He was the man for the job after Sir Alex retired and he is arguably the best manager in the world right now, so it's a resounding yes. Minus the ability to nurture and develop young talent - something we are hardly renowned for nowadays anyway - he ticks all the boxes required to be a manager here, so I don't see us finding someone more suitable.

He's a serial winner who is proven in all the major leagues bar the Bundesliga and has the personality and character to take on a job of this magnitude. People might not be enamoured by the style of football we would see from him and his approach in certain games, but we would get results which matter above all. Plus, our current manager is the one who set the blueprint for one of the greatest club sides ever playing a spectacular brand of football, but his Manchester United side are just as dour and abject as some of the United teams that preceded his (even Moyes' isn't much worse). Even under Mourinho I can't imagine us being as boring as what we've witnessed the last few years including SAF's final year.

What really frustrates me, is if we made the right appointment with him instead of Moyes where we would be now. I think we'd be in a similar position to Chelsea, perhaps now quite as good.

It is extremely frustrating. Mourinho would have really made the team his own and we would most certainly be in a better position than we are now. He was the the only suitable replacement to succeed Fergie.

Absolute no brainer. Of course the ship has now sailed, in the sense that he just wouldn't ever join United having done the whole second coming thing at Chelsea...but the guy is a class manager and wherever he is, he will win things.

I like the industrious efficient sides he puts together. It's usually a transfer-based thing, but there is always that perfect balance of athleticism and footballing ability to really make the difference. Selling Luiz, Mata and Lukaku and bringing in Fabregas, Matic and Costa over the last year has made them a completely different animal, and when they click, it is pretty devastating.

Fair enough. But in the grander scheme of things, it only works if these players have the requisite qualities to succeed. Playing them just for the sake of reinforcing some remote moralistic notions serves no purpose from a broader perspective.

I was being sarcastic as I hate how the word gets used around here. I agree with you.

Strange time to bump, but to answer the question..
Without a shadow of a doubt I'd take Mourinho here.

Mourinho at United and United with Mourinho would be next great United era.

Only MU can satisfy JM. His 2nd spell at Chelski is once again only temporary - I think we all know this.

I'm still so annoyed we didn't get him when fergie retired, he was the ONLY manager capable of stepping in SAF shoes. If we got him in we would be sat here now challenging for every trophy possible and more than likely succeeding.

So thanks to taking the cheap option with moyes and also LVG we've been put back 3 or 4 years and I don't believe LVG has what it takes to get us back to the top

I still remember reading loads of people saying that he would "Only guarantee trophies for a few years", as if Moyes was a guarantee of long lasting success.

Pure madness. Whatever Mourinho has said since, he wanted this job, and he's the only one with the ego huge enough to think he could have actually bettered Fergie!

Really? I think he's settling in for a long period of domination now..

Knee-jerk of the month-We should go for Blanc.

Seriously it will be interested to see how he does now he has got to the Q/Fs.

Last time I checked, I think they were 3rd in the league. They did well in both games against Chelsea, but not sure how they're screwing it up in France.

Yes, mainly because i think his connections and the mourinho factor would help us rebuild the squad with the best players available. i dont really trust van gaal to rebuild the squad.

IIRC, a good majority of PSG fans have wanted him out as they have been somewhere between poor and average for most of the season. What they did on Wednesday was excellent, but he hasn't really been convincing.

No thanks. Im desperate for our club to get back to where it belongs but not THAT desperate. Lets give it a few more years, if all else fails..

He was the one I wanted when Ferguson left and I see no reason to change my mind now. Yeah, he can be a bell-end, a drama queen, and all that other stuff, but he would have gone the right way about setting up United for the future, just as he has with Chelsea.

Two years ago - Hell YEAH.
Last year - YES! NOW!
Now - Nah. I think we'd be better off with someone else.

Even if we finish outside the top 4, I wouldn't take Mourinho. Like someone said above, I am not THAT desperate just yet. Of course, he would guarantee a trophy or two over the three year period he'll be with us but that's not enough for me to take his small club mentality. All his teams play like his old Porto or Atlético Madrid which is fair enough for those two as they couldn't compete financially. But for a top team with our status, we shouldn't be satisfied with the cowardish way his teams approach every single big game they play in. I am not even talking about attacking football here, just football that is known for being "solid" and "resilient" which is pretty much what his Chelsea team is known for. For a club with our status, I feel we as fans have the right to expect better.

I would have said 'yes' a couple of years ago, when he was so diplomatic after Madrid knocked us out when Nani got sent off. That post-match speech was basically a job application. If he had demonstrated that he had changed his attitude I would take him here in a heartbeat.
This season, we've seen that he started off all smiles, but when things get serious he reverts to type - i.e a complete wanker. Conspiracy against Chelsea etc, whinging at everything - he is the same person who retired that referee and poked the Barca boss in the eye and he's not going to change.
I want to win, but I don't want it bad enough to stoop to his level.
Some might say that Fergie did similar things and perhaps he did, but he was a lot more subtle about it.

I think he's too pragmatic to manage Man United. We're a club who values beautiful football and not the win-at-any-cost football that Mourinho prefers.

We should hire him to take control of our social media accounts.

Yep, and we've proved with the last two appointments how good we are at selecting managers who can give us this beautiful football.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Why would anyone say no? If he was offered the job it implies we don't have a manager, and who else could we realistically get who is as good? This guy is the best in the world along with Pep ffs.

Moyes was obviously a stupid decision. Give van Gaal some time. His idea of football and his philosophy is interesting, and I think it'll be a joy to watch in a year or two, when the style is settled and we've improved our squad.
