Gaming PlayStation 5

Any of you PS5 nerds had an issue of random powering down? Happened to my son’s one last week. Basically powers down after 15-20 minutes use. The internet told me that it might be dust/fluff blocking vents deep inside the console. I was far too much of a pussy to take it apart myself so dropped it into a repair shop who stripped it down and cleaned it. Which fixed the issue. For 24 hours. Now whenever the console boots up it a) doesn’t turn on the blue/white LED which runs around the console edge and b) runs the fan VERY fast/loud before powering down every time he tries to run a game (doesn’t happen if just browsing around the OS) I’m obviously bringing it back to repair guy tomorrow but am a bit anxious this is terminal. Anyone gone through anything similar?
Reminds me a lot of the PS3 YLOD

How long have you had it, can you send it back to Sony?

Just straight off? No warning message?

Straight off. Fan goes super loud, then two beeps and shuts down.

When the console is functioning, is it slow/laggy at all in the menus? I'm thinking it could be the SSD itself potentially failing, which is rare but not impossible.

You could try rebuilding the database, see if it helps. "Press and hold the console's power button for seven seconds to access Safe Mode. Using the controller, select the Rebuild Database option to begin the process"..

I'm not a PS5 expert (dont have one) but it's basically filled with pc components. This does sound like over heating, it's hit the heat limit and powered off to protect you're components..

If you're out of warranty and you're confident in your ability to take thinks apart without damaging it, i would get thermal grease/compound/pads and clean out the old stuff and replace it with new stuff. Youtube is your friend here

Definitely out of warranty and have zero confidence in my ability to strip it down without wrecking it. Went back into repair shop this morning. Yer man sounded fairly confident he could sort it.

That's the best way to go, if you're not confident in it, send it to someone that knows his stuff. Good luck it's nothing major.

I had the same powering down issue but only during very processor intensive games like GOWR and Cyberpunk. Thankfully, for me it was a dust issue so I now open and clean it every few months.

Playstation wrap up.
1087 hours total.
248 trophies.
46 games played.
300 hours of Helldivers 2 and Baldurs Gate 3. (Just platinum BG3 last night!)
Cyberpunk 2077 was 3rd most played. I actually had some fun with games this year.

To my absolute shame, my most played game this year is AC: Valhalla.

1457 hours total
65 games played
1014 trophies

1. AC: Valhalla
2. Lost Judgement
3. EA PGA Tour
4. Final Fantasy XVI
5. Final Fantasy 7 Remake

To be fair. Valhalla is ridiculously long. Enjoyable to play though. The raids are fun. I've yet to play FF7 Rebirth. Getting that from santa. Well he better

36 games played
258 hours

1. Dave The Diver
2. Dead Island 2
3. Hitman
4. Rogue Legacy 2
5. Metaphor ReFantazio

Not a quality year for games imo. Metaphor would likely be higher or top as I only bought it in late Nov and just passed 35 hours.

My month breakdown is Rogue Legacy 2 in Jan, Inscryption in Feb and then no data until Sept because I just didn’t touch my PS5 at all.

22 games
737 Hours
750 Trophies

1. FF7 Rebirth - 193 Hours
2. Yakuza Like a Dragon - 93 Hours
3. Persona 3 Reload - 84 Hours
4. Hi-Fi Rush - 72 Hours
5. Hogwarts Legacy - 71 Hours

Really thought I played more than that but I guess I've played a lot of long games.

1,115 hours
100 games

  1. Cyberpunk 265 - now there’s a shock and it’s only that low because my time with it split between 2023 and 2024
  2. Returnal 81 - what a wonderful 81 hours that was
  3. Far Cry 72 - I quite liked it but this makes me suspect they count rest mode time too
  4. Gow Ragnarok 62 - all timer. I only stopped at 62 because I decided to leave content for my 2nd playthrough
I refuse to acknowledge number 4

50 Games played
632 Hours
712 Trophies (13 Platinums)
Multiplayer Hours - 3

Top 5 Games

FF 7 Rebirth - 112 hrs :o
FF 16 - 62 hrs
Ender Lillies - 34 hrs
Elden Ring (all for the DLC) 34 hrs
Secret of Mana remake - 33 hrs

Spent 93hrs on OlliOlliWorld.
29hrs on Cyberpunk
21hrs on FC25
8hrs on Stray
1hr on Disco Elysium

62 games
Most played: BG3
1, 213 hours
781 trophies, 6 platinums

Glad BG3 got my most time. Deserved.

334 hours

1. Metaphor
2. FF7 Rebirth
3. Jedi Survivor
4. Spider-Man 2
5. Astro Bot

Not an amazing year for games compared to the last few but still a few crackers in there.

Nearly half my gaming time was on the Portal, such a lifesaver of a little machine.

512 Hours
9 Games

1. Elden Ring (173h)
2. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (129h)
3. Dragons Dogma 2 (126h)
4. Bloodborne (46h)
5. Final Fantasy 7 Remake (31h)

Total - 449 hrs

Elden Ring - 108 hrs
Ghost of Tsushima - 75 hrs
Diablo 4 - 74 hrs
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - 53 hrs
Spiderman 2 - 34 hrs

I'd guess that 20-30% of those hour counts are on a pause screen.

Yeah same.

Say I am in Scotland and order a PS Portal but my PS5 is in London. Am I able to play it?

Yes but it depends on the quality of both internet connections, it'll always work much, much better at home.

They also recently added an update so if you have PS+ Premium you can stream a load of games directly from the Cloud and it's basically like playing games natively, works even better than to the PS5 itself. It's completely changed the machine.

Both have high speed internet. That's me sold then. In terms of setup, I assume it will be fine to order to Scotland and then use without being beside my PS5 at home?

Definitely think this is counted. I often leave the console on / on sleep / paused just in the hope that I’ll be able to play at some point. 72 hours playing Far Cry 6 just didn’t happen.
