Which striker should we buy ?

I really really hope we don't get Cavani. He's 29 soon, on huge wages and very expensive. It doesn't make sense at all.

Lacazette or wait until a striker emerges.

Cant believe Benteke is ahead of Higuain in the poll, what are folk smoking on here......

Cavani or Lacazette.

I really wish we took a punt on Vietto though.

A dream would be Lewa.

I don't rate Chich that much anymore, don't think he does enough in the game.

Aleksander Mitrovic anyone?

6ft 2. 20. Goal scorer of all varieties. Great potential.

Surely we should be looking at him rather than letting Newcastle but him for £12-15m and cost us double in 2 years.

Can sit on the bench without qualms and be glad of the opportunities that fall his way for 18 months minimum.

Just noticed Sky Sports have a piece on him... Slightly odd choice of photograph with his tongue between his fingers... Maybe it means something else in Belgium

Given that LvG spoke about only wanting to add players that improve the team I am guessing he is not just after a squad forward, but a player capable of pushing any currently perceived starter out of their spot.

Could be that people think Benteke is more obtainable. Given a choice with no catches or additional spending, I'd definitely take Higuain here.

Whats the point in spending big on a backup striker?

Rooney, Hernandez & Wilson are fine. Rather not spend 35+ Million on someone who won't play most games.

‘We have Chicharito, maybe Wilson and maybe there comes a surprise. We still have Rooney and he can play in the strikers’ position. All the media last year wrote he has to play there and I listen to the media!’ (Louis Van Gaal, Metro, 18 July 2015, link).

Based on this, it seems like the big question mark in Van Gaal's mind is around Wilson not Hernandez. Van Gaal's clear 'we have Chicharito' but says 'maybe Wilson'. From this quote it seems that Rooney will be the first choice striker, but the 'maybe Wilson' may point to Wilson being loaned out and another forward coming in.

Seems like we have been briefing the usual suspects about our intentions of only buying a new striker if its the likes of Cavani or Lewandowski, LvG is happy with Rooney as first choice and Hernandez will be given a chance.
Pedro will add to our attacking options on the wings, but can also play in the striker position.

I'm a big fan of Berahino personally, and think he's a bigger talent than Kane. He has the arrogance to me it to the top too. He has everything in his game to be a top modern forward. Strong, fast, dribbling and a good finisher with either foot.

err except goals?

Logically speaking, that does seem to make the most sense. Rather then buying a Cavani/Kane/Lewandowski etc etc who can only/will only want to play as central striker, bring in a player who can play multiple roles and get plenty of game time.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear but I can't argue with the logic, I think we need to upgrade on Rooney but the options to do that are simply out of reach, and no, I don't think Kane or one of these early 20's strikers are the guy, not yet. I would have liked Lacazette as he's versatile, but I am glad to see we might improve the right side of the front 3 with Pedro, so we would at least be adding some fresh firepower.

1. Bale/Ronaldo
2. Lewandowski/Benzema
3. Lacazette

If you cannot manage to sign these then dont bother and stick with rooney.

And if people suggest any striker with the playstyle of a target man then you are out of your mind.

There's an article on ESPN (link) saying "sources" tell them it's unlikely that we bring in a striker. If it's true that we're not bringing anyone in, then Rooney and Hernandez really need to stay fit and be on their game.

Depay can play centrally. Plus am hoping Wilson makes a step up if given the opportunity too. So honestly, am ok with us not getting a striker.

I hope we get a defender though.

voted bring back Chicharito weeks ago. I still think that's how we should move forward.

Looking more likely that he will go with Rooney ,Depay and Hernandez . A goalkeeper and a center back and that should be that.

if we could get Muller id go all in for him, if not give Hernandez another shot but if we end up selling him i wouldn't mind seeing Fellaini upfront on his own (in the absence of Rooney).

happy-----------------------decent--------------------okay
1. Muller--------------------1. Rooney----------------1. Rooney
2. Rooney-------------------2. Hernandez------------2. Fellaini
3. Wilson--------------------3. Wilson----------------3. Wilson

Looks like that will happen regardless. Seemed like LVG was suggesting that it was Wilson that was in danger of moved on (loan probably) in his interview over the weekend.

It's all contextual. He is what, 20, and has gotten about 15 league goals in his last two seasons. Kane got 21 for a better side. Rooney got 12. It';s clear that he can finish.

Probably the sensible thing to do, to be honest. Provided the team is playing well then the goals should be spread across the team. If Pedro were to arrive then he, Rooney and Depay are certainly capable of hitting the net consistently, which is what the intended 433 will require.

That would be one step forward, two steps back for MUFC.

And if Rooney were to pick up a long term injury? We need someone of a similar stature to Rooney, not just a back-up who might be thrown in as the only other choice.
The problem with that is the need to pay someone Rooney like to sit on the bench and be happy. It's why clubs with a one striker system usually don't have someone of similar statute as the back up striker. What you need is proper goal scoring wide men that will help out with goals even when main striker is out. This is why I suspect van gaal is after a Pedro style winger. He already brought in depay who definitely fits the category.

Chelsea never had a back up striker anywhere close to Costa level. City don't have anyone close to Aguero, Arsenal have Welbeck Lolz, real Madrid had ironically Hernandez, and Pedro was barcas.

If you want 2 world class out and out strikers play a 2 striker system. Benching one always gonna cause issues in my opinion

We dont need a striker of similar stature as @ChaddyP said, we need a backup striker and Chicharito would be good for that role, if we'll make chances he'll bury them, he was always good in that department.

I think what some are worried about is the type of striker Hernandez is. In the lone striker role your hold up play must be good and that's an aspect he has always struggled with, so if he had to start games for a couple of months our attack could be in trouble.

Didnt Levy say he won't sell Kane or Lloris? Buying from Spurs is like sex with a proctology exam thrown in, just to ruin the whole thing.

You never know... Woody might like that kinda thing.

Our wide forwards will need to score a lot of goals if we aren't bringing anyone in. No wonder we are in for Pedro.

I agree, especially in a 4-3-3 the front 3 must all produce goals.

It's a goal scoring unit-

2014/15 Season:
Messi(58) Neymar(39) Suarez(25)
Ronaldo(60) Benzema(21) Bale(15)
Robben(19) Lowendowski(25) Muller(21)

Is Morata considered important at Juvetnus? They seem like a club not very unwilling to sell in general.

Lots of choices.Adnan maybe being the latest.Just don't see the club getting in another striker.
