I would also like to see no more of these incoming transfers like Bastian, Falcao, Ibrahimovic, Sanchez, Matic etc etc. I would like to add to the exciting young players we have coming through from youth with super talented, hungry and ready to learn young signings

Totally agree with this. When I think back to our glory years with SAF, it was mostly the young and/or hungry players with something to prove that carried us to success. Obviously over time they developed into seasoned vets of the highest calibre like the class of 92, but it always seemed to start with those exciting, developing players. Whether they be hugely hyped youngsters like Rooney and Rio or more obscure signings who developed into greats like Vidic and Evra. Signing already established top class players was never really our thing, barring perhaps a few exceptions.

He’s been negative since the World Cup ended and I can’t see how he can retrieve the situation. He’s got 3 or 4 players in the line up who don’t want to play for club but somehow still are. Shaw, Pogba, Fellaini, Martial all wanted away. He kicked Mata out of Chelsea after player of the season and god knows where Sanchez’s head is.

The problem is that there is no plan or cohesion in the team. You need to plan and practice at least some of the moves. It looks like they are strangers playing. All seems to be on the back foot. Lukaku had Martial all on his own for his chance. He should have either scored or passed to Martial. Rashford seems to misjudge all the balls seem in the air.

To be chasing the game for three-quarters of the match and needing 4 goals in the end, 1.1 xG is very poor. Maybe unfortunate to concede three, but that was always a possibility with chances conceded.

De Gea - 6- Not really at fault for the goals with expect maybe should have saved the penalty, but it's always slightly harsh to blame a keeper for conceding a penalty.

Young -5- looks terrified off the ball whenever he's got it in a defensive area, like a hot potato just wants rid of it as soon as possible. Poorest performance in a long time.

Bailey -3- always looked unbalanced when the ball came to him and then usually fell over, also often makes poor judgment when somebody runs behind him. I think there is a good centre halve in there in time but far too reckless at the minute.

Lindelof - 3- Don't believe he will ever be suited to English football, would be a good player on the continent but this league is too fast and aggressive for him, always except him to lose an physical confrontation.

Shaw-6- started poorly but for alongside Fellaini the only one who wasn't awful, at one point Neville seemed angry that he had chased Knockhart across the width of the pitch. has Mourinho blamed the result entirely on him yet?

Perreira -4- wanted to much time, passing not penetrative enough, could have been any of them brought of though to be fair.

Pogba -4- I appreciated he never gave in and was always trying to unlock the defence but gave it away every time, worked hard but nothing came off for him. Still out best player and not too worried about him ( I'm not watching the post match analysis but suspect Souness is now masturbating live on air?)

Fred -4- Carbon copy of Pogba's performance, clearly needs time to get on the same wavelength as his teammates. I am excited about his potential though, Imthink when he seethes he will gives us an injection of tempo we desperately lack.

Mata -3- didn't do much wrong, but mostly because he didn't do anything. I think I was more involved in that game than him.

Lukaku -5- extra point for scoring, worked hard but extremely rusty which is to be expected somewhat.

Martial -2- frustrated me more than the rest despite not being much worse, mostly because after everything that happened in the summer I naively assumed he'd want to prove a point and take his chance. But looked like he would rather not have played, and worryingly looks like he will sulk until he or Jose are gone.

Lingard -4- Good off the ball, but looked like me playing when he was on it. Like Lukaku looked to be rusty.

Rashford -4- similar to Lingard in That's his off the ball running was good but nobody could find him, then when he was on the ball he gave it away far to easily.

Fellani -6.5- comfortably our best player, took the ball down well and then gave it to a team-mate who usually fell over it. Gets far to much underserved stick when he's someone you can actually turn too when the chips are down. What he does isn't often pretty, but I like him.

Mourinho -2- I have no idea what the team style of play is supposed to be, but when you have the talent at his disposable and often use the same Tactics as the Red Lion Inn then you have to be held accountable. Hate the pairing of Bailey and Lindelof together as neither of them are dominant in the air, and consider De Gea's only real weakness is claiming crosses leaves us vulnerable. Which considering we set up to sit back so often, is dumb. Really dumb.

Embarrassing. The way we play in the first half, it's like Brighton are competing for Champions League football and we're battling relegation. Defending is a joke. WTF was Bailly doing? Is he high on something? We offered little in attack despite having over 60% of the ball. One of the worst Utd performances I have ever seen.

I fear Mourinho might lose his job before the month ends.
Tbf teams battling relegation put in much more effort.

It's hard to pin point what was wrong today because it was just so poor in every area. You maybe can't blame Jose for the individual errors, but the general play and lack of cohesion surely comes down to the manager.

The Leicester result swept some of the poor performance under the carpet, but today just reminds me that we were lucky to get that win and deserved nothing against Brighton either.

You can argue that some of our players are just average, but this entire Brighton team was full of "average" players by the standards of our club. The difference is they're a well drilled unit who play as a team. Our transition from back to front is so slow and poor. Our defenders today looked like they'd never met each other before. Midfield just sort of stand around passing it from side to side, completely static off the ball. You look at Lingard play and he is forever moving, trying to find space and occupying people, but he's the only one.

Our front line isn't much better. We have no right sided players and Martial went missing again today on the left. Lukaku is better but needs a bit of support. His weaknesses are made more obvious by the fact he spends so much of his time feeding off scraps.

Since Fergie left, we've hired 3 defence minded managers. I know there was a rebuilding job needed, but an attacking and progressive coach would have fixed things in the 5 years since. If the style was right, we'd have given that manager longer than Moyes or Van Gaal to sort it out. You look at what Guardiola and Klopp have done in a similar or slightly shorter space of time. You can argue about their squads and budgets being different, but generally speaking they've taken decent teams and bought in a lot of players over 3-5 years to make them significantly better and more exciting. What have we done with all that money and all those transfers? Nothing...

Pogba should stop giving interviews. Jesus christ.

I’d like you to imagine that for years you said Mourinho wasn’t suited for this club.

And you’re called a WUM.

I’d like you to imagine that you say he plays negative football and is boring

And you’re called a WUM.

I’d like you to imagine you constantly mention Mourinho’s third year meltdown.

And you’re called a WUM.

I’d like you to imagine you knew this would happen. You were certain of it and you saw your club making a huge mistake and the heartbreak it would inevitably cause.

And you’re called a WUM and given a “hilarious” nickname. “The special One”

Some of you asked for this. I have no sympathy for you. Some of us fought heart and soul for the club, they feel ten times worse.
We warned them @Wumminator

Yes but the question the reporter asked was correct but obviously he couldnt go on rubbishing the players like he did pre season, or maybe been disciplined not to. He needs to see and fst his football no longer works and to try something new to him.

For someone who is right footed, it amazed me how uncomfortable and alien playing at right back seemed for Young. He was v good on the other side, but that looked totally new for him today.

Manchester United captain Paul Pogba, speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm disappointed, with my performance and the team performance. We didn’t deserve to win.

"I will always try. I know I lost a lot of balls which shouldn’t happen. I tried, I kept pushing, that’s my personality. I tried to help the team as much as possible. It didn’t happen today.

"Brighton prepared the game very well. Maybe we didn’t have the attitude to break them, to kill them when we had to kill them and to go through the lines. That’s a lesson we have to keep in mind.

"If we deserve to win I will say that but today the truth is we didn’t play well enough. They had more hunger than us and the result is the right one for them."

Sarri has been at Chelsea for a month and signed what 3 players? You can immediately see what he's trying to achieve. Mourinho has had 2 full seasons and £400 million...

As bad as anything we saw under Moyes and LvG. Despite all the money spent. Why don't we ever improve? Brighton doesn't have one single player good enough for our squad, yet they play better football then us?

Not sure sacking Mourinho is the answer to our problems, but it is usually what happens when teams underperforms as bad as this.

Kilometres covered.

Brighton 105 km
Manchester United 94-95 km

You tell me that's not crazy.

  • Everyone was poor and the tactics were shit. When both of these happen it's hard to get any points let alone win.
  • Pogba was extremely poor today. I thought he forced everything after the first goal
  • We are the players always so far apart during the build up? I was so easy to press the back 4
I don't think Mou is a poor coach, but I don't think his management style is suited for this era of the Premier League where all of the other top sides play attacking football. I think he would do well at a team like PSG, where the league is foregone conclusion and he can focus on the Champions League.

Mistakes happen but the most worry thing is United can't dictate play vs a team like Brighton. You don't need another £50M CB to put pressure on Brighton. That's down to coaching.

I don't see why people are on about transfers.
Coaches with less talent pool will put on a better performance than this. Lacked everything from a fundamental standpoint. ( Identity, Creativity , Passion )
Still find it baffling that we are the only top 6 team that doesn't press. Individual brilliance is our game plan .

That’s about as good a post match interview as a captain can give in this scenario.

The 2 CB's will get the bulk of the blame and they were crap, but this narrative Neville was pimping all match long, as if we didn't have a good defensive record last season, only tells half the story. There are much bigger problems, there was no spirit or fight in that second half, no patterns of attack until we went to the hoofball which got us nowhere, we didn't trouble their keeper for most of the 2nd half, bar one shot from Pogba, and even then Brighton didn't park their bus, they still looked to get at us.

We are an absolute disgrace, truly. Jose has to go now for me. The only reason the players can put in performances like that is because they're not playing for the manager. How else can they be that lacklustre? They can't call themselves professionals if they are playing for Mourinho with perfomances like that. No urgency, no desire. Just awful.

I know Klopp get's a lot of stick on here for his high fives and such....but christ I wish we got him when we had the chance. At least you can see he inspires his players, has a way of playing they all understand and execute. Same with Pep. We just look totally clueless.

We need big changes but most importantly we need the right changes. No more more just throwing money at things hoping they will fix the problems.

De Gea - Decent
Shaw - Great
Lindelof - Terrible
Bailly - Terrible
Young - Terrible
Pereira - Terrible
Pogba - Decent
Fred - Poor
Mata - Terrible
Lukaku - Poor
Martial - Decent

SUBS:

Lingard - Decent
Rashford - Poor
Fellaini - Good

Conclusions:

- Pereira is good when we have the ball, but pretty shit when we don't have the ball. Matic >>> Pereira.
- I thought De Gea, Pogba, Martial and Lingard were all pretty decent. De Gea could've maybe saved the pen, the other 3 kept possession well when they got the ball and looked sharp. The problem with Martial was that he just wasn't being fed the ball in dangerous areas. The team was just so poor overall - the attack was lopsided so whenever he got the ball he had a wall of defenders in front of him.
- Young was absolutely terrible, his only place in this side for me is as a left wing-back when we play a back 3/5.
- Bailly and Lindelof struggled to deal with the movement and physicality of the Brighton forwards. Easily Bailly's worst game in a United shirt, I'm willing to give him a free pass cos he is often very good for us. But as for Lindelof, time and time again he has cost us in these games with his poor defending - he is just weak physically compared to the strikers he has to deal with. Lindelof is good on the ball but when it comes to defending hes the 5th best defender at the club. Bench him for Smalling.
- Mata was basically invisible, he just doesn't have the pace or physicality to cut it for us on the right wing, he leaves our right back isolated all the time. Play him central or not at all.
- Fred, basically just a link in the chain for our build up, he looked pretty shaky and didn't do much but he wasn't terrible like some.
-Lukaku, didn't look sharp at all, his touch wasn't great but at least he seemed to put a good shift in today pressing at the front.
-Shaw, absolutely excellent today. I thought he was great. None of our defensive issues came on his side, it was all through the middle and on Youngy's side.
-Fellaini, looked very sharp when he came on, definitely impacted the game positively but was unable to be decisive. No complaints on him for me.
- Rashford did nothing useful when he came on but like Martial he held up the ball ok. Unlike Martial though he came on as a sub against tired legs and never really showed any threat, Martial at least got in a few dangerous positions and looked like doing something.

tldr:

Positives -

Shaw
Fellaini
1 game closer to Valencia and Matic return

Negatives -

Pereira
Mata
Lindelof
Bailly
Young
Ed Woodward and the failure to sign a QUALITY centre back
Overall team performance

Solutions to negatives -

Pereira: Matic to return at some point to replace him in starting XI.
Mata: Lingard to replace him in starting XI.
Lindelof and Bailly: Smalling to replace Lindelof in starting XI.
Young: Valencia to return at some point to replace him in starting XI.
Ed Woodward: Screw you Ed! You've screwed us over here.
Overall team performance: Jose needs to give the players a hounding, at least the ones who let him and us down today.

I personally still believe in the team and Jose. Its a real setback but I still think we're in for a pretty good season. Let's bounce back against Spurs!

It's just depressing isn't it?

Knew it was always much more likely to turn out like it did than any sort of win for us but you hope upon hope that they'll prove you wrong and then they proceed to have a horror show from front to back.

Mourinho should be ashamed but the players should also be too. Both are equally bad in this scenario.

You forgot the board?

A fivehead that only a mother could love. Besides all that, we are a shambles.

Hopefully hes angry because hes just realised hes a big BIG part of the problem...

United has had no real direction since this guy took over from Gill. We've had a transfer policy of buying young exciting attacking footballers but have brought in three managers that dont play exciting attacking football. Woodward is clueless and should have been left in the commercial partnerships department. We need a chairman that understands how to run a football club, not an investment fecking banker!!!
