Mendy is probably out for the season - nothing to hold back.

I'm not fussed though - they will make an announcement in due course. Just forget about Pogba until he's back.

I get what you mean but things like this are some of the reasons why fans feel detached from the club. We invest soo much in our clubs the least the club can do is to keep us updated on the matters of the club especially those that will affect what happens in the pitch.

Pogba is one of the most important player to our title charge, we can't just forget about him until he comes back.

Fair points.

What I mean about "forget about him" is just to echo Mourinho's rally cry - we can't do anything about injured players so just focus on those who are out there playing. Pogba is my favorite player, but it's no use to keep thinking "damn we should have had him playing now".

Yeah I don't understand the obsession with us needing to know. I take more of "he'll be back when he's back" type approach. Of course I want that to be sooner rather than later (provided he's healthy), but it doesn't drive me crazy not knowing. I prefer to focus on what we can do with what we have now that he's out.

I'm with you. It's of no benefit to the club to release the information, especially with big games coming up, he's a key player for us and it's best teams aren't certain how we are going to line up.

I find the bitching and whinging about United not telling the fans a bit pathetic to be honest, it's not doing anyone any harm by not knowing. There's a squad of other players to get behind in the mean time.

You think fans feel detached from the club because theyre not in the loop about player injuries?

Not sure I agree with @SirAF about that being a fair point. In the age of Twitter and Instagram fans have a ridiculous amount of insight into the goings on at the club if they are inclined to follow it. That might not give you an insight into the minutiae of a player's recovery programme but its possible Mourinho is being honest and we genuinely aren't sure when he's coming back. If he does have a good idea but thinks holding the information back from the public domain gives us some kind of advantage, surely fans can accept that?

This isnt the thread to discuss perfectly legitimate reasons why fans might be feeling detached from the club: rising prices, poor atmosphere or the excessive commercialisation of the sport for example. Some people take the view that foreigners are ruining the game, or PL clubs should give more opportunities to local talent. But not being kept in the loop on injuries strikes me as a difficult case to make.

Mourinho has classed Pogba's injury as "long term" like Rojo and Ibra. According to MEN at the press conference.

"Pogba cannot play tomorrow and it’s not an injury that I can have the hope with Valencia or Jones. Long term injuries I don’t speak about them, Ibra, Pogba and Rojo."

A month could be classed as long term though.
Is it Rojo and Ibra return dates from today? That would make sense.

Could deal with another month or so. Anything longer will be a disaster. Every season we are held back by injuries.

I'm classing long term like a Rojo and Ibra as we won't see him again till next year

That or Mourinho is trolling and he'll be fine for Liverpool.

Wishful thinking?

Duncan Castles right about this one as well then?

Why hasn’t the club clarified what’s going on? We don’t know any details about the injury apart from what we saw on the field when it happened.

It seems like a weird injury to keep him out long term. It looked as if he just over stretched his hamstring a bit, obviously it was more serious than it looked

It's obvious that Jose is keeping Pogba under tarpaulin 'til the internationals are over & Liverpool is on the horizon.

So far we haven't missed him much. Once we have our midfield sorted with our fit players I don't think he will be missed much.

Do we have any examples of him doing that since he came to United? I cant think of any but I could easily be wrong. I think its wishful thinking. As @charlenefan said, methinks itll be 2018 before we see Pogba again. Maybe December at a push.

2018? Thats a depressing thought.

I feel confident in saying that Mourinho is on a wind up. He’s blasted Smalling and Shaw for not making themselves available when he felt they were just being soft. Pogba will play the same day Jose gets him back in training. I think you can almost guarantee he’ll play some part in one of our big fixtures before Christmas. Jose’s just trying to encourage some complacency in our competitors and letting our midfielders know there’s a place up for grabs.

I'm pretty sure you'd know a bad hamstring injury straight away and wouldn't try get up and play on. I'm not convinced.

I've seen Rojo do this, continue to play and then be out for 4/5 months. I'm not saying Pogba's injury is going to be this bad but trying to play on isn't really an indicator of his injury. Think we just have to take Mourinho's words at face value.

I hope so. I am probably bracing myself for the worst so any surprise is on the upside, as opposed to expecting him back in a month and then being disappointed when he's still not reappeared at the turn of the year. I genuinely cant think of any recent (as in, since he became our manager) examples of him intentionally feeding the media misinformation. That was a SAF favourite but I just cant remember it happening recently. So if he says he's out long term I expect he is out long term, and for me long term means another two months at least. So yeah, could see him in December, but not counting on it.

I have high confidence in Matic and Herrera.

Jose will adjust the system I believe. Regardless of the formation, both Matic and Herrera will be mainly tasked with defense and winning the ball back, and Mkhi and Mata will attack more than otherwise would be the case, without having to cover for Pogba when he go forward. In this case, Mkhi and Mata need to perform to make up the creativity lost.

Oh so Jose is just setting up a smoke screen for no good reason. You are really clutching at straws here.

Mourinho setting up to come in with the 'amazing recovery' and 'trained with the first team and looked good' cliches in a couple weeks time.

Against smaller teams, he is capable of asserting such dominance that every time he's in the starting line-up im 100% confident that at the least we win the midfield battle. In some big games, he has been shockingly poor and while that may be different this season, if his injury is longer term it shouldn't define where we are come May.

Horrible news. He should have been our star man this season and we could be 2 more months (or more without him). Long term sounds like 4-5 month injury layoff. I personally am very doubtful we can win the league without Pogba for such a long timespan in which we'll be playing Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and maybe even City.

So yeah let's hope he recovers faster than expected.

he crumbles in these games, tries to do too much and we suffer for it. He's much more important against the lesser teams as he just completely dominates the midfield almost singlehandedly at times. Put players of reasonably close ability levels against him (like all chelsea, spurs and city have) and he struggles.

You're talking about a pretty small sample size of games - he was trying too hard at times last season, but sooner or later he'll get a handle on that and start delivering in the big games too I'm sure of it. You talk as though it's a problem he'll always have?

Big blow if he is injured long term. Pretty annoying we still can't get over this perennial midfield curse at our club.

Herrera and Fellaini need to roll up their sleeves and play out of their skins to make up for his absence. We lose so much flair and creativity without him.
