A goal! A win! I'll take it, it certainly sounds better than recently but our goalscoring problems are a big concern.

Pretty conformtable stuff bar a few awkward moments. Would be nice if we could kill off games like this though... Should have done so in the first half too when we were totally dominant.

Thought McT, Martinez and Malacia were all very good.

Sancho is about as pointless barbed wire glory hole.

But there are lots of sharp points to that or so I'm told

Brentford have already won at City and drawn at Arsenal this season, only lost one of the previous 16 games (and of course not forgetting they thumped us at their place!) so any kind of win tonight is not to be sniffed at.

I do miss the days we used to ease to 3 and 4 goal wins at home though, this shit is shaving years off my life!

Everton at home Saturday is gonna be another grind again!

I mean we weren't great but to be fair we were better than I expected with Casemiro and Eriksen out. One more game till they're back.

Thought Brentford were terrible, worst I've seen them play.

Our poor away form puts so much pressure on ourselves to win at home so delighted with the 3 points.

10 games to go, 5 of them away so we have to win at least 2 on the road

Good first half, ok second

As usual with so many of our players in midfield and attack we performed really well in flashes but lacked quality at key times.

With a bit more quality we would have buried them. Hopefully we will see Martial at the weekend as Sancho/Antony arent firing and the finishing from players like Bruno/Fred is shocking at times

A good win nonetheless

Possession-play in the final third didn't look great.
I see more consistency in the improvement of playing-out from the back compared to last year but in possession in the opposition half the team struggles to consistently create good chances.
Wonder if it would improve with Casemiro + Eriksen + Martial.

Got the win we needed but it was piss poor. This team can not fecking pass. Everyone is still so static. I thought we would be more free flowing by now.....it pops up in games from time to time but we should of scored a couple of more with the possession we had,.

Just back from the game, it was an impressive performance apart from the finishing. We dominated most of it and I only remember 1 decent chance they had.
Seemed like Bruno played deeper than usual and the midfield 3 all worked well together even Mctominay had a decent game

Great response after Newcastle. Everyone played with purpose and desire. All contributed and there was no weak link.

- Martial looked sharp and I expect he'll start Saturday. This will make our offense so much better.
- Malacia was sharp.
- Best game by McT in a while.
- It was said before, McT and Bruno holding worked well.

Home is still a fortress so I expect a win on Saturday and keep the pressure on Spurs.

A win's a win I suppose. But accepting consistent mediocrity should not be acceptable. But granted, we don't have depth needed to do anything but.

Our passing was close to brilliant for a good part of the match. It was quick and got us our of trouble many times. The only thing missing was incisive passing in the attacking 3rd. Martial, hopefully, will help when he starts.

You play team sports to beat the other team. We beat the other team. That’s about all there is to take away…

3 points. All that matters. Well done. Just keep scraping the results and getting the points on board. And yes, the removal of Weghorst made us so much more mobile as a team. Hope it stays this way.

First PL win since 19 February
We’ve played only three games since due to the number of games in other competitions.

I thought our general play was really good and in line with the usual home displays under ETH (compact, front foot, pretty high press, short quick passing etc). But it was a close match as we simply don’t have the goals in us. For that much of the ball and the flow of the game we should ideally be winning 3-0. That’s something we just have to cope with during the run in and figure out how to fix for next season. Not enough goal threat.

Good game overall, had some really nice bits of play, we still lacked goals, didnt kill the game so had to fear some late bullet. But overall kept them at bay for the most part and yet again showed we can come back from bad results and that's what makes ETH different to previous managers. He stopped the slump or potential big crisis again.

Anyone have a clip of when Antony (I think ) put in a tackle near our own corner flag and we played out of the back under pressure . I think it was between 75-85mins ?
Edit
seen in another thread it was the 72th minute

Happy with the result but I’m worried about the lack of goals. Relied heavily on Rashford this season and if anything happens to him or he’s off his game (see Newcastle away) then we simply can’t score. It really could cost us top 4.

Vital 3 points, happy for that.
First half was good, dominant without creating lots of chances, good possession, Rashford scored as always to save us.
Second half we seemed nervous, dropped off a little, but finished the job at the end.

The reality is that Rashford is the only player who can finish a chance in our squad on a constant basis. Without him we wouldn't be top 8, nevermind top 4. We need to realize that we need at least 2 attacking players next season with similar goal involvement if we are to compete.

This was all about the results - especially with the form the 2 clubs are in. Brentford in their current form are very hard to play against - and without Eriksen and Casemiro - we can't expect much more than we got last night.

Now we have a 3 point lead on Spurs with a game in hand and since they now will play Brighton and Newcastle before we play them, a win against Everton and then Forest will put us in a really good position before the Spurs-game.

5 wins and 2 draws from the last 10 should be more than enough

I just can't see:
Spurs picking up 20 points from their last 9 games
Brighton getting 24 points from their last 11 games

And yesterdays results almost guarantees that Liverpool wont reach top-4 - and if United and Newcastle win at the weekend, and Liverpool dont beat Arsenal - they are absolutely out of contention

Antony needs to realise he doesn’t have to shoot every time he gets near the box

Good first half, not so good second.

+:
3 pts
McT, Sabitzer, Bruno controlled most of the match.
Gegenpressing worked for most of the match

-
let our opponents alive
not enough chances
de Gea - one good save, but too many errors, nearly cost us 2 points!
Antony - 1 move, no brain....

OK job done, but as others have said should have had more goals, especially on first half showing.

In interesting observation, Antony had about six attempts (throughout the game) to put in his now famous curling left foot shot to the far post... his closest effort was his first one, the rest seem to go further and further away from the goal, seemingly unable to trouble the keeper and for the last one, that finished up somewhere between the end of the six yard area and the corner flag, their keeper watched it all the way. :o

Credit to the lad he kept on trying and looking more and more upset and suitably embarrassed ... perhaps I'm warming to him after all.;)

Excellent and important result. We're running on empty, but I actually think we're going to pick up again... think all teams, inc Arsenal, are all beginning to struggle, and those with squads are managing better than others (City is all about the squad, and Arteta signing Trossard has been a critical addition).

I'm actually feeling confident, more so than I was ten days ago or so, about the final part of the season.

(and surely, one of our other attackers will notch at least a couple of goals before the end of the season? Wouldn't it be great that between Antony, Martial, Wort, and Sancho, that they could muster even eight goals or so between them before the end of the season.. that's only two each ffs....)
