Gaming PlayStation 5

I remember playing all 5 games through lockdown. All brilliant games 1-4, Uncharted 4 in particular was class. The Lost Legacy which is the final game in the instalment thought it was not bad but nowhere near as good as the previous 4. As just not the same without Nathan Drake & Sully
Yeah, I should say I've played 4 and LL and enjoyed them both. Bit worried that U2 will feel bad in comparison.

Don't know whether to replay all of forbidden west before I do the DLC or just get straight on with the DLC while not having a clue about the controls anymore

To go back to uncharted 2. You have to compelte on crushing for the platnium trophy. No way could I do that.

I actually did that (on my first playthrough). Took a while but if I could do it anyone could do it, honestly. Got no chance of doing Brutal though (DLC trophy, doesn't count for Platinum but does for 100%).

What I'm missing for Platinum:

Uncharted 2
  1. Staying dry - Complete Chapter 3 in less than 6m 30s
  2. Quick Jaunt Through a Warzone - Beat Chapter 5 in less than 7m 30s
Uncharted 3
  1. Outrun the Flames - Beat Chapter 7 in less than 9m 30s
  2. Catch that Plane! - Beat Chapter 16 in less than 12m
  3. My Horse is Faster - Beat Chapter 20 in less than 15m
Then got quite a few for Uncharted 4 including beating it on Crushing, some multiplayer trophies and some buggy other trophies. The most depressing one to miss out on was "Peaceful Resolution" - I followed every step, took bloody ages and it didn't pop.

I imagine I'll be able to do the speedrun ones eventually.

The toughest bit about Uncharted 2 on Crushing was the very end boss fight but there was cheese for it which does work if you do decide to try it on Crushing - just search on YouTube. I still died on that part like 30 times though.

Been playing Horizon Forbidden West
Bit disappointing really. Have a hard time placing why. I guess its just more of the same. Doesn't help that it takes hours to get going and the map to open up a bit. I started enjoying the first one a lot more once it got going so hopefully this follows the same path.

It's the size of those games that put me off. So bloody massive. I did enjoy the VR game, though.

I loved the first game, found this one a total slog.

Can you say why? I'm feeling the same but i couldn't say anything specific its bad at (other than taking way too long to get going)
They overcomplicated everything. Too many weapons, too many ways to upgrade, the way you have to fight machines now and be so precise knocking things off. Getting knocked over ALL the fecking time and taking forever to get up is the worst part, especially when there's no parry mechanic or auto lock meaning you're just rolling around like a tit most of the time trying to avoid their stupid attacks. The story is crap, Aloy is much more irritating, the game is "open" but locks off so much to you until later on (I mean why bother with all the ? marks when most of 'em are locked off until really late on in the game cause you haven't unlocked the mechanic/item yet, it just totally discourages exploration).

The more I think back on it the more I hate it. Incredibly polished and beautiful game but everything they introduced just made it more annoying to play than the first one. It's like they ran out of ideas on how to actually improve the mechanics of the first game and address its biggest problems so decided to just go bigger and assume people would be happy with that. And maybe most were.

I feel you on the too many options. Overwhelming.

I agree with some of this definitely.

Too many weapons, too many choices, they're not explained well at all how the status effects work and weakness etc. There's a good video on YouTube that explains it though and makes the game much better imo.

The getting knocked over infuriated me too, so agile running about, but feckin useless once she gets knocked over, gets up like a 90year old.

I enjoyed the fights though still, I just learned to approach situations much more carefully. (Still dislike the set piece battles where the machines know you're there so you can't creep on them).

There's an option in settings so you don't have to knock the pieces off to collect them, once you kill the machine you can harvest all parts, one of the settings I first changed. Couldn't be arsed being that precise.

I enjoyed it by the end, the story isn't great but some introductions of new characters and machines were great set pieces. Also some of the areas are feckin beautiful. I'm definitely replaying it all but gonna take more time. Then do the DLC.

Agree with Aloy, she's feckin demented, constantly talks to herself. The puzzles she basically solves for you as you walk into an area, discover new area, 2 seconds later "maybe I could use my grapple".

Human combat sucks still.

Story didn't live up to the first imo.

Still a great game, I like how the machines never just get more HP and stronger weapons because you've levelled up so they have. You actually feel more powerful fighting later in the game, instead of feeling "oh I'm the same toughness as the enemy" as most games decide to do it. Obviously you get their stronger variants.

Oh my Christ, her talking during puzzles was the worst. You spot a chest "oh maybe I can use that chest to get up there". Yeah, no shit!

I also love how she always gives a running narrative of the really obvious bits but when it came to the more complicated puzzles I'd be stuck on for ages, she was too.

Also, speaking of puzzles, some of them are HORRIBLE, especially those vista points and relics, like crazy convoluted and awkward and require you to move something stupidly precisely or use the focus to spot a needle in a haystack. And I don't mean in a "this is clever and really picking my brain" really, more just totally infuriating at how the devs thought they were clever and not just really annoying.

@Vidyoyo - just in the middle of one of your faves now, Nier: Automata.

The Witcher 3 left a gaping hole in my life once I’d finished.

Anyway, loaded up Automata on Wednesday and about 20 hours in now. It’s lovely. You were right. Definitely right. Seeps into your soul. The soundtrack is a character of its own.

Currently playing Burning Shores on the ps5. It was pretty good. 5-10 hours worth of content. It was nice getting back into the game. Even though I've forgotten about most of the controls. Just wish they'd move the camera back abit. Always feel like I'm about to be fecking stuffed up at Dino mechs arse when he attacks. Its a bit too up close because you can't really see where you are dodging. Story was very basic though.

Anyone have that Edge controller? Thinking about picking that up

Looks nice but the price tag is what has completely put me off that controller. The original Dualsense is without doubt the best controller out there and I don’t see any issues with them, so you’d expect a more professional version will be even better particularly when you are paying over £200!

I think if you play competitively then you won’t give it a second thought and purchase it for those back buttons & analog stick adjustments but I am more of a casual gamer than a serious competitive one. More than happy with the current Dualsense controller and don’t see the value for paying over £200 for a controller unless like I said, you take your gaming competitively serious that you need an over £200 controller.

Don’t know how much the Xbox elite controller costs in comparison?

I felt the same and I loved the original. I stopped the second one about halfway through and haven’t got back into it since (and it’s been more than a year). Similarly I could not quite wrap my head around what caused this as the formula seemed basically the same. Maybe it’s the open world fatigue.

Its just a weak sequel. Massive Spanner lists a bunch of problems and theres dozens more. All pretty minor but they add up.
I think basically anything that isn't fighting machines is crap and they've created a lot of obstacles to enjoying that. Exploring would probably be more enjoyable if they didn't block so much of it off behind story progress but they have so its pointless mostly.

I enjoyed it a lot tbh, I get some of the criticisms and others I don't get... but none of them affected me. Great game

In other news, the £70 game RRP experiment is failing....

The price combined with the fact that so many games are coming out unfinished and poorly optimised now means much more people (me included) wait longer until the games have been heavily patched and are lower in price to buy them.

in what other medium can you pay full price for the worst version of a product vs waiting six months for a much better version of it at half the cost? Of course if you increase the pride it’ll put people off.

there are some exceptions like Ragnorak which was already incredibly polished and warranted the full price but most games don’t.

Nice! It does take a while to get going but it's one of those games that does so many things right.

Not surprised either. You can only really get away with those increased prices for the first year of a new console launch.

Edit - Or if you're selling something that keeps its value like Nintendo's approach with the Switch cartridges.

But …
I do have a couple of grumbles but no way game spoilers. It can be very unclear what you need to do, where you need to go. The map and quest tracking is pretty poor.

Also, I did the bit where the huge robot comes out of the sea and you lose 9s and then found about 4 or 5 active quests became void and disappeared. No explanation why either.
Loving it though, especially as I’m levelling up. Hours get eaten up really quickly. It looks lovely, sounds lovely and the combat is really good fun.

I have a feeling I’m going to get tears in my eyes at some point soon.

This is almost exactly how I feel, and I loved the first game.

Xbox controller is a tad cheaper. I do like my elite but the build quality is a disgrace. I would hope the edge is better on that front.

I would want it for the back paddles, which I used a lot on xbox, but with the PS5 being my second machine it's probably not worth it. If I played 3rd party games on it I would get it for sure.

I'm playing Jedi survivor now but when I'm done I'm going to play Uncharted 3. This is supposed to be the second weakest after 1, right?

So far dude, yeah. So many great games from the last few years I’ve still got to play and catch up with.

What aren you playing? CP2077 still?
I had to force myself to stop playing Cyberpunk

Now I’m currently in the middle of
Judgment
Deathloop
Witcher 3 next gen (4th play through)
Last of Us II (2nd play through)
Tales of Iron

I’ve basically started to enjoy playing different games in short bursts rather than one game for a prolonged period of time. It’s all very weird.
