We need a proper striker. Rooney is dropping way to deep. I think the stats last night showed he only had one touch with the ball in the oppositions box. Also from what I saw last night we need more runners getting in behind. Are we too afraid to lose the ball nowadays?

I think we were wrong to let RVP leave, there is still one more left in him.

I understood why we moved him on but with the assumption we had a replacement lined up, I don't think we will sign a striker, it's a huge gamble and keeping RVP for one more year would have been better than our current options.

Rooney looks to have lost any spark he had left in him. Gone is the sharpness, commitment and drive. He looks half assed.

If we go into the season with Rooney as our only striking option with Chicarito as back up, the best we can hope for is top 4.

We need to sign a world class striker to replace rooney if we are brutally honest.

He isnt in the top tier of players, and hasn't been for a long time.

I think Ibra would do fantastic in our current system.
He would, but it's useless as he'd never come with LvG on board.

Otherwise

----Depay--------Ibra------------Pedro
-----------------Mata----------------
--Schweinsteiger---Schneiderlin/Herrera

gives us probably the best front 6 in Prem.

to be brutally honest it's only 2 games in the season. Rooney has time to get in form.

No we weren't, that's this type of thinking that put us in our current situation, RVP is past it. I like Rooney but when SAF tried to get rid of him I was on board not because I thought he wasn't good enough but because our attack needed some refreshing, some new faces. We still need that new face upfront.

I don't think Rooney is past it, just out of form. It's not the first time and regardless of age. He tends to have those moments and he doesn't look good then.

Although I'd certainly welcome some competition for his spot.

I agree, I don't think he is past it, I'm just saying that we need to freshen up our center forward options.

To say he's past it might be a bit extreme, but can we really afford to play basically a man down till he finds his form again? Massive and costly risk potentially.

The problem is that Rooney regains his form by playing, the more you play him, the better he is. If you stop playing him you better sell him.

Trouble is, Rooney seems undroppable for LvG. Even if we get a new player in he'll probably be used on a different place and having him on the wing may be even worse.

I think people are a bit extreme of his performance last night. Yeah he was pretty poor but I've seen a lot worse of out of form Rooney.

I still don't see where people think he will get all these goals from. We need to just buy Kane. Higuain would be a decent stop gap but not long term.

The United forward line seems so lethargic these days, but i fear even if you put Ronaldo or Messi in the team it would still somehow be inept.

A target man would help or just some hold up play.

But it should be competition for Rooney's place and not as a partner.

He has ben out of form for the last 8 months then. And before it, he still wasn't near as good as before.

Not many United-worthy strikers available unfortunately. If Aubameyang continues to progress this season he might be an interesting target in the summer of 2016.

Lukaku is basically showing us exactly what we're missing currently in his display for Everton against Southampton.

He looks great, does he have a release clause I wonder?

I'm all for Lukaku, would make us formidable with his pace and power.

Wasnt Lukaku not pretty poor last season and last week?

He's patchy yes, basically today was the kind of performance that is a window into what he could be, but he needs to actually produce that week in and week out across the season.

I am starting to wonder if United will struggle to sign a top class striker under van Gaal. The way he has strikers play and the lack of creativity are big detractors. United is a massive club and all, but those things may make it hard when other top clubs are in for the same guy.

Find a striker who will fit that setup, win-win really.

I actually read the options on the poll and am quite happy we got none of them (bar Lacazette whom I haven't seen enough to have an opinion on).

We do need goals. I'm not at all bothered about the Ramos/Otamendi meltdowns, but we have a serious lack of pace, creativity and firepower.

Kind of wish wed bought Benteke now... We need a striker big time.

I keep thinking about the lesser European clubs and been trying to think of a few names here's what I came up with who are gettable

Austin - be a good backup
Greizeman - could play in multiple positions and has slot of pace.
Icardi - crazy bastard and a risk but talented and young

And the usual suspects like Berahino, Kane etc. There really isn't much about.

Would like Icardi as he is a very good prospect, but he has recently signed a new contract. Not that would deter us if we wanted him but with the window closing soon it leaves Inter little time for replacing unless Hernandez goes in the opposite direction.
Greizeman would be the dream, as you said he plays anywhere across the front and has a lot of pace and creativity.
I like Austin and you don't score 18 goals for a poor side like QPR and not have something good about you. Hes proven in the Premiership and wouldn't cost a fortune, good target man who can hold the ball up for other players to join in and I would be comfortable with him as back up.

We're gonna end up seeing Fellaini up top for a couple of games this season unless we get someone in... a frankly terrifying prospect.

I didn't particularly give a shit when we sold Van Persie but I expected at least one recognised forward to come in. We're going into a season (with added CL football this time round) with a pair of strikers who, between them, haven't had a decent goalscoring season in years. Madness.

We need someone, not seen Hernandez play uptop alone before (maybe for mexico) he dosent strike me as lone forward he's more of an off the shoulder partner striker.

I'd like to see him get a run out against brugge tomorrow anyway to see what he's got in the locker.
