PL Matchday 2 | 24/8/24 - 25/8/24

We probably played better in the 2 games Vs Villa last season and lost both.

As we found out last season, don't take your chances when you are on top, your always run the risk of being punished at the other end.

What a player Trossard is. Brought Arsenal so many points and wins since coming to the club. Arsenal are quality side and won even if they weren't great. This could be the year like 19/20 was for Liverpool. Of course it depends on City as well.

Lucky, lucky Arsenal. Deserved 0. Got 3. Totally opposite from us.

This is delusional. They defended well against very tricky players and have the quality to hurt teams and take their chances. It’s nothing to do with luck. We aren’t good enough.

Agreed .You have to take your chances.

Difference being zero silverware for Arsenal in the last four seasons. They absolutely must win something this season.

Arsenal and Arteta are media darlings. Wenger used to get mocked for finishing second "master of failure" etc etc, despite the night and day difference between Wenger and Arteta in terms of success.
Arteta had to build a title challenging squad which takes time. Unfortunately, we live in a football culture where you now call 4 years a long time; it's not. Utd has changed 5 or 6 managers since their last Premier League title and Wenger was the manager of Arsenal for over 22 years. The point is, success takes time. Building a top squad takes time whilst also having the proper support from the management, leadership and money from the club. A lot has changed over the past 10 years in football but unfortunately, managers and coaches aren't being given the time to adapt their teams to these said changes.

Yup, honestly makes me a bit mad that we seem to be nowhere near that level. Brighton were there for the taking yet we conspired to lose that game.

Arsenal had their moments of scare but they came through that and are now seeing out a 2-0 win. Think this might be the year they win the title. They improved their squad depth which should help them keep fresh for the latter parts of the season.
There was no conspiracy. The players did school boy errors. You always defend the 2nd phase of a corner. It's where teams try to confuse the defense and make runs behind.

The save wasn't magical Gary. He did well to get to his feet but Watkins headed it right at him.
It was literally a save from a GK training drill. Basically just practice of getting up off the ground quickly.
I'm a level 4 GK coach. Been doing it for over 15 years. The reason why making a recovery save is difficult is because we have less than 50% arm push power after getting up. Most of a recovery save comes from your footwork and ability to get your hand behind the ball...from the ground. It's not as easy as it seems. GK training isn't easy.

Probably poor choice of words. I just wanted to say that we managed to lose that game even when Brighton were nothing special themselves. They were very ordinary.

No one said it was easy but it wasn't magical. He did well to get back up so quickly but it was headed right at him.

It's not a poor choice of words. It's a well known expression in that circumstance usually preceded by 'somehow', the poster may have misunderstood if they're not familiar with it or if English isn't their first language.

It really wasn't 'right at him' it was to his left but we'd agree to disagree.

Your being a little pedantic there. You know what I mean. It was within each and a comfortable height. I didn't say it wasn't a good save or that it was easy. My comment was about what I felt was Neville's over reaction as he's always at this type of thing.

Would you class it as magical, personally, or are you arguing with me for no good reason?

If I was as betting man, my money would be on Arsenal this year... City are due a couple of injuries and a hiccup or two. But not sure either side can afford more than two defeats other than against each other

Feel like Chelsea want to play like City while having no where near their quality on the ball. So many poor touches and giving the ball away in their own half.

This Wolves Chelsea game is insanely open, like both teams going for a winner in the 95th minute type business.

They have moments where they look really good, but their confidence is so fragile that one mistake or one chance to the opposition and they all seem to get the jitters.

PL refs have no common sense. Why stop the game there when you clearly saw he didn't pick up a serious head injury?

People don't realize this imo. Good teams make their own luck. Like yes Villa should have scored. But it happens, chances do get missed. Then when you have your chance what can you do? Troussard's snap shot was not easy by any means, but it was a quality finish and once you're ahead it's more than half the battle.

Also notice how little villa threatened after going down. Now imagine its us leading against Villa at their home. They would be all over us as we would be constantly giving the ball away and we would have to hunker down to protect the lead and of course that leads to an inevitable goal for them. That's why so many on redcafe don't believe this style from ETH will work. We don't value possession or control the game enough to win.

As accurate a description of current Chelsea as I’ve seen.

Great goal and well deserved by Wolves. Ait-Nouri is one to watch.
