Gaming PlayStation 5

I'm not into the whole Xbox vs PS thing as i've always been team Sony but can anyone list any of the big hitters that Sony are going to miss when this activision deal goes through? Spyro and Crash (i don't play either ) are obviously big franchises but CoD is not an exclusive (i don't play that anyway).

Don't think i'm going to be missing out on much but might be wrong, hence the question.
List of notable Activision-Blizzard franchises: Call of Duty, Crash, Spyro, Diablo, Overwatch, Skylanders, Tony Hawk's, Guitar Hero, Hearthstone, StarCraft, Warcraft, Candy Crush

There's really not much you'd miss out on Playstation. Quite a few franchises that are either dead or dying, though I imagine Microsoft would want to try and bring some life back into some of them.

Main ones (other than CoD) are Overwatch, Diablo and Crash IMO. The new Diablo did well but Activision are killing Crash at the moment and I don't know much about Overwatch (2nd game didn't do well did it?)

What games make best use of the controller? I've only played Diablo and Final Fantasy so far. Going to get Last of Us and Elden Ring at some point.
Astro and Rachet - both of which are excellent games in particular the latter which has to be among the best this short generation.

But the impact of the controller is much greater. For example I adore Cyberpunk but playing it without the adaptive triggers to give each gun its own feel and feedbacks seems far too basic an experience. Same with Ghostwire which I just finished - the controller really elevates it.

Thanks. I'm not really seeing a lot there that i'd personally want to play....actually nothing there at all to be honest . But i can see why it's a big move and will draw in more players.

The Bethesda purchase might be more of a draw towards Xbox, unless you have a gaming PC.

Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2 are leaving PS+ in mid-August. Would recommend at the least playing through 0 before they go if you haven't.

Been meaning to play 0 so thanks. Though I'm still feeling burnt out from how much content the first game had. Is it more of the same but just better? Because I got that Kiwami 2 was like that but I didn't really care to do it all again but slightly better.

0 is miles better than Kiwami but I did play it first.

Play 0, you won't regret it.

Remind me, if you download it before then can you still play it or will it become unplayable?

Hadn't got round to 0 but do really want to play it having played all the others.

Nope, they are part of PS Plus Extra collection so once they are gone you can’t play them. Rather than rushing through them (as they are quite lengthy) I would probably recommend just buying 0 if you’d like to play it, it costs like £10 these days. Personally I did not get into it at all though and ended up giving up 3-4 hours in.

Unplayable but you should be able to get through the story before it goes. I managed it in three weeks even though I got sidetracked for ages on the main two minigames.

Tried Ratchet and Clank but I just don’t think it’s my type of game. I understand it’s technically very impressive and looks good but I dunno just didn’t feel an urge to carry on playing.

Had the exact same feeling when playing it. Dropped it halfway through the second planet.

I liked it, just turned up the difficulty, changed the controls, and played it like Returnal...

I think maybe it’s that for me as I couldn’t get into Returnal either. When a game is overly sci-fi and has so much happening on screen I just lose interest. Whilst some may enjoy the chaos I find it it detracts as I don’t know where to look half the time.

I also think I’m just mostly done with games that play like animated films. Granted I didn’t play long but I got the impression you just follow the story, new area, kill bad guys, go through certain rifts that have been placed there, etc… new bad guys, shoot stuff, etc..

I haven't touched my PS5 in months. I tried playing the Lego Star Wars game, which was cute but ultimately didn't hold my interest. Really need Spiderman 2 to be released because that's one game that's guaranteed to be fantastic.

I also just tried Humanity. Played 3 levels, went “I get the gist” and deleted it.

Not sure if it’s me that’s the problem or the games just aren’t that interesting.

Going to try Rain World.

I had the same problem recently. I finished Horizon Forbidden West and thought to myself; "Why? I hated that."

I'm giving up open world checklist games for the time being. I'll probably make an exception for Spiderman because it's so good. But right now I'm playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time and enjoying it.

I sometimes do that  game ends up more of a chore, but you feel you need to complete it. I quite liked HFW, but can't stand the Spiderman games, never managed to get into either of them, just seem very boring and repeatable, disliked the fighting systems too. Probably didn't give them enough time though, maybe they grow a bit more further in.

This is why I couldn’t be arsed with TLOU but enjoyed the series.

See I loved TLOU. I think it's because although yes the areas you go are predetermined, what happens in them isn't.

In R&C there's lots of weapons but at the end of the day it's a load of enemies all alerted to you standing in different areas and you fire a certain weapon at each one. They'll have a health bar and then they die.

In TLOU you can avoid completely if you wish (or try). You can try to take them down one by one if human. Things can go wrong, others notice you. You might have to run and hide, etc.. I had times where I died and tried brand new approaches and it always felt fresh. Probably due to the stunning animations and the weight to everything you did.

Loved the previous R&C 2016, platted it, Rift Apart left me feeling very uninterested. Did about 3 - 4 hours and decided I didn’t really care, dunno why.

I watched the trailer for the new Avatar game coming out in December last night. It looks spectacular. Just hope the game lives up to the graphics.

Remnant 2 is coming out really soon. Yes, I realise it's not a PS5 exclusive, but anyone else hyped and going to be playing it?

Probably not on launch, it mostly depends on how good the PC version is, but I will definitely be playing it at some point. I really enjoyed the first one (despite mainly playing it solo) and hopefully this pushes on.

Its all flash and no bang no for me.

 looks so good. Insomniac just pump out good game after good game.

Looking through their backlog and I think i've been kind of mystified by the acclaim of every one of their titles i've played. Spyro was ok, early ratchet was pretty good. Resistance was terrible, sunset overdrive was ok. Spiderman was a pretty mediocre game elevated by it being a spiderman game and the previous 10 titles being total dogshit. Its a pretty meh line up for me to be honest.
Ratchet's always been highly regarded and i guess I'd be more enthusiastic about them if i liked the genre more. But then most of their titles are quite highly regarded and they seem pretty forgettable at best to me.
