PL Matchday 2 | 24/8/24 - 25/8/24

Goal from that guy... 2-0 is a great result

That’s a classic Partey goal. He’s brilliant at those first time side footed goals.

Villa have only themselves to blame. Watkins scored any of those chances and they would be cruising and free to catch Assna on the break.

Business as usual for Arsenal this season then. The only worry for them is it looks the same story for City.

On another day Watkins scores those and they're 2-0 down. The good teams always manage to make their own luck.

Annoying to lose but that's what happens when you don't take your chances against title contenders.

We'll comfortably challenge for top 4 again unless the CL really drains us. So much quality we have now in the final third with Rogers incredible improvement.

There’s something satisfying about Martinez making a mistake like that.

So basically Van Dijk is the best in the world and you don’t want anyone to challenge it? ok mate.

No, I didn't want to derail another thread and it's unlikely we would be able to change each other's opinion anyway, if you disagree with me. I also said "in my opinion" in my post.

Arsenal are approaching that City levels of efficiency in how they get the job done in games. They've done a good job building that squad.

Trossard sub changed the game, gave you more urgency and quality in that final third.
Brighton - Spurs - City next is a crucial moment. Either Trossard takes over for all those games and or he gives one more chance to Martinelli.

Trossard is very annoying as someone entirely opposed to Arsenal, but so effective at coming on and changing the course of a game.

Should get the nod really. Martinelli has been poor for a while now.

The way Saka stays down like he's seriously hurt (even though he initiated contact) seems to trick refs every time.

Physically Arsenal is really excellent, this team besides their technical prowess must be one of the strongest in the league.

I'm giving Calafiori credit for not taking a tumble at some point there, Martinez "slapped" him in the face, other shithouses would have gone to ground crying

The irony is that it reminds me of Utd under Fergie where you all had poor performances but somehow the score ended up in Utd's favor.

You have to give Arsenal a lot of credit. They’ve been battered for a large chunk of this second half after an even first half and Watkins has probably accumulated more XG alone than their whole team, but their goalkeeper and brilliant defence prevented them from conceding. One of their clinical attackers then scored from their first real chance after Villa’s spell and they took absolute control from there.

That is the blueprint for top teams to use to win away against a very good side, and it’s a blueprint we rarely follow under Ten Hag. We’d have lost this exact game that Arsenal have won with consummate ease.

Yup, honestly makes me a bit mad that we seem to be nowhere near that level. Brighton were there for the taking yet we conspired to lose that game.

Arsenal had their moments of scare but they came through that and are now seeing out a 2-0 win. Think this might be the year they win the title. They improved their squad depth which should help them keep fresh for the latter parts of the season.

I'm glad it's not just me who doesn't think it was as amazing as people were saying.
It was literally a save from a GK training drill. Basically just practice of getting up off the ground quickly.

Difference being zero silverware for Arsenal in the last four seasons. They absolutely must win something this season.

Arsenal and Arteta are media darlings. Wenger used to get mocked for finishing second "master of failure" etc etc, despite the night and day difference between Wenger and Arteta in terms of success.
