PL Gameweek 1 | 16/08/24 - 19/08/24

Unlucky for Eze, ref blew the whistle already.

That's a superb goal from Brentford, wonderful football and a lovely finish.

10 goals in 26 league appearances for Brentford as a RW(?) since last season is a pretty impressive return.

The defender was grabbing Hughes anyhow. It was as much a penalty for grabbing as it was a free kick for the defender

Yeah I wasn't replying about that, I am only half watching so not sure who fouled who or 50/50, I'd guess 50/50 as most are.

You can't just go around kicking shit out of people and throwing them to the ground because it isn't affecting the current play.

This ‘already blew the whistle’ bollocks is ruining the game. They overrule decisions all the time, it’s literally what var is for. Why’s the whistle sacred in this instance?

Because the game was dead before the ball crossed the line? So nothing can happen once the whistle is blown? So the goal wasn't a thing before the game was dead?

Really not sure how people are struggling to understand this.

The game was dead the moment VAR was introduced

Blowing the whistle didn't change anything. In a case like that VAR should really be able to intervene.

Keeper would say he just played to the whistle and didn't try, I mean we all know he was getting nowhere near it anyway. But it's play to the whistle.

It's harsh, ref made the mistake by blowing too quick.

You can't give a goal AFTER you've blown to stop the game. That makes no sense.

Amazingly bad refereeing to blow up in the first place and not wait a second or two, but then what's new?

So if you can't foul if it's not affecting play, why doesnt everyone just go round powerbombing each other off the ball?

Well firstly, because people simply don’t go around power-bombing people, and secondly - if a goal is disallowed for a foul, the law dictates it consider whether or not that foul had consequence in the goal. The ref blew too soon.

How's Wharton been playing? Only just started watching and I've seen him put in a delightful cross into the box.

Cracking game this really enjoying it

This Palace manager is brilliant he’s changed a dull Hodgson led team to a dynamic attacking side in a matter of months

I've seen enough. Wharton should be our midfield target next summer.

Agreed, he looks a tremendous talent, offers a highly rounded game already, driving Palace back into this game.

Unfortunately he will be everybody’s midfield target next summer.

Could understand if they were loath to throw a load of money on a Ugarte who might just be a stopgap for a year then end as another expensive squad player.
