Gaming PlayStation 5

In the past companies have been known to take more orders than they can fulfill. Some may only have a rough idea of how many Sony will give them. As many of the websites are struggling to cope, they may even end up selling more than they expect. There is talk that Very have already started to cancel some preorders. I haven't paid Game a penny yet, they could cancel my order tomorrow and not even worry about refunds etc.

I noticed earlier that the Ebuyer store page says "All pre-orders are reported daily to Sony for stock allocation, a pre-order does not guarantee stock on the launch date."

Amazon is the gold standard preorder imo, especially if get in at the first wave of their orders. They will already have mountains of them stashed away, they own their own delivery network and have excellent Customer Service.

Just a few days ago shopto cancelled every preorder of the new Mario game because they couldn't get enough stock:

Cheers for that. I was lucky I managed to get one on Amazon this morning!

Weirdly I’ve not seen any games for sale on the site though!

I remember when I got the PS4 I just went to gamestop day of release after school And got it.

Talks are that the next batch will be around January time cause of covid. Insane.

It’s not just Covid . They have bigger fanbase, so a bigger demand. They releasing in more countries. Last time around they didn’t release in Asia until February.

I appreciate knowing what time it’s starting. Doesn’t help all the retailers are doing the PS5 at separate times. Once people can’t get one with a certain retailer, they move on to the next and the site crashes. If they all opened at the same time maybe that wouldn’t happen. After Argos, it will probably be John Lewis.
Yeah, is that down to Sony or retailers though? Sony said pre-orders will begin today and then retailers just started opening them up last night. Seems a clusterfeck.

But I've got mine so roll on November 19th.

Any news on what happens next?

When do they “restock” the pre order? I’m in NA and it is sold out everywhere.

Starting to thing the people who missed out will have to wait until January or December at the earliest BUT whose to say this BS won’t happen again? Never seen a Console drop happen like this before.
Apparently there are still some left in Canada. You'll just have to find a way to sneak over the border if you are from US.

There has been talk about reduced production numbers, but Sony denied it yesterday and said that PS5 supply will be higher than PS4 throughout the launch window.

There is a report on ResetEra which says that Best Buy don't expect their new batch of systems to reach customers by 'street day' but who knows if that means they will be ready for 2 days after launch or 2 months. Plus that is only one store and indeed, only one internet rumour.

Retailers pushed the button last night. But Sony didn’t really say a specific time. A few months ago they were saying we going to give everyone warning about when preorders start. I was hoping they do what MS did and what Apple have done for years with iphone. Give a time and date. Still would have been chaotic, but you know what time it is starting. Just look at this nonsense with Argos.

My phone died in the middle of the night and the charger lead fell out so my alarm didn't go off  so no amazon for me.

Amazon haven't listed any games yet. They gradually added the spare controllers, headphones etc throughout the day and more will come online soon. Amazon don't charge you until dispatch so I picked up a preorder for an extra controller and the 3d headphones. I can see what the reviews are like closer to the time and then decide if I want them. I think the headphones and charging dock are both sold out.

The way this was done/handles is super frustrating.

I can currently get to the Ebuyer payment screen with very little fuss @TrustInJanuzaj but something gives me pause re. that listing. Its a reputable store that I have bought PC parts from in the past, but they have made this very clear:

***Please be aware a pre-order does not guarantee stock at launch - all pre-orders are registered with Sony for stock allocation***

Im not convinced that you would get one from there one launch day at this point - that site has been getting a lot of traffic for hours. Though I could be wrong, they may have mountains of consoles in a cupboard

Are amazon decent for pre orders now then? I stopped using them a few years ago because they missed deadline day a few times in a row despite me paying for it and that was just games, not a console.

I have had a couple of games turn up a day late over the past few years. But I suppose the question is where is more reliable? Game have plenty of issues of their own.

I suppose picking up from a store would be better if you can manage that?

What the sod happened to these ShopTo pre-order queues then?! I signed up months ago, but haven't heard a peep and now all their pre-orders are sold out.

You need to try and log in to your account there and then look at your pre orders then expand the one for the ps5 then click the green 'confirm pre-order' button. You'll see a warning that even this doesn't guarantee you one, but if, like me you did this back in early June then I'd like to think you and I will be at the front of the queue and we'll ahead of anyone who pre ordered since that date.

I'll be absolutely fuming if I get told I didn't get one only to find that people who pre ordered today get one at launch. I've been in the queue for 3.5 months

Was quite shocked when it went straight to the full amount. They better be guaranteeing launch day delivery for that!

Unfortunately they aren't, I noticed this earlier and mentioned it a few posts above. Not sure if this is the case earlier in the day, but there is now a warning saying

***Please be aware a pre-order does not guarantee stock at launch - all pre-orders are registered with Sony for stock allocation***

It may just be a standard warning and they could have plenty of stock. Ebuyer is a very reputable store, but this is something to keep an eye on. If you can get an amazon preorder at some point (who don't charge until dispatch) it might be worth grabbing one of those and getting a refund

It’s mad that Sony said they’ll be plenty of time for everybody to pre order and they’ll let us know. Entire UK region asleep. Ok let’s release the consoles now. Like what the feck. I didn’t even know it was happening last night.

It wasn’t Sony it was retailers, though they should have said 9am or given a time like @Bojan11 said.

Yeah, I'm going to try and get myself one from a preferred store and then cancel this one if at all possible.

Not meaning to put you off, ebuyer is a perfectly fine store. I just find the bold warning about launch day a little troubling.

Haven't bought from them in 5 years, tbh. But never had an issue when I did. I tend to go John Lewis because of their no quibble policies and extended warranty and will do again if I get the chance.

I preordered from Gamestop.ie yesterday. Pre orders were up about 5 mins after the show ended, they've been taking pre, pre orders in store for months too. Sony shouldn't have said people will have notice before preorders. The retailers were always going to have a say and they were already lining up customers then.

Ahh, thanks! See, this is the kind of information I would have expected them to email out or something. Seems like this pre-order cycle has been an absolute nightmare.

This ^

Also, if you've pre-ordered a pre-order on multiple items - such as extra controller etc - then you have to confirm the pre-order on one item, then go back to 'My Account', then back into 'Pre-orders' and then confirm the next item.

Ace, thanks! Looks as though you've got until the 24th to make up your mind about redeeming your place in the queue which is a relief. Pre-ordered at the back-end of May, so if I did want a console at launch I suppose I'd be pretty close to the front of the queue.

Well, I'd like to think that these 'pre-order your pre-order' things we did over a month ago stand up and actually hold you a spot before those that were just quick on the trigger this morning....and not be just the retailer's way of getting a gauge on how much stock they need to bump up their allocation from Sony. But who knows...

So what’s the state of play now then, gents? Who is still in the hunt? How many of you are pinning your hopes on Argos in a few hours?
