Post-match discussion

Agreed. We need a clear out from the top down. I'm also tired of the players hiding behind the manager when this happens. They're all talk until we actually go a couple of goals down, then they all go missing. Shithouses.

Totally agree.

Mourinho will get all the attention, and I want him gone too, but these players can feck off.

I'm sick of them, cowardly overpaid losers with over inflated egos.

Most of what you’ve said was true before the Brighton game. That not withstanding we kept him and need to give him some time. The club aren’t sacking him after two games so you all need to chill and accept it.

Agreed, I don't think the club will sack him anytime soon, and I'd be lying if I said I have anymore faith in our board than I do in Jose.

I just can't get behind him when he is so anti the United way. I will always back the team and I'll be there watching the next match as I always do. I refuse though to hide my feeling that with him we are only going one way.

Sadly it looks like Jose has lost it.

Was a great manager but it looks like his best is behind him.

In many ways, the same as United.

AS soon as it went to 3-1 the game was dead rubber. A group of 11 individuals on the pitch with nobody bar Shaw having a performance 4/10 or above. Bailly was shocking and some of those mistakes, wow. But again you got to look at the tactics Lukaku playing on the last man with nobody in a red shirt near him, makes us so easy to defend against.

Said it in the match thread, I think if we get beat off Spurs, Jose is gone.

That was actually a pretty good response from Jose. Think he must realise he is in trouble and any outbursts won’t be good. Managed to skip all the topics we really want answered but looked like he was navigating a mindfield.

Our backline absolutely killed us in the first half.

Still, should have done much more in that second half and at least try to get back into the match.

It's one loss. Some people need to chill out. Yes a shit result but a long long way to go.

It isn’t just one loss. We were poor last week but got away with it. We’ve had a poor pre season with no real identity and plan. We had a rubbish transfer window. We’ve been dogshit for two years now. It’s not just one game, stop telling people to chill out because our problems that some obviously see much clearer than people like you are much deeper than that today.

Just had a text from my Brighton supporting mate talking about my city is blue. i sent appropriate expletives his way, but I can't begrudge him his happiness. We are disgraceful.

Embarrassing. The way we play in the first half, it's like Brighton are competing for Champions League football and we're battling relegation. Defending is a joke. WTF was Bailly doing? Is he high on something? We offered little in attack despite having over 60% of the ball. One of the worst Utd performances I have ever seen.

I fear Mourinho might lose his job before the month ends.

You could have had Alderweireld, who is far better than any of your CBs, but United decided they wouldn't sell Martial to Spurs, probably because they thought it wasn't deemed befitting of an 'elite' club to give way to Spurs.

Result: Spurs get to keep a top-class CB for at least another season, helping us to play in our preferred back 3 formation (as he did against Fulham in our last match), whilst United are stuck with a bit-part player who wants out.

Maybe not the best time brother...

I know a few other people have said it, but watching the team today I'm also wondering whether he's lost...or at least is starting to lose, the players? I mean, sure, the goals conceded where bad errors, but you fight back from errors....and that did not happen in the second half. That fight surely stems from the manager....and a manager you believe in?

He can have a face all he wants but he also vetoed buying acenter back. I didn’t agree with spending that cash on maguire but if you are going to have a manager you have to back him or sack him.
If by back him you mean giving him everything he wants, you are suggesting an approach that has literally never existed.

It's one game guys, we were loosing 3-1 against Fulham under Fergie too.

With Fergie, defeats would often come with a reaction. Normally we'd go down fighting, but even if we didn't you'd bet on us to bounce back and show our mettle.

Did anyone seriously watch this game today and think we'd make a fight of it. Or can anyone say with any real conviction that this match will be the low point of the season. I don't think it's going to be an isolated result or performance.

We went in at HT having conceded 3 goals. I would bet good money that we don't score 3 goals in the first half over the entire season.

Thats just bollocks though. We're not playing football well on a basic level. Maguire or Alderwiereld makes no difference.

We have barely changed our squad since last season and the performance shows it.
Agree that we could and should have added more players. This group came 2nd last year though so lets give it some time and not kneejerk.

Its far too often that we said " thats the worst United's performance I've ever seen.

Looking forward to the generic “let’s have some perspective” threads that will no doubt appear

I think too many of our fans look for one thing to explain the current disaster when it is truly a combo of several things.
1) Owners who didn't back Jose this summer
2) Jose being tactically outdated and past it
3) Our players being weak mentally (always reacting and not taking things into their hands) and definitely not good enough.

Jose can moan all he wants, the truth is that he should be still be getting much more out of this group of players.

Our players in large parts are a disgrace to the shirt, half arsed performance, shrinking with a tiny bit of pressure.

Our owners/Woodward have feck all ambition to get the club among Europe's elite.

We are fecked short and long term

Would imagine he's thinking about the flak he's going to get tomorrow from the papers after telling them Toby wasn't any better than we've already got. If he's going to make statements like that he should be at every training session first.

Some comments here are branded as pretty knee jerk but the bottom line of what everyone is saying is true and worrying. There is a structural problem at this club. Ed needs support on the footballing side. Jose increasingly seems a bad fit. Players are not progressing or simply regressing. This match is not a one-off. We have seen similar performances from last season. This season is gonna be rough. I hope not, but it just feels like it.

Do you really think buying a centre back would have solved our non existent attack? That's the source of our problems. If you can't score, you get feck all points. Plus no matter who the board have bought, Jose is still not getting the best out of the players. Can't blame the board for this.

No point signalling out individual players because no-one played well, it would just be a competition over who was the least worst.

Think the chickens are going to come home to roost this season for Mourinho and it won't be pretty.

Necer seen a refferee in englosh football give so many fouls for such little contact.

Never the less, shite performence and deserved to lose. Jose will get a lot of slack for this, but all goals came from individual errors and both Martial and Rashford who people praise so much here, brought nothing to the game. Maybe the potential.isnt as great as we think

Im not a Morinhuo Out bandwoganer, but Mou needs to recognize wether he can do something with this team, or leave on his own terms. He doesnt want to go down in history as someone who made Man United it's lowest finish post Fergosun. And after 2 games Im reslly not excited about what the future might hold

Jose cant be blamed for the pathetic defending, poor passing, poor decision making and generally dreadful performance. Its his job to correct all this but he's got his work cut out, only DeGea, who in no way was to blame for any of Brightons goals and Luke Shaw came away with any real credit from their 90 minutes. Lingard and Rashford added a bit of zest when they came on and Fellaini tried. Ashley Young was the best of the rest, but the rest of the rest were appalling. Yes its only the second game but if we don't get it right soon City, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool will be out of sight before Xmas.

It's not the loss that's disappointing. Anybody can lose, but listening to Jose tell us that it's going to be a long season if we don't sign someone puts a damper on the whole club. It's almost like we are just going through the motions to fulfill a sad prophecy.

The Mourinho zealots must lay down their arms and admit he is not the answer

Who is then?. Is Jose THAT bad or is the club really THAT bad that it's going to take longer to sort the stinking mess of underinvestment in Fergie's final years, The Disaster that was Moyes and the soul-destroying possession based dross from LVG ?

Simply speaking that was a mess. Never mind this being United, this was an unprofessional display.

we're a mess.

all the headlines will be about United and Jose but Hughton is a fantastic manager and deserves a lot of credit for the job he's doing.

Said this last season, the job he has done with them goes unnoticeable, but he really deserves credit.
