Gaming PlayStation 5

How far you thought the game?
Made it to the capital city, rank 8 as an archer, switched to warrior... It's just not really dragging me in. The combat is a bit shit when you compare it to many other current games, the world a bit empty and fake difficulty by just not having fast travel unless you have the item so you will stumble on some big creature. Just feels inconvenient. Oh and when you beat these creatures, you hardly get anything worth keeping. Just very... "Meh".

Anyone else gonna get Dragons Dogma 2? I feel like DD1 was one of the most underrated games on the ps4 I absolutely loved it. It looks like they have just doubled down with all the best best parts of the first game.

Biggest letdown of the century if you ask me. I loved the first one even though it was a little rough around the edges, but this one is just througly mediocre. Besides the combat which is still fun, the rest is sub par and then some.

Why do you feel that way? I don’t remember the last time I was so addicted to a game. It’s not a perfect game, but it’s clearly nearly perfect for me. I’ll be surprised if I don’t put in at least 100 hours. What do you think it’s letting it down?

I loved dragons dogma but knowing they will inevitably bring out a huge dlc I am just going to wait for that for the s cons game.

Its just so much wasted potential. It could have been spectacular, but its just DD1 with a bigger map and a new coat of paint. Its not bad , its a solid 7,5/10 imo. The world, story, quests and NPC's all feel very last gen. I find myself clicking through almost all dialogue because its just meaningless chatter for the most part

The "Open world" is not open at all. Its just a bunch of narrow paths. I get why they did that, its easy to sheperd players through certain points so they could dot them with encounters but it really saps my enjoyment because its all cragged woodland that looks the same

Heard a few people say this but I disagree. It’s got real verticality which makes it feel more realistic than many other open worlds. Once you get to bahtal it does open up further with wide open spaces, but still retains that feeling of verticality. Personally I think it’s very well done as that way they can hide all manor of chests, caves and enemies.

Fair enough about the verticality, it does add another layer to it, but i still find the enviroments a bit dull because of the design choices.

Rumor has it that the RE engine open world in DD2 is being used as a test for an open world RE9 game which I'd be weirdly excited about it if true (could be complete bs). RE games have always tried new things and this would be very different and would have the potential to be either brilliant or a horrible mess.

Tempted to get DD2 but i'm hoping they'll patch it lots before I do.

Wouldn't an open world Resi game just be dead rising?
Just seems a hell of a lot easier to script a somewhat linear game and i'm not sure if collecting Jill Valentine bobbleheads in random corners of the map will add much to the more horror focused RE.
Open World Monster Hunter which is definitely in development seems more likely.

So I’m tempted to buy a PlayStation 3 that’s in decent condition, with the intention of cycling back around and cleaning up some Platinum trophies I missed. Would that work? Would there be any issue with me having an account associated with multiples consoles? In this case, a PS3 and a PS5, obviously.

they’d probably think something is wrong with you and you’d end up on some kind of register.

Nah, you'll be fine. I've got a PS3 that I dig out every few weeks trying to get more trophies.

Dusted off my PS5 for the first time in 7 or 8 months. Got myself Helldivers 2 and I’m enjoying it immensely. I haven’t got the time or patience to faff about with adventure games or anything too involved these days so just being able to jump in and blow up a load of stuff is right up my street.

Should be absolutely fine, I regularly play on PS3, PS4, PS5 and Vita with same account.

I'm enjoying what I've played of the Stellar Blade demo...... Very Nier

I finished DD2 a few days ago. Like Diablo 4 the reviews are way too positive. I can say i probably didnt change vocations enough to get the variety of combat but that was because getting the best gear is expensive and i didn't have a good way to make tons of gold. Its a decent game, but the metacritic average is around 9/10. I wouldnt give more than a 7 at most. Lots of good looking combat animations, but it becomes hollow after the 1st 10 hours. Shite story and shite open world. Its like really shit smaller skyrim but with only selling point being varied combat and pawns. Quests are abysmal and so is story. I played it on PC and its terribly optimized. I would only recommend it on a sale.

Think this is very harsh. But tbf the game isn’t for everyone. It’s a pretty unique style. I have definitely started to feel the grind abit at this point, but that’s only because I’m 80 hours on and just so ridiculously OP that the challenge has all but gone now. I think I’d probably be best finishing the main story soon before I end up putting it down completely.

My verdict is more in line with the general user reviews. I think its decent but gets vastly inflated review scores due to being a AAA game. Combat is good and the pawns are good npc companions. However too many quests are poor and the lack of mounts and because the limited fast travel getting from A to B bececomes a drag imo. There is one quest in the end game where i have to escort a smith from his home to a base. I used a trainer to speed up the entire game because he was so slow. Then he died. Luckily i had 1 wakestone to revive. If i hadnt i would have to go questing for wakestone shards and you can't progress to ng+ without succeeding this mission.

And ng+ doesnt even up the difficulty so you just oneshot all enemies. On top of that the save game mechanics belong in the dark ages.

Decent but also full of flaws.

I gave in and got the portal now that my tv time is much more limited than it used to be. It’s great! Can’t believe how well it works once the ps5 is on Ethernet. Lovely screen and love how it retains the dual sense

Yep love mine too - just wish there was a better way of using the trackpad functionality

Yeah, i've yet to finish it because i can only stomach half an hour - an hour at a time before i become bored out of my mind. The first few hours was decent because traveling at night posed some challenge, but i've finished most of the main quest now and there is zero challenge left in the open world besides the Drakes

The first dragons dogma was one of my favourite games, especially with the dlc. As long as the combat is fun that's enough for me, that's what I loved the first for.

I have plus premium for the next 3 months, any hidden gems I should try? I don't like multiplayer.

There are so many but my top picks would be

OUTER WILDS (One of the best ever) - base game and echoes
Subnautica
Discon Elysium
Hollow Knight

Finished FFVII Rebirth, finally. Just like Remake, it can drag on.

Solid 7.5/10

Currently playing through Sifu and oh my god its brilliant.
