[Poll] We desperately need a striker

Which striker should we buy ?

I would be content to let Wilson and Januzaj get their chances.

We always have Depay, Mata, Fellaini or Pereira as back up :).

Rooney, Memphis, Wilson, Januzaj, Fellaini, Pereira and Hernandez are all viable options for the two central attacking positions so I don't think we need to add another central forward. A centre back and a wide forward and we are good to go.

Rooney,Memphis,Wilson, Lindgard, Januzaj.

Pedro?

think Chicho will be sold.

Enough to win the league and compete Cups and Champions league?

I'm not so sure unless James Wilson shows a lot more than last year and Memphis is converted in a striker from the off which would be bold, even though this could be a route for him in the future.

Personally think LVG will try to pull something out the bag on the striker front, as it'd be odd for him to go from clearly wanting multiple strikers one season to wanting minimal numbers.

Griezmann is the obvious choice for me. Quality player and had a fantastic season for AM last year.

We don't need more than a decent backup striker, if at all.
Rooney's got a fairly consistent average of ~31 league games per season. Assuming we play 4-3-3, we can't sign a world class striker and only play them a handful of times in the league.

Ideally, we'd have a quality youth player as backup to bring through as Rooney gets older. Hopefully Wilson.

We need to replace Rooney but that is going to take another season at least, so for now I'd be happy to continue the experiment with Januzaj.

I think Chicha can be the back-up to Rooney. He does guarantee goals, speed and movement.
We have one no.9 position and 3 attacking positions who will play behind the no.9. Following are our options for the same:
No.9: Rooney, Chicha, Wilson
Three attacking positions: Mata, Depay, Young, Fellaini, Januzaj, Pereira and DI_MARIA_Replacement.

This is enough.

I know that although Chicha's build play has improved, there is still work to be done. But I feel that if there is balance and ability in the rest of the squad, one focus on Chicha's other positives in a game.
I wanted us to sign a striker, but I really can't think of a quality player who will be happy to be 1st back-up.
Also, coming from the bench, when we are chasing for a goal, Chicha is a gem.

Our second choice front six will look like this:

-----------------chicha----------------
young--------fellaini/pereira------adnan
---------morgan/ander-----carrick------

It's not bad for a carling cup match or a dead rubber UCL group stage match.

Why not consider Charlie Austin. He is big and robust and proven goal scorer and affordable.
He will be willing to come to United even he will not get permanent playing time.
The rest of the European team will not know how to play him.

Most importantly he has tattoos and a beard, so he ticks all the necessary boxes.

I'm very surprised no other team seems to be getting him. The alleged £15m asking price might be a bit much for the lower teams but surely someone who scored 18 PL goals last season would gain more interest?

So looks like we will not be getting a brand new shiny striker. Hard to imagine anyone selling us a forward of some repute now.

Have we ever gone into a season without a number 9?

I feel Pedro might get the number 9 if he arrives and become our unorthodox striker like how Sanchez is for Barcelona and now for Arsenal. Among Depay, Rooney and Pedro their is/should be a lot of goals among that front three.

Pedro for President. All our wildest dreams will come true. If he does have a Sanchez like effect on the league, would be outstanding. Come to think of it, wonder why Barca preferred to keep him instead of Sanchez...did the player press for a move?

Yea, Sanchez wanted to have more of a role in the Barcelona team, as such he left for Arsenal.

He said two players.

Hinting at GK and Pedro. So big mistake not getting a CB in.
Thanks for the headsup have to find a river showing the interview should be a good watch. DDG must be on his way to Madrid then, hope we go for Lloris as the new keeper. Apparently he has an agreement to go to a champions league club for 25m euros?? Could be just tabloid talk but if its true then get him signed and bring Pedro in and I would be happy with the squad for the season.

But I think we can assume with the Ramos De Gea stand off we are actually trying and have been trying for a top CB? And that saga is yet to end has Ramos signed on yet. So if not, abit like De Gea, are you not starting to think he wont be signing? I mean by now its unlikely he will rinse more out of them or get more assurances.....And if Ramos does stay we might then turn to another. Basically for all the talk of our back line being awful we were plagued by injuries more than anything back there. We now have a recognised right back. We have Shaw who will presumably show better form this season. Thats 2 massive upgrades. We have Smalling who showed more of what we bought last season. Players can kick on unexpectedly just like one tues night John Terrys legs will go from no where and he'll look a shadow of himself almost overnight. It happens.

If reports are true that Arsenal might be getting Benzema then why are we not interested in him ourselves?? He would be an upgrade on Rooney.

He'd also be good for Chelsea and man City....Mourinho managed him as well....we were linked with 80+ players this summer according to the Times....

We should've just signed benteke and we would be in a much better shape than we are.

Yes he was pricy but worth it because of his goalscoring ability and the fact he's young and can get better

Yeah, I'm starting to think along these lines as well. We probably don't need that top hitman but just somebody to compliment what we have. Berahino with pace and power would be a decent shout. Chelsea have Remy, City have Bony as Aguero's insurance policy.

More important is we change our style of play, that actually creates something for strikers, you can have a good striker, but if our only means of creation is from wings, by crossing, o a lone striker whos marked all time, your not going to score much

Pay Griezmann's release. We are lacking pace and creativity, he can also play up upfront.

Also stick Depay on the wing

Proper wingers are way more important. Good stuff we gave Nani away for almost nothing.

I would gladly have United pay over the odds to sign a quality striker right now. What happened to the Müller rumors? Or perhaps we can get Benzema or Kane for an extraordinarily figure. Heck, I would gladly take Welbeck back from Arsenal right now.

Should do all we can to get Higuain. We need to give Rooney some competition because he's not looking good at all. Don't think Chicharito is a good fit as the lone striker. Higuain is proven in the role & would probably be a good fit.

Like I said before. If the fee is decent then we should move for Cavani.

Unless they've made a professional career out of making goals out of stone cold nothing then I don't really see the point in a new striker. For posterity though, would love it to be Kane.

Rooney didn't even contribute to any build up...he couldn't even control the ball today so there is a point for a new striker

Aubameyang might be an interesting target if he continues to progress his 14/15 form into this season. Age, pace, length, he has all the physical attributes to make it as a top striker.

So who is left for us to get now?

Won't happen:

Lacazette - Signed new contract
Cavani - Staying at PSG
Benzema - Not gonna happen
Muller/Lewandowski - Not gonna happen
Kane - They won't sell him with both Soldado and Adebayor going, simple as that.

Available:

Higuain - Will be very pricey to get and has a renome of bottling in important games, will get us alot of goals though.
Berahino - More of a poacher, won't add much to play but pace, probably better than Rooney though.
Austin - Meh.

Which other strikers is there available and who have the quality to play for us?

Lacazette could still move, it would just be for a bigger fee. Lyon sell when the price is right.

As for other strikers, I'd add Griezmann and while Icardi doesn't do enough outside of scoring for me, if he has another good season and Inter remain outside the CL places, I would think he might move.
