He looks a broken man. Regardless where he ends up next, it will be interesting to witness if his increasingly inexplicable behaviour continues or if he's able to refocus back into something resembling Mourinho Re:2005~

I'm glad he got this out of his system now. Hopefully he will come back stronger when he manages us next season.

Say what you like about Jose as a man but as a football manager/coach there's no one as good as him when you list his achievements, especially with the teams he has won with. Guardiola comes closest but a slight question mark will always remain until he takes a more challenging job.

It is remarkable that it has taken so long for him to have a continuous period of bad form. Part of me believes its one of the reasons he has reacted so poorly to the string of results recently as all he has experienced is success. His supposed 'failures' before this season would be other manager's good seasons. I'm sure when he looks back at how he's handled the whole season from pre-season till his sacking he would be realise the number of mistakes he made and I would expect him to learn from this experience to make him a better manager.

I say all this because I would love Jose to be our next manager. He ticks most boxes we demand;

Mostly plays players in their right positions
Fast counter attacking football
Shows passion (Especially on the touchline :D)
Identifies and plays his strongest team regularly
He's a winner and knows what it takes to compete in the PL & CL having won them multiple times
He'd have no hesitation dropping any player hence no privileges

He of course has his negatives, many of which we are all aware of but when you judge the full package he is easily in the top 3 best options for a team like us.

I'm assuming Pep will go to City, Ancelotti to Bayern. Mourinho might be the only manager available to replace LVG that'll be of large enough profile. I don't want him though, would prefer Giggs, which I know is controversial with how much feeling there is here against Giggsy.

Klopp was in the relegation zone with Dortmund and got sacked yet we'd all have loved him here because of his previous success and his style of football.

Klopp did not get sacked. On the contrary, BVB in winter made the remarkable decision to NOT sack him despite their bizarrely bad situation midseason. The move got repaid by Klopp turning it around, leading them to EL quali and cup final, in the midst of which he announced he'd quit after the season.

I see your point though, just because a manager has bad results somewhere at some point in time doesn't mean he's a bad manager.

Why would people want him after the season he's had at Chelsea?

His football is no better than Van Gaal's. He's been poor in the CL for years now. His man management which people praise him for consists of him throwing players under the bus when the collective team isn't performing, and when he himself is a culprit of under-performing.

I fail to see any positives at this moment.

Only if we can't get pep or Carlo, yes he's a prat but I think he would win us shiny stuff

No. He is poison. I liked him at Chelsea and Inter. Since Madrid, he's been like some cartoon villain, totally blown out of proprtion. He used to appear like he was bulletproof, but he's got a lot to learn about creating a successful siege mentality. He's nowhere near as good at it as he likes to think, and it's cost him his job, and it's cost Chelsea a dignified title defence. They could get Guardiola right now, and I'd still doubt they'd qualify for the Champions League.

His Chelsea side were utterly horrible to watch in big games against good sides. They somehow snatched wins, but barely played football. As drab as United's football is, at least we try to play. The attacking is impotent a lot of the time, but there is still a commitment to getting the ball and keeping it. I don't think I could stomach watching a United side that had little interest in having the ball.

I'd rather we stick with LvG than go with Mourinho.

Why on earth would anyone now want him here?

He's just absolutely melted down! He's done for!

There are about 15 managers I would take over Mourinho right now. I don't think he's finished as a manager by a long shot, but there are better alternatives that aren't arseholes and would play better football.

The fickleness with football fans..

I wonder what this place would have been like had the same suggestion been made after Clough was sacked by Leeds.

I want mourinho for the same reason I want fast food when I am hungry. It's disgusting from my health perspective but it is sooo enticing for my tastebuds.

Unfortunately, with him comes the media circus, fueled by him. Can we deal with that?

Jose Mourinho is the favourite with some bookmakers to become the next Manchester United manager, according to reports.

The Portuguese was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge on Thursday after his Chelsea side mounted the worst title defence in Premier League history.

Attentions will quickly turn to Mourinho’s next destination, and according to some bookmakers, Old Trafford is the frontrunner.

The 52-year-old is 2/1 to replace Louis van Gaal with BetVictor, while PaddyPower have installed him as the 6/5 favourite to be the next man in the Old Trafford hot seat.

Van Gaal’s current contract isn’t set to expire until 2017, but these developments may speed up his departure…

And, just like José's management, it always ends up in the toilet.

Why is everyone saying they don't want him? After a third of a bad season? He won the league last year.

Mourinho has been one of the best managers in modern football and I'd take him, without a doubt. Not if Pep is available though.

Many hate his personality, his arrogance.

Obviously he has gone though a very bad time when nothing has gone his way. He simply has to be among the top 3 managers in the world if not the very best. I'm certain he will be a success with us. But I doubt he will be here for ages. Mind you none of them will be these days.

Personally I don't particular like his style of football.

But we could do a lot worse and he will be a vast improvement over van Gaal.

Tagging @RedSky for bit in bold.

With Mourinho, he has his favourites. He's played Ivanovic at pretty much every opportunity despite him being a liability and he's played Fabregas a lot despite him being poor too.

Football they've played this season has been worse than ours.

Playing his strongest team regularly and rotating less than even van Gaal does isn't much of a positive with the number of injuries we have, and he won't give the youth a chance so we'll see them demand to leave like what is going on with Charly Musonda Jr.

He'd encourage our players to waste time, and actively look to settle for draws in games like when Chelsea visited us in the Moyes season.

Has no problem with keeping some of the deadwood either (like Mikel) and has sold some of their better players to rivals/other PL teams.

No guarantee that he'd turn things around here either, and with our players showing that they're more than happy to switch off and not play to their best when it suits them, things'd turn ugly again when he inevitably falls out with the players.

Which manager at Chelsea in the last 10 years has given youth a chance?

Also maybe it's hard to offload Mikel. Perhaps no club wants to pay him what he earns at Chelsea. He's been there nearly 10 years too.

He's had a bad four months doesn't mean all the last 10 plus years go ignored.

I was a big supporter of Jose before David Moyes took over. No chance would I want him near us anymore. He's as stubborn as Van Gaal if not more so and yet he brings so much unwanted baggage nowadays. His man crush for Ivanovic has been shocking, he did finally wake up to Fabregas but too little too late.

The bottom-line is, if Pep lands up in City, and Carlo goes to Munich, who else can we have? Giggs?

The worse is that United will be well organised and hard to beat at OT. (This season at SB is an anomaly.)

At any rate, it wont be so boring at United. Wouldn't we want to have barbs like "specialist at failure" at the pressers? I am so sick of talks about philosophy and processes. We need more passion.

There was a time when people compared Mourinho with Fergie and argued if he had overtook Fergie in the modern game. I can't say I want him, but by god, he's a splendid manager and I will accept him with open arms if he does end up our next manager.

I don't want him for the single reason that he doesn't play the youngsters, Manchester United have always given kids a chance and it should stay like that.

Again with this nonsense.

How many Chelsea or Real Madrid managers have played kids? The only consistent performers in both those players from the last 10 years or so have been Casilas, Raul and Terry. That suggests there is a problem with the youth development at those clubs.

Actually after posting i was thinking that maybe i didn't know what i was talking about.

I should instead have said that if he is willing to give academy players a chance, i would like him here.
He is a proven winner and he plays direct football, sometimes boring but it gets him results so i wouldn't judge.

McEachran and Bertrand were given a few games but on the whole managers haven't been there long enough and in the past their youth haven't been great but in last few years they've cleaned up.

Chelsea have cleaned up at youth level. Don't think there's a big issue with developing youth, its just that they don't get played and end up getting loaned out. Would be interested in @Gol123, @duffer and possibly @khoazany's thoughts if they have any on that front.

If we don't get Pep, I'm all for him. Yes, the football is important as this season has proved but I think he would bring success and until a manager like a Giggs or long term option is ready, I would be willing to put up with just success.

With the right players though, he can produce good football.

One of their loaned out players - Andreas Christensen - has played regularly at Monchengladbach and played the full 90 minutes when they beat Bayern 3:1 a couple of weeks ago. He won the 2015 Danish talent of the year award and seems to be someone they should integrate into their first team next year but knowing Chelsea they'll end up buying another CB for £30M in the summer.

I think their decision with Christensen next summer will say a lot about whether any of their talent will be given a chance.

If attacking football was so important to Manchester United, they wouldn't have appointed David Moyes and on the evidence of the last 16 months or so they wouldn't have appointed Louis van Gaal.

Everyone who watches academy football knows that Chelsea has the best academy in the country (though Spurs and City have improved massively recently and Spurs especially are giving these lads a lot of chances).Their FA Youth Cup winning crop last year is the best crop I've ever seen at academy football (though I haven't seen Class of 92 etc due to my age). The fact that they aren't given chances (and even when they do - look at RLC) should not be used to knock against their academy at all - because there's only so much that an academy can do.

Seriously if the likes of Christensen and RLC don't make it most of their youngsters should really consider leaving the club at 18 because it's a waste for them to stay beyond that year.

The reasons have all been stated.

Dull football.

Complete neglect and disinterest in youth and young players.

A disregard for long-term planning and an over-emphasis on the here and now (and his tenure basically).

A volatile character who eventually creates a shit-storm almost anywhere he goes.
