern United era).

The players should be ashamed of themselves and embarrassed at that performance.

Embarrassing, woeful, horrendous.

Somebody fecking tell Van Gaal to grow a pair and take some risks in games and not wait until 70 minutes to throw on Herrera so he can make things happen. Dreadful. Van Gaal was known for all his attacking football and takes priority in playing good entertaining stuff, it's been dreadful and boring though. Possession football is fine, if you have a purpose with it. Van Gaal is too risk averse though, and waits on the opponents to make a mistake while just passing it around the back. That's what his philosophy is. He's a very good manager and can get us playing the right way but he needs to stop fecking about and realize that as Manchester United manager, playing defensively and cautiously won't get you anywhere. It's the reason Moyes got sacked and what he needs to change if he wants all the fans to back him.

Can we please buy a player who can pass the ball out from the back.

And can we please stop being so cautious. Take a player on, play your way out of trouble ffs! Half of these players think the ball is a ticking time bomb.
