PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 3:2 Arsenal

Post-match discussion

Sun, 28 February 2016

Great game, youngsters are playing like they do in the under 21's, rather than the more rigid style of the first team.

And that is probably the difference this week.

Also, liverpool have been mignolet'd, so the day is almost perfect.

First match I've watched in a long time that I didn't start doing something else out of boredom and disinterest. Too little too late for LVG though, even with the inspirational sideline antics, I'll be glad to see the back of him this summer.

Was great seeing the kids seize their opportunity. Rashford's goals were special and Depay looks like he may actually have a future after picking himself up against lower tier competition, he's finally carried it over against much better opposition.

I have to ask this question? We have been very un Van Gaal like in recent games. Quicker tempo, forward passing, more one on ones, full back pushing higher etc....has the philospher ditched his merhods?

He was asked post match and he's said the same thing he has in the past, players dared to play and we moved the ball quicker and switched quicker. It's what he wants. Which I can believe because no one really wants to just move the ball around slowly as we have so often - so a lot of it has been down to the attitude of the players on the field.

Obviously he is picking the team each week and if he is picking the players who can't carry out his instructions, then perhaps should have looked to be stronger in making the hard calls. Have to say though but, having players that can drive at players, run the channels and generally make things happen is a big thing. Earlier in the season when Mata was on the right and then players like Memphis were really struggling on the left causing Martial to move out there and then a slower Rooney up top has meant we just didn't have enough to really threaten teams.

Just hope the players continue to be horny and dare to play as they have - can really finish off the season strong.

No idea why it took this long for us to go with a Schneiderlin - Herrera midfield.

Just like last season it'd taken Louis until March to trust Ander at #8. F-know knows why.

3 pts... Defeat Arsenal with a bunch of kids.. LvG takes the plunge.. Screw up Arsenal's title bid.
Priceless...:lol::lol::lol::lol:

As an outsider looking in here I'll say that was one of, if not my favourite, game of the season.

It was a real advertisement of how great having youth players in your team really is.

The problem with football nowadays is that teams don't have an identity, it's just a name and a badge with a completely random set of players with no affiliation to the club they're representing. It must've felt great today to be supporting a team full of lads your club are actually responsible for nurturing.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but football would be much better if every team was full of academy products.

On TV in the US the announcer stated Rooney scored his first EPL goal at 18 years and 120 days, and that Rashford scored his first EPL goal at 18 years and 120 days.

I hate to be negative but on another note I guess Mata gets the AM role till the rest of the season. Just another long list of mistakes from LvG that gets corrected with injuries. The whole Mata on the left just deprived our attack with pace. Add Rooney as striker and it was even worse. Not sure why LvG didn't see this as a problem long ago.
Wayne scored his first goal at 16. They were showing first match with 2+ goals.

Easily the best game of the season.

Cant stop smiling when I think about the game, still buzzing. Just brilliant entertainment, felt like the old days.

Really enjoyed that win and the kids were great

Interesting that the significant mistakes were made by more established players

What a beast Fosu-Mensa is!

I probably know him a bit longer than you.

Yeah, for sure.

Expalin this: Van Gaal has been working with a certain group of players for nearly two years. The only thing he has achieved is gradual decline in quality of "perfomances. Now injuries force his hand and he needs to play young lands from U21, players whom he hardly trained. The result is that they run, pass forward, take risks, dribble etc.

Say what you want but the only.credit Van Gaal can take is.for no messing around with someone elses work.

Genuinely surprised by that result, thought we did really well, specially Rashford, Varela and Schneiderlin. But not sure How Arsenal were so bad.

Rashford offering everything Rooney cant, and that we need in a Striker, pace, running, tidy feet and clinical finishing.

Ozil, Sanchez, Ramsey, Walcott etc need to have a look at themselves though, that was an awful display from them, allowing Schneiderlin to boss that midfield pretty much on his own while Herrera got forward.

Thought Memphis did alrright today too, nothing major and Bellerin kept him from doing too much, but hopefully he's gaining confidence and against less pacey fullbacks he'll be able to replicate some of what Martial has been doign for us out on the left, Allowing Martial to come into the middle.

Lets put it this way, im restarting my fifa 16 save, and just playing the kids (after bumping their stats up a bit)

Have no idea where that performance came from, but that's the first time this season where I felt the team were unified in their goal to win the game at all costs. Every single United player from De Gea through to Rashford gave it 101% and they got what they deserved in the end. They gave us everything we have been crying out for all season; Passion, commitment, quick passing, pacy counter attacks and we even got a memorable dive from Louis to top it off.

I hope and pray this continues for the remainder of the season. My fragile heart could not bare another false dawn.

Yeah, for sure.

No, that's not what has happened. What happened was that first he couldn't get them to move the ball around faster to create enough chances, and when he managed that, he failed to have them continue like that in the next match, and he failed in having them kill off games.

Now injuries force his hand and he needs to play young lands from U21,
No, an exceptional number of injuries forces him to play more young lads from U21 than he planned.

Yeah, right. If it was not for him, the group of kids would have played like a group of kids, intimidated by the occassion, uncertain what to do and not to do, overwhelmed by the pace of the game, panic under pressure, chaotic in the organization etc...

This was just Arsenal, LvG has had bigger achievements with a bunch of kids than this. I can't remember the academy having a simular achievement or even anything remotely close without Van Gaal. The man knows how to take a few kids from an academy and have them perform well. That can't be done by the coaches at the academy.

Where are the Arsenal TV videos.. They are going to be comedy gold

Anyone knows where to look and dl full our game today vs Arsenal (both with sky and US commentary)?

Just watching the post-match from Sky now... Souness is tearing into Arsenal  Called them a joke and unnacceptable. Fantastic.

& let’s not forget the football we play is mostly garbage. The idea we’re buccaneering-but-troubled artistes is gone. Largely shit to watch.

Not just on the field that #afc lack leaders. Board-room too. Nobody has the power, personality or willingness to call Wenger to account.

Arsenals major faliure in recent years is not investing in LEADERS. People that grasp the moment, that set the right tone at the given moment

What a fantastic win, this has got to go down as one of our best ever victories against Arsenal. I don't think anyone gave us a chance before the start of the match (I didn't). I'm so proud of the team and the young players out there today, they played with more passion and enthusiasm than most the senior players have this season.

sweating bullets during that one. Go up by two twice just to fairly quickly have it shaved back down to one. Thought we would find a way to draw it. Excited about the youth in this squad. The lads filling in at fullback are all doing well. Rashford is flying. What to do when we get some of these players back from injury? Martial I would immediately put back in as well as Smalling. Shaw too. After that, it would be difficult.
