Gaming PlayStation 5

Looking through their backlog and I think i've been kind of mystified by the acclaim of every one of their titles i've played. Spyro was ok, early ratchet was pretty good. Resistance was terrible, sunset overdrive was ok. Spiderman was a pretty mediocre game elevated by it being a spiderman game and the previous 10 titles being total dogshit. Its a pretty meh line up for me to be honest.
Ratchet's always been highly regarded and i guess I'd be more enthusiastic about them if i liked the genre more. But then most of their titles are quite highly regarded and they seem pretty forgettable at best to me.
I think their recent games have all been really solid 8/10s. But, if you don’t like story driven action games, which from your post history, you clearly don’t, I can see why you’d find them a bit meh, which is fair enough.

I don’t think their games are ever anything groundbreaking but they always play well, look incredible, have solid stories with fun dialogue, and are extremely polished.

Resistance was far from terrible. Great fun.

I've always considered Spiderman quite lame so I've never played the games. Perhaps I'll give this new one in October a go considering all the hype it's getting currently.

Go and play the Remaster of the 1st and Miles. 1st is a great game.

They're simple ubioft open world at their core but the traversal is loads of fun and combat (standard batman/ac/som type) satisfying.

Makes for a great package. Nothing ground breaking but good fun.

Story driven action games probably make up 90% of AAA development, theres plenty i like. I might be quick to write them off a bit at this point because its so oversaturated. I dont think i disagree with a solid 8/10 rating though so

Traversal is a lot of fun in them when they get it right and its pretty good in this case.

Better story than the MCU guff as well.

If superhero stories aren't your thing, I get that. The latest games from Insomniac are just massively fun though. I would still be wary of recommending them to you unless you don't see the story as distracting.

Funny, i was just thinking if they delivered that storyline in a comic it'd get torn to shreds and be amongst the worst series in the characters history. I thought it was a weak interpretation of the character.

I have actually enjoyed Rift Apart a lot, I like the fact it’s almost completely linear as I don’t think the recent open world games have got the whole open world thing right anyway. I’m probably like halfway through this and I reckon it will be the fourth game I have finished on my PS5, after Ghost of Tsushima, GTA V and TLOU 2. In almost 3 years that is quite disappointing. I intend to give Forbidden West a second go after this, maybe it will engross me more this time.

Play Returnal you gimp.

I think maybe it’s that for me as I couldn’t get into Returnal either. When a game is overly sci-fi and has so much happening on screen I just lose interest. Whilst some may enjoy the chaos I find it it detracts as I don’t know where to look half the time.

I also think I’m just mostly done with games that play like animated films. Granted I didn’t play long but I got the impression you just follow the story, new area, kill bad guys, go through certain rifts that have been placed there, etc… new bad guys, shoot stuff, etc..
That's basically perfection for me

I really liked the game and wish it were longer. I've always loved the R&C series, though.

I want to try Returnal, but the starting over after death mechanic is kind of putting me off. I don't mind dying a lot and having to continuously retry a fight. Having to start the entire game over, because you made a mistake sounds really frustrating.

That's not really how it works. It's a roguelike of course, but you don't start from scratch and have to do every little thing again.

Also the levels change, to some degree, so it's not too samey either. The combat/gameplay loop is very good too.

Yeah, I've watched quite a bit of gameplay. It looks fun. That's why it's on my radar. I will play it at some point.

Remnant 2 is a lot of fun in case anyone is on the fence about buying it.

The changes to a class system is really good, especially as you can combine any two classes. Given there's at least 8 classes, the combinations are pretty vast

Been playing the 1st recently

May as well do it while you can :)

Oi!!!

@swooshboy did you ever run through the last couple levels on SE5? I jumped onto the 2nd last one and it 100% isn't a good setting imo, sniping is basically impossible due to the layout, everything bunched in, and loads of rubble so it's super difficult to spot enemies.

I haven’t done them - would be up for giving them a go!
Feels like they missed the point with a few of the levels - there didn’t seem to be as many opportunities for actual sniping in this game compared to the previous ones.

Has this been mentioned?

Seems a bit late to hand out Dreams at this point, one month before they're going to stop supporting it. I already own the other two, so not a great month for me personally but they are pretty good additions nonetheless.

Deaths door is lovely. But having played it there’s nothing really for me this month. Hope extra is kinder to me!

I've looked at deaths door a few times so I will pick that up.

Not interested in dreams.

Already got PGA, but it's a solid month again.

Yeah, they've made some levels great and some shite. We will def finish it off.

Think maybe some levels require more melee stealth than sniping people in the bollocks.

Deaths door is excellent. Played on game pass last year

I honestly thought Dreams was free to play.
