Post-match discussion

Just need to play shit and win until Casemiro is back. Hopefully, we’ll still be in the mix for top4 and trophies by then. Decent performance, still awful in front of goal.

Very good result against a very difficult team to beat.

I feel like ETH set us back to basics. Our passing was much better and we kept the ball well. Not spectacular but exactly what was needed to stop a little bad patch becoming something worse.

That's a massive win.

Get the win on Saturday, don't care how we play, and we are well set for the rest of the season with Casemiro and Eriksen to return.

Still worrying that we at Old Trafford struggle to beat a team with a midfield consisting of three Dane’s of which none of them are Eriksen or Hojbjerg.
This season they beat both City and Liverpool mate.

We looked sharp and Brentford was poor.

Our midfield looked better with McT and Bruno holding, Sabitzer pressing up high.

Rashford should stay on the left, not central. But we don‘t have options: Weghorst has been poor.

Should’ve put that to bed but considering them having lost just one in their last 16, I’m happy how we controlled the whole match more or less. DDG had to make one match-winning save and we could’ve managed the last minutes smarter but overall satisfied.

Important three points. Performance was just about good enough, we controlled the game, they didn’t hurt us on too many occasions, but we perhaps didn’t do enough to engineer the 2nd goal.

Another big game coming up on Saturday. We need to keep pushing for the top 4 Place and don’t let up until our rivals are out of sight.

Our next two league games are Everton and Forest. This was a very tough week playing two sides playing for European football. Win the next two and we will be looking good. Newcastle play Tottenham after these two games too.

Where would we be without Marcus.
Was thinking exactly that. It's amazing that after spunking what, 90million on Antony and 80m on Sancho, the only certified goalscorer in our team is still the academy player that Louis van Gaal randomly chucked in along with a dozen other players and hoped for the best

An example or the value of controlling the game and keeping the ball even if it’s not always exciting. We didn’t let them get into any kind of rhythm in the first half and they struggled to string passes together on the rare occasion they had the ball. By the end of the game when they really had to chase it they didn’t have too much energy left cause they’d been chasing the ball the entire game. Not always pretty but very effective

Most important thing was the result but it's worrying how we don't generate much chances.

We need to improve a lot offensively.

Good win. Dodgy second half. De Gea with a massive save. Mctominay and Martinez (as always) were good.
seriously need midfielders and goal scorers in the summer.

Good win today.

I thought we battled hard for those 50/50 balls, which was completely non-existent in the Newcastle game, deserved 3 points, onwards and upwards.

3 points and another game closer to our central midfield being back.
This is the main thing. Everyone ignores we’re missing our first choice midfield. Most of our midfielders would probably look better next to one of eriksen and Case. But by themselves together meh

Important win but it must be some really tired legs for those who played 90 min under those conditions. Early kick off on Saturday against an Everton team with 2 days extra rest and momentum from that result against Spurs. I am sure the bookies will have us as favourites I am not so sure. A win however and I feel confident top 4 is secured.

Imo it's because our two wingers offered basically no penetration. They couldn't beat their fullbacks and Sancho didn't even cut inside, run channels, cross or shoot. He receive the ball then just pass it back to the one next to him. I don't mind if he fails but he doesn't even try. At this moment tbh sound crazy but I'd have James, yes Daniel fecking James back over Sancho. At least he's fast can run all day and could beat a defender once in a while.

As expected, got the job done professionally. Brentford were shite. Never looked like scoring.

First half ok, second half woeful but just did enough. Antony needs to occasionally try a pass or cross instead of shanking it into orbit for the sixteenth time. Rashford needs to concentrate and look arsed for 90 mins (pulling up his socks and looking down at his feet instead of actually trying to get on the end of that cross near the end really fecked me off). McTominay, Malacia, Sabitzer all need to learn how to switch play instead of playing it slowly across the pitch and/or losing the ball.

How it always seemed to be Sabitzer and Antony taking shots instead of our best finishers, Bruno and Sancho, I will never understand. Our decision making is very odd at times.

Nonetheless, much better than the omnishambles against Newcastle, was pleased with Varane, Sabitzer and Sancho's performances, happy that Rashford got a goal and, despite admittedly feck all effort from Brentford for most of the match to score a goal, pleased with the clean sheet.

If this team had a Carrick or Scholes type in midfield who could keep hold of the ball and ease the pressure on us in tight games we'd be set.

First half good

Second half was bizarre. We were in almost complete control, but seemed to have next to no desire to actually score a second goal. Instead we did that thing where we started playing like we were already 4 up against 10 men for the entire last half hour, just jogging about, passing it around the box like a training exercise...all whilst the team we're level on points with scored 5.

Just a bafflingly weird collection of players who continue to do weird things even when we win.

This has been a problem for years at this club even with a different set of players at previous times. It just feels like the team is usually content doing the bare minimum and just plays very lazily once they feel the job is done.

Very happy that ETH dropped Wout. Next he needs to drop Antony.

Rashford was so involved in the game.
Defense was outstanding. We just need to be more clinical.

Good win and we get one of the two victories we need in this run of 3 games to start us on a track of 2/3 wins in these 12 remaining PL after the international break which would guarantee top 4

Job done, professional performance & a well needed bounce back from the weekend against a team who are generally tough to break down.

One criticism was not converting chances, probably should have been out of sight.

Onto Saturday now, another tough game

What was this worldie save from ddg?
Just watched highlights on sky and there wasn’t a great save there?

Special mention for how well Wout sat on the bench. Think we may just have found his best position tonight. 10/10 for me.
