Brighton & Hove Albion 3:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

It's one game guys, we were loosing 3-1 against Fulham under Fergie too.

Only one game.

We've already lost a game, and it's against a team of journeymen!
What happens when we play almost anyone else away, or any of the quality teams? We need to buck up very soon, or we'll be matching Jose's first season here - 6th.

First goal, Bailly has a brain fart and tries to intercept someone on the left flank already being closed by Fred, leaving Lindelöf alone. 1-0.
Second goal, Bailly and Lindelöf lost without idea what to do. 2-0
3rd goal, Bailly... no comments.

But you know what? Sack Mourinho and replace him with fecking Ed Woodward, the guy clearly knows that Alderweireld is not better than our 5 CB.
You are right to an extent, but this team is being badly coached.

Fully expecting Jose to be on the hot seat after that disasterclass

Shambolic performance all around that should surely have the board asking questions, not of just Jose but of Ed as well. We've had so many of these shock performances over the last 3-4 years that I'm beginning to feel numb regarding them

Although it is incredible how this is the same squad that came back from 2 down at HT to steal a victory at the Etihad just a few months ago

They looked absolutely toothless in the 2nd half and looked like they couldn't be arsed to chase the match, against fecking Brighton...

Regardless of how they looked out there,I'm seriously hoping that Jose hasn't lost the dressing room because things could only get worse (ala LvG) with Spurs up next if that's the case

All things said,I suspect that it's gonna be a real long week in the press :wenger:

There needs to be a serious change to the entire club. Better structure, better scouting, better recruitment. Actual planning on the football side.

Also, obviously, a better coach. This Mourinho experiment is clearly a dead end at this point, we're not going anywhere right now. I cannot even imagine what Mourinho's plan looks like, how we should look like if it worked. The team doesn't have any sort of character. I couldn't even list strengths and weaknesses of our team.

We cannot keep appointing managers and then just giving them a lot of money to spend as they see fit. It doesn't work.

I'm fairly apathetic now, as I am pretty much convinced that it's not the team but the club that needs to be rebuilt.

It was fecking painful watching stone age football under LVG. The club didn't learn the lesson and hired Jose. We thought that Jose anti football tactics could at least win us something important. I used to be in Jose camp but clearly it isn't working now. In fact, it's getting worse and we have to cut our losses.

I haven't hated anyone like I hate Jose at the moment. It is all his fault and I'd probably take David Moyes over him at the moment.
At least with Moyes he was clearly out of his depth. Looking like that more and more for Jose

I’m Jose’s defence he did ask for a new centre half...

What a fecking shambles.

Agree. But he bought Bailey and Lindelhof. Even if you put that aside, still feel this team should have beaten Brighton. It’s Brighton dude... We made them look like a top 6 team. They just handled us. That was pretty shameful.

Regardless of results the football under Jose will never change!

Completely disagree, it is the time for ''Jose out". He doesn't fit our club will not be successful here, do it soon of in 5 years but this is what we will be until he leaves.

We need to play to a consistent philosophy, one which fits the club and it's history. If it takes 10 years not not being elite the be it but currently this isn't Manchester United.

Most of what you’ve said was true before the Brighton game. That not withstanding we kept him and need to give him some time. The club aren’t sacking him after two games so you all need to chill and accept it.

No point in even thinking about City, we won’t be competing with them.

Nope. The focus has to be working on some sort of style of play rather than a general hope that an attacker can do it all himself, and a go at the cups.

Turned it off at half time - knew this team hasn't got anywhere near the attacking fluidity or spirit required to make a 3 goal comeback. TBH i've just had enough of this tumescent crap i've got better things to do with my weekend than bore and depress myself - its like the football equivalent of 'waterboarding' - last season was painful enough and we've regressed. I'll start watching again when we start playing as MANCHESTER UNITED which will likely be when this defensive, negative, pessimistic, divisive, out of date manager is sacked. It won't be long it now has all the hallmarks of one of his melt-down seasons..

That was really one of the worst performances i saw from United in the last 5 years. Nothing has changed since last season. In fact, looks like we've gone backwards.

On one hand, I’d also subscribe to the “It’s only the 2nd game” crowd but thinking more about it, we’ve basically continued on from the back end of last season. It’s a mostly mediocre Utd with sprinkles of good performances against the better teams in between.

Yes but he bought those 2 today. Whats to say Ald or Mcg would have made that much of a difference? Theres something really fecked up at the club

Conceded 3 against Brighton with a manager who prioritizes defending. If anyone still believes Mourinho is the right man I don't know what to think. Our club is just a brand nowadays. Football wise we are in big trouble and it starts from the owners and down. That performance showed us all how poorly managed we are and its disgusting imo. Even when we had Moyes I was never as mad and upset as I am now. City Spurs Liverpool Chelsea will comfortably finish top 4, our season is over.

Woodward the imbecile didn't want to back Mourinho this summer yet he gave him another season a season that is going to end up in a fiasco just like the season he got sacked at Chelsea last time. We struggled against Leicster at home and today we made Brighton look like Bayern Munchen. We should have brought in Poch before he signed his extension with the Spurs. Mourinho is finished, this season will be our 15-16 Chelsea season and everything is Woodward's fault.

Well I hope now we can totally appreciate the value of Smalling and Matic . Specially Smalling as these are the games where Smalling is a must . We need someone to defend the ugly balls in and win headers . We dont need a pass master from the back for these games . This match had the whole feeling of Huddersfield away from last season . Our defense getting bullied like Bailly in this game it was Lindelof in the Huddersfield one .

Also the management and players are equally at fault for this situation . I am not a Mourinho Supporter but seriously you can't blame him for Bailly brain farts or Pogba and Fred misplacing 2 yards passes . Anyways if the management has no confidence in him then they should sack him right now . It's clear there is friction in the dressing room . If they are waiting for more worse results then it might be too late later on .

So once Jose gets sacked, we'll hire a new manager who then will need another 1-2 seasons of getting 'adjusted' before he too is sacked.

Feeling so disconnected from United and all things football at the moment. Football is becoming a soulless game.

I can forgive the terrible performance but the complete lack of effort to put any pressure on Brighton in the second half was pathetic.

Not sure about playing Bailey and Lindelof together again time for Smalling to return i think. Pereira as a DM is also an experiment that won’t go anywhere.

It won’t be his last game there but Mata really shouldn’t be on the right wing again. Offers nothing just a body to fill a space.

You could have had Alderweireld, who is far better than any of your CBs, but United decided they wouldn't sell Martial to Spurs, probably because they thought it wasn't deemed befitting of an 'elite' club to give way to Spurs.

Result: Spurs get to keep a top-class CB for at least another season, helping us to play in our preferred back 3 formation (as he did against Fulham in our last match), whilst United are stuck with a bit-part player who wants out.

It was a game of moments.

Lukaku misses the chance early

Brighton score 2 of 2 cornere. 1 from a horrid back pass from Bailly.

We get one back immediately after then concede a horrible penatly which was almost saved.

Broke the teams precious spirit and played like shit the rest of the way.

On to Spurs.
Are you just watching the highlights?

The only thing I can say is that I really think we should accept that Barcelona bid for a player who is clearly not giving 100 percent

That game was horrendous. I think we have broken new ground here; we've reached the bottom of the abyss and just kept digging in. The defence seemed clueless but the midfield should share some responsibility here as well. Oh, and the attack seemed to be slower than osmosis. This is of our own doing. We were like a car whose owner parked it by the sea while he went around throwing bird treats spiked with Ex-Lax. We shouldn't be surprised we were liberally crapped upon by the seagulls.

Oh feck. Someone's in trouble.....

Doesn't look good does it? Absolutely disgraceful performance and of course you can blame the manager, tactics, both, whatever else but the "performance" from some of our players was laughable. Bailly, seriously, what the hell was that? Absolutely useless, Sunday league level performance, I always knew he was very overrated over here but man that was something else. Martial - typical nothing performance, Pogba back to his old self, Mata as expected. We had a full half to at least try and do something and all that we created was... Pogba's shot from 20 meters? Okay... If we lose against Spurs we might as well end our season now.

Think the only positive today was Shaw's performance - nothing spectacular but at least he was solid. His attempted shot that led to our first goal was brave of him, given his previous serious injury, so it was good to see. Nothing much came down his flank. Young was suspect especially in the first half and I think Brighton capitalised on his rustiness and lack of cover from Fred and Mata. I think if not for the Bailly's brainfarts, I think we might have won. Ah well. Roll on to Spurs next - did not have much hope of winning the title this season anyway.

Shambles. Don't know where to start. The most simplest things are just so hard for us to undertaken. What do these guys do in training. We are a bunch of individuals rather than a team. Bailly has always been overrated on here. The problem is all our defenders are of equal quality.

The Mourinho zealots must lay down their arms and admit he is not the answer

“I wonder who will be the next sucker sponsor to sign with us...”
Would imagine he's thinking about the flak he's going to get tomorrow from the papers after telling them Toby wasn't any better than we've already got. If he's going to make statements like that he should be at every training session first.

Sad to say, but I just wonder if last Friday against Leicester will be the last time we will be above City this entire season. Hope I'm wrong but that mess today was depressing.

I’m a patient fella, but feck me that was atrocious. How can we be down by two goals for two thirds of the game, and not manage a single shot on goal, penalty aside.

Clearly we need coaching in our offensive play because we look pathetic in attack.
We don't have an attacking plan. Therefore, the players don't know what the feck to do. It's crazy. Most of those players are capable of much much more. Jose is not earning his huge salary.

It's one loss. Some people need to chill out. Yes a shit result but a long long way to go.

Only 2 shots on target vs Brighton, no game plan, 10 kms less ran by our players. Praying to escape the implosion this season.
