Thats just bollocks though. We're not playing football well on a basic level. Maguire or Alderwiereld makes no difference.
We definitely needed a Toby in there, not sure if Maguire would help as he is relatively young as well, but I also agree that the way we are playing, you could change the whole side and it would not make a difference. That is down to the manager. His tactics are bad, but even worse he cannot motivate these players.

We're an absolute embarrassment, both on and off the pitch.

This is no knee jerk reaction, this is after watching 5 years of tumescent football and absolutely diabolical spending in the market. But do you know what gets me the most? The lack fight, the lack of hunger, the lack of passion? Where is it? It doesn't help when the manager is constantly miserable and doesn't seem to be realising he's managing Manchester United ffs.

I can take defeats, I can do take not winning every game. I know it's not the SAF days any more and we've been incredibly lucky as fans to see that success but today was just disgusting. We're chasing a game and have had 2 shots on target? 2?!! We have zero desire in this team. Anthony Martial is the biggest embarrassment at this football club right now, he has a ton of ability but has no balls. He's always sulking, hiding and has no passion for this club. I'd sell him now if we could, had enough. Granted his manager hasn't exactly been great with him, but show him he's wrong? Prove him wrong.

I've singled Martial out probably harshly given the amount of bad performances today but as I said its lack of hunger and passion from virtually every single player that hurts me the most. Nearly every single player that played under SAF had that in them and if they didn't they were gone, you had to show guts, you had to show some balls and fight for each other. Whether you had the ability of Cristiano or Ji-Sung Park every one pulled their weight.

I could continue the rant at Jose and the board, but we all know the problems there. This is about most of those players not giving enough for our badge, its not good enough. Part of me does think a new manager with a more attacking mentality would be massive for some of them and I would be fairly shocked not to see that happen at the end of the season, but right now whoever the manager is the players are letting themselves down and the club beyond belief.

Reality is our transfer business has been pretty atrocious bar Van Persie even in Fergies last couple of years. Post Fergie so has the management. Moyes was an awful appointment LVG and Mourinho are two world class managers, neither really are the right manager for us though.

As overboard as it sounds, we need an exciting attacking fresh young manager (someone like Nagelsmann), we need a director of football so WOodward can be left with the commercial deals, not transfer business.

Not only that our squad is so average in so many areas, the team needs ripping up, come the end of this season I wouldnt be sad to see any or all of the following leave Martial, Sanchez, Lukaku, Rojo, Fellaini, Mata, Valencia, Herrera, Darmian, Smalling, Lindelof, Jones, Young, McTominay, Mensah.

I would also like to see no more of these incoming transfers like Bastian, Falcao, Ibrahimovic, Sanchez, Matic etc etc. I would like to add to the exciting young players we have coming through from youth with super talented, hungry and ready to learn young signings like Zagre, Wan Bissaka, Upemecano, DeLight, Ascacibar, Guimaraes, Jadon SAncho, Dembele, Lincoln. I would be happy for another ne manager and another year of devlopment if it was with proper young and super talented players to play an attacking, high tempo, pressing and counter attacking type of football.

In short the manager isnt the right man, the board needs a link as WOodward isnt the right man and the players bar a handful of players really just arent good enough for the shirt.
Only two games in, lets not forget we lost to Brighton last year and finished second........but this is a side I feel will be fighting for the top four which I think we will scrape into

It isn’t just one loss. We were poor last week but got away with it. We’ve had a poor pre season with no real identity and plan. We had a rubbish transfer window. We’ve been dogshit for two years now. It’s not just one game, stop telling people to chill out because our problems that some obviously see much clearer than people like you are much deeper than that today.
We've improved drastically since moyes and van gaal. We have won trophies and been in the CL and finished 2nd. Yes we can do better but my point is there is an overeaction happening.

Jose cant be blamed for the pathetic defending, poor passing, poor decision making and generally dreadful performance. Its his job to correct all this but he's got his work cut out, only DeGea, who in no way was to blame for any of Brightons goals and Luke Shaw came away with any real credit from their 90 minutes. Lingard and Rashford added a bit of zest when they came on and Fellaini tried. Ashley Young was the best of the rest, but the rest of the rest were appalling. Yes its only the second game but if we don't get it right soon City, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool will be out of sight before Xmas.

£400 Million and 2 seasons not enough then?

Absolutely pathetic.

'Luckily' I am going on holiday soon and won't see the next few games or have access to the Internet even. I've no idea what shape we'll be in in three week's time.

Two years in, and we still look as if the manager took over last week. There’s no coherency in our play, no sign of a proper plan, no signs of where we’re trying to go as a team.
Exactly my thoughts as well. The players seem like they're still not really sure what's going on on the pitch! The worst part of it is, I'm getting immune to disappointments like today. I still hate to lose mind you, but it doesn't linger any more after the final whistle as it used to.

That was painful.

Just when I thought at least the talk of Jose was getting better with his praise of Pogba and put down of City....
Just when I thought his team selection was pretty spot on by playing Pereira, Martial, Shaw...
Just when I thought we were playing more on the floor and less hoofball...

And then this happens. Other than that Pogba shot saved by Ryan, did we even bother the keeper?

We have lost before.
Its not the loss.
There was no heart from the players.

Mourinho has lost his players....and the long time supporters.

Its not just him. This diabolical board.

More concerned about sponsorships than the Club which really are the supporters.

The worst thing to see is the fact that we go down due to mistakes but then play the rest of the game as if we're up 3-1.

No urgency, no composure, long balls, nobody willing to step up and take control.

No single player on the pitch played the way they did at the world cup which shows it's a coaching issue rather than heaping blame onto individual players.

Totally agree.

Mourinho will get all the attention, and I want him gone too, but these players can feck off.

I'm sick of them, cowardly overpaid losers with over inflated egos.
Yup. It's astonishing how the players get absolutely no slack on here. Yes the lack of tactics is on the coach, but just the plain desire to win and the motivation to put in the work is definitely solely on the players. Pogba with his antics in the media did nothing all game. Martial was invisible literally for the entirely of his time on the pitch. Not being able to pass to the player next to you isn't the Manager's fault. It's the players lack of focus during the game. Everyone needs to hang their heads in shame. The board the manager the coaches and more than all of them the players. Not one of them should ever wear the red of Manchester again.

I’d like you to imagine that for years you said Mourinho wasn’t suited for this club.

And you’re called a WUM.

I’d like you to imagine that you say he plays negative football and is boring

And you’re called a WUM.

I’d like you to imagine you constantly mention Mourinho’s third year meltdown.

And you’re called a WUM.

I’d like you to imagine you knew this would happen. You were certain of it and you saw your club making a huge mistake and the heartbreak it would inevitably cause.

And you’re called a WUM and given a “hilarious” nickname. “The special One”

Some of you asked for this. I have no sympathy for you. Some of us fought heart and soul for the club, they feel ten times worse.
I know how you feel.

It's just depressing isn't it?

Knew it was always much more likely to turn out like it did than any sort of win for us but you hope upon hope that they'll prove you wrong and then they proceed to have a horror show from front to back.

Mourinho should be ashamed but the players should also be too. Both are equally bad in this scenario.

Posted this elsewhere but maybe better here:

Criticising the mistakes is fair. But there is a coaching problem. It was the same against Leicester. So passive, never on the front foot and it results in shit like that. Nail on the head here.

Absolutely bang on. This is the reason why I was someone who wanted Mourinho in, but would be relaxed with the board moving him on. As a United fan, it’s a very weird feeling being OK with your manager getting the sack, but he’s looking incompetent . Even Van Gaal I thought we could have given longer, as I at least could see what he was trying to do, but with Mourinho now there is nothing. What are we trying to do?

We are poor going forward where our chance creation is dreadful. Defensively our transitions are so badly organised that teams expose our backline with ease. Compare the ease with which teams counterattack us and we counterattack the opposition. This isn’t about being more attacking or more defensive. I could get behind a team wanting to do anything well, but we’re not very good at anything and rely on good players bailing us out with moments of individualism. The classic example is De Gea’s conceded goals versus expected goals, but plenty of other players have bailed us out at times too.

We have a good squad. Giving Mourinho another three or four idealised signings would serve nothing. He’s accountable for coaching his team and developing our strategy and has failed to do that for over two years. This isn’t a case where a manager’s ideas are being let down by the playing staff he has to work with. This is a manager making little of the talent he has available. I don’t believe he’s the lost the dressing room yet, but neither do I think he’s giving the players inspiration and direction.

I would love to see Mourinho turn it around, but the body of evidence from his tenure so far has suggested a team who were incredibly fortunate to finish where they did last season and one whose natural place is no longer even in the top four. You cannot expect to win titles giving the volume of good chances away and creating the relative few that we do. I can place faith in previous good underlying performances, but not in good fortune. Our previous results may mask over Mourinho’s shortcomings, but previous performances, which are a far better indictor of future success, do not.

It's one loss. Some people need to chill out. Yes a shit result but a long long way to go.
I wish I could put my head in the sand and be willfully oblivious to everything that has actually happened on the pitch since Ferguson left. Would make watching the next game a whole lot easier.

Spurs next. Could get them going or god help us. It could be a disaster.

Agree with you on every point.

The only worse thing when making a poor decision is then allowing the decision to persist without doing anything to correct it.

Those calling for Jose sacking...Utd board have shown time and again they don’t have the courage to make strong decisions, so I dont expect anything to happen even if Utd keep putting tragic performances like today for the next 6 months. Our destiny was sealed once the club became a ‘brand’ and the Glazers only concern is perpetuating the business model that has increased the clubs value to what it is. Football on the pitch is just incidental.
Can't really blame the board for not sacking Mourinho. He did finish second last season, the board would have expected him to improve. If he loses the plot this couple of months, he willl be sacked.

The manager choices have been awful and they must be questioned for that .

I think I've just inched into the 'maybe Jose isn't for us' camp - I utterly love him, but the facts are undeniable :(
This is exactly how I feel now too. I've tried to remain patient and support him, but after today my patience is all but gone. We look terrible and this is going to be a long long season if this is how we play.

Well that was pretty bad.

Central defence non -existent at times, Lindelof still remains the worst of the 5 and positioning and awareness is still poor.
Bailly was bad too as was just about everyone. Shaw wasn't awful, Pogba tried but not very well for the most part and Lukaku seems rusty. The rest were rubbish and only Fellaini of the subs was an improvement.

Really bad day at the office.

One big worry in that team is lack of on-field leadership.

We are just delaying the inevitable, I can sense that Jose days are numbered. Is Jose really lost the dressing room? I hope not.

Also, we need to get a DOF and never again let Ed involve in football matters in the club.

Say what you want about the quality of players at United. Each one has more ability than Brighton players.

Jose has either become tactically inept or is unable to motivate any of his team. Not traits you want in a manager in any profession.

Def soul searching as something is very wrong here. Not saying they are the best we have seen in a red shirt but they are better than what we are seeing on the pitch. It's like we have just started where we left off last season....

This loss is on the board.

Mourinho said he wanted certain players and they reject all of them so clearly they don't trust Mourinho but they still kept him as manager. They should either grant his transfer requests or fire him and get someone who is more in line with what the board wants going forward.
