Gaming PlayStation 5

You can tell from the little hour count in the bottom right when the game is highlighted on the PS5 main screen. Mine are always way above actual playtime for the same reasons you gave.
Ah yes absolutely. Noticed that many a time too. Makes me feel better about myself seeing the actual playtime.

That little action snippet at the end makes me wonder what type of gameplay they're going for. One of my biggest hopes for this game is that they expand on or completely overhaul their gameplay structure without losing too much of what made their previous games so great.
That’s the most exciting part for me. It’s interesting because I felt their older stuff had just decent gameplay but I absolute adore the moment to moment mechanics of TLOU P2. So whether it’s more flamboyant, quicker etc and more complex combat, I still hope they retain and build on the enormous strides they made in gameplay in P2.

Portal arrived today. Impressed by it. Started with Forspoken on the cloud steaming service and it's alright. I know it got a bad rep but apparently it's an easy platinum and it's a fun first try on the new kit. Will move to TLOU after.

Oh nice. Didn't realise it went straight on the cloud beta. Let me know if it does turn out to be an easy Plat for you

Will do..the one thing that is a bit nitpicky for me so far is that I can't see a way of looking at trophies. I'm having to look at the app on my phone instead. They pop up when you get one but I can't see how to view them on the portal.

I'm waiting for a £150 deal...

Anyone going for Alien Rogue Incursion on PSVR2 this week? Praying it's not shit but early stuff looked promising.

Also started getting back into GT7 on PSVR in the last week or so. Still playing it with motion control on the dual sense which is fun enough but have been looking at wheels. Thrustmaster t300 rs gt is £250 at the moment. Worth it? I'd need a stand to fix it to as well I guess.

I imagine it'll come at some point. When the Beta very first released, pressing the PS button didn't do anything while playing a cloud game.

I think they just wanted to get the Beta out for the first anniversary and then will add QoL features from there.

Sony is going to become the largest shareholder in Kadokawa, which itself is the largest shareholder of Fromsoftware

Bought all of this shit today. Will update when I get round to playing on them.

From one of the comments in the tweet, the title is a bit misleading since the share is only 10%, though yes being the largest.

Wonder how much influence it will have in terms of future games being PS exclusives though.

I'm slightly worried by this. Mostly because FromSoft already make most of my favourite games over the last decade, and I feel like any change in the games arising from this will be negative. Hopefully I'm being paranoid.

If I hear Patches say "hey, doesn't that wall look funny? Why don't you try hitting it?" I'm going to be very annoyed.

Thanks @Massive Spanner and @Damien for convincing me on the Portal. It's great. I'm genuinely surprised how good a piece of kit it is
Even before the cloud stuff was added I got my money's worth out of it, but the cloud and quality of it in addition makes it well worth it.

Nothing is going to happen. Sony only have a 10% stake in Kadokawa as a whole and they'll mostly be concerned with the anime and light novel side of things.

Does the FromSoft news mean i get my Bloodborne remake soon? .... it doesn't does it!? I know it really, we all know it, but still we hope :(

Speaking of beloved games that never seem to get remakes or sequels, I finished Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver earlier and there's so much you could do with that franchise by modernizing the gameplay.

If you have the PC for it, emulation has Bloodborne running pretty well from what I understand.

Quick question, do I need my ps5 on to use the portal. I work away during the week and stay somewhere with a decent broadband connection, would be good to play ps games.

Depends what you want to play. I have been cloud streaming so no, it doesn't need to be on but you're limited to a specific number of games in the PS Plus catalogue

Doesn't make much of a difference, because if Bloodborne is ever getting a remake, it would most likely be done by Bluepoint, just like Demon's Souls. Which I still think is happening at some point, it makes too much sense not to.

Just done my PlayStation wrap for 2024 and unsurprising it’s the lowest it’s been in over a decade. Been a genuine poor year for gaming.

10 games played
187 hours played
117 trophies (1 platinum)
0 multiplayer hours (don’t really multiplayer modes, only offline story games/campaigns)

Top 5:

  1. Star Wars Outlaws (97 hours)
  2. Astro Bot (55 hours)
  3. COD: Black Ops 6 (13 hours)
  4. FC24 (9 hours)
  5. Tekken 8 (7 hours)
At least a good 40% of those hours are on the pause screen.

is outlaw any good?

Suicide squad part of the PS Plus essential games which is laughably bad.

Stanley Parable is one of the indie greats and a fine addition though.

Started It Takes Two last night with the wife. We both grew up as Nintendo gamers and were in the mood to play something together. I've got to say, I do wish that there were more quality co-op games or party style games in the vein of Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc. We stumbled on It Takes Two and we've put a few hours into it and are both having a blast with it. Fun game. Nice bit of variety to it, too.

Playing aliens dark descent. A very frustrating but surprisingly addictive game that feels like it ‘gets’ the movie, somewhat like how Alien Isolation understood the first movie.

Was thinking of getting a VR set for my PS5 but they're more than the console was, which seems absurd.

Just play the two other Hazelight games after It Takes Two, they are all gems. A new game by the studio arriving soon named Split Fiction (March i believe) as well, probably another masterpiece.

On a different note, Stanley Parable coming to PS Plus in January, thats a game I would easily recommend to anyone.

I am a ps5 owner but am going to buy a metaquest 3 rather than the psvr. Why are you going for the psvr?

Because I have GT7 and might end up with other compatible games.

I've got a metaquest, which just makes it even more bonkers to spend over £500 on the ps5 version.

My metaquest definitely wasn't in that price range.

Gt7 and the horizon game are the 2 which make me want to get the psvr2 but like you I think the price point is mental. Especially when the future doesn't look amazing for it, less upcoming games every time I look.

I'd probably get my money's worth from gt7 alone though.

GT7 is what tempts me most but I don't want to spend that amount and then after an hour be like "meh over this now" and never use it again.

My metaquest is fine but basically the only time I use it is when I'm showing it to someone else.

Have basically retired the console for 4k blu rays for evenings. As others have stated the general quality of games the last few years is diminishing.

Think the only game / publisher that can compensate overall quality with hype and general expectation is Rockstar via the new GTA. Obviously very subjective but I think unless your interested in RPG's there's nothing on the market.

Will potentially give DBZ sparking zero a try but that's about it.

Fair enough. I am going to use the MQ in my work flat, I don't have a console there so I hope to get some use out of it.

Serious question, is the console side of things as bad as made out by the gaming industry with low fps etc. I don't have any of the latest generation consoles, I have a PS4 and my daughter has a xbox one. I can't remember the last time I turned on a console.

I'm very much a pc gamer that has a console for the caravan during the summer but now I've a retro machine that doubled up as a low end gaming pc (dual boot situation). So even at the caravan I don't use the console anymore

No, but if you’re a serious PC gamer you will probably have different expectations than your average gamer like me.

Current consoles are fine, I just think the hardware isn’t really being utilised as well as it should be. We have had very little on these next gen consoles that you could consider ground breaking but I guess the same applies to PC.

PC Gaming and console gaming isn't a fair comparison.

My pc cost me over 3k whereas the new top end PS5 costs 700 so I wouldn't expect similar performance at 1440p.

But as ever there's no grey area on the net. It's either amazing or rubbish.

On the hardware side for pc. There's a lot of things to be excited about but the cost is starting to get prohibitive for a lot of people. The new 5090 is going to be some card but at 2k-3k I'm not prepared to pay that.
