Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Okay. feck it, just feck it! I've decided to get a PS4 in a couple of weeks.. I'm obviously getting FIFA - are there any other MUST games at the moment? How about multimedia opportunities on it?

Is it really though? There are games you can complete in 8hrs...

Good point, actually how does rental time work? I mean I'll be from point of purchase I assume? The 4 hour rental frame could work if its time you actually played the game. You'd still have to rent it 2 or 3 times to complete mind. Even if it is from point of purchase you could do it in stints I suppose.

Yeah, I just found that out now.

In that case, is anyone looking forward to this feature?

It looks a pretty good feature but I'm not sure my internet would cope. The prices are a little bit mental too.

It's not a PS4 feature, the intention is to roll it out over multiple devices. It has nothing to do with the PS4 at all, other than the PS4 being one of the clients that will run it.

I see.

The price options for a lot of the games are: $2.99 per 4hrs, $5.99 per 7 days, $7.99 per 30 days, and $14.99 per 90 days. It'll most likely be 3 pounds, 6 pounds, etc, for UK, though.

As I've said, the price options are not finalised, and there will also be a subscription model. I believe that they've already in the Beta put the lowest price down to $1.99.

None of it!

I'm simply explaining what it is. Personally I have no interest in it for obvious reasons.

So what do you think the final prices will be?

I'm also wondering, does this have anything to do with the recent u-turn on EA's shit...Hmmmm.

Seems like the war is beginning to me. Shame this gen is all about money grabbing remakes and getting those people signed up...

Because you don't actually play games? That's it right?

Weaste plays games and he knows his stuff. He's trying to remain positive in the face of utter shit though, sadly.

Although he doesn't play other console exclusives, so when he rants about that subject people should tell him to feck right off ;)

I've played more than probably anyone here other than Lambs in my time, so, no!

And as a real programmer/hardware man, I'm sure it's getting a real struggle to support this shit.

Remember when the likes of you ran this industry? The PS4 would certainly not be a piss-ant, watered down PC wannabe that's for sure...

I have no idea what the final prices will be, it's just a rental/streaming service where you can play the Playstation library on different devices for a fee. You can buy a Blu-Ray movie, you can rent a Blu-Ray movie, you can stream it from Netflix if you want, it's just an option.

The rebuttal of EA was more to do with PS+ than this, but there is an obvious cross-over when this has its Netflix-like subscrpition model applied to it.

This gen isn't about remakes, Sony has released one, of a year old game so far, and it made sense due to the critical acclaim it got, the amount of PS4 owners that didn't already play it, the amount it already sold (7m approx) and the relative cost of porting up. The fact that Naughty Dog handled it themselves rather than it being palmed off to Bluepoint or whoever shows that at least some effort was put into it. If people wan to buy it twice, that's their decision.

Naughty Dog are like many of the Nintendo teams, or Rare of old. They take pride in their work and are still given a leash.

A dying breed that will eventually go. Some members have already gone, eventually everyone gets disillusioned. It's not a great industry to work in at all, very soul destroying.

I wish they'd just included backwards compatability.

Playstation Now will never work properly until internet speeds are extremely ramped up across the country/world. I know for a fact I'll never be able to stream anything because my internet is so bad.

Well, Kutaragi going nuts didn't really help matters did it? And then the PS3 GPU solution was fluffed, and then.... It didn't help that the entirity of the rest of the conglomerate was were going down the tube at the same time.

The Last of Us wasn't really supposed to exist at the time that it did. That team were attempting to reboot Jak. They felt that it wasn't working, so they pitched the idea of The Last of Us and Yoshida green-lit it instead. They are given a lot of freedom, but they deserve to be given a lot of freedom. The team within WWS that gets the most freedom is as you know, Polyphony. That's sort of "do what the feck you want in whatever timescale you want as long as it's GT". He's on the board of SCEI though!

It also didn't help that they were shit at software development.

The thing is with the Japs working on it, is that sense of superiority. Whereas with Nintendo and their support you could work with them, add code and build a base that everyone could work with, Sony just refuse to work that way. It stems from them wanting to be the best at everything I've always thought.

Ok, but they've changed a lot in those regards.

They tried, it didn't work! They did it with the PS3, it made it too expensive. You can't have it both ways!

Should really have kept my PS2 and get my PS3 fixed then I guess.

I'd honestly rather pay more for a console that can still play all the games I have now, thereby saving space and allowing me to get a little back for consoles I've owned and would no longer need. Ah well.

Streaming isn't the way forward for a long time yet though either way.

The launch PS3 could play PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games. It can play PS2 games through emulation, but it's hit and miss. Launch PS3s had PS2 hardware in them.

I know, I had one from launch.

I've currently got my mates as well because my Slim's Blu-Ray refuses to play anything other than Battlefield Bad Company 2 and I have no money to fix it.

Shouldn't have given my PS2 away last year as I'd have had the full set. Ah well.

Personally I think they should just remove the 4hr option or keep it as a one-time demo, and move the 4hr pricing to 1 day. Glad to see Sony listening to user feedback though.

The Last of Us is a must. One of the most intensive and mind blowing game you will ever come across. Game of the generation material.

Don't forget that FIFA 15 is out next month - so not sure whether current FIFA would be worthwhile.
