PL Gameweek 1 | 16/08/24 - 19/08/24

Villa's squad depth is very good. For me they need a CB but I cant see them being too much behind the 68 points from last season. 3 or 4 points maybe around 5th

We'll need it this season for sure.

Incredible news that Kamara might be available in about six weeks which is some return from an ACL. Hope we're not rushing him back due to his general importance.

Maatsen will be class for us, lovely touch for the winner.

Ross Barkley unused sub today. The midfield looked a complete mess in pre season but it worked like a treat today against an awkward team who will improve once they integrate their new signings into the 11.

Hm seems like normal service resuming across the league. Gonna be a tough season for us, not that it wasn't going to be anyways.

Arsenal and City are obviously on another level to the rest of the league, but I can't see why we can't get 3rd?

Really rate Rodgers, Philogene and Ramsey. Probably 2 of the 3 to eventually play for England

I feel you are slightly overrating City and Arsenal there

Arsenal have the best defense in the world with great depth as well, 84 and 89 points in the last 2 seasons, very good midfield, despite room for improvement, great attack, despite room for improvement, great manager, incredible phyiscal levels throughout the squad. World class players in Saliba, Rice, and Saka. I don't see them dropping below 80 points and that's a worst case scenario, especially if they sign more players. The core of their squad is very young as well. I think every key player is in their mid-20s at best, but mostly early 20s. They should maintain this level for at least 5 more years if they don't mess it up for themselves. It's likely we haven't seen their peak yet.

City are the best team in the world. Best goal scorer + best #10 + best manager will probably mean the difference in the title race for the third season in a row.

And then, who is the best of the rest? Most people will say Liverpool but I don't think they'll have a great year. And even if they're 3rd best right now, they're still way off the top two IMO.

Duran has massive potential, could be one of the best strikers in the league with a bit of refining.

Good ebening picking up from where he left off with Villa last season, fair do's

Their standard is 85-90 points.

People think that's relatively straightforward to achieve but given there's only 114 points to play for it's really not. Basically means you have to win minimum of 15 home games and at least 10 games away and you still need a few draws on top of that.

Liverpool looked like getting into that group but fell away in the end and just manged to get past 80 points.

Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle, Villa, Brighton et al will all be fighting for the 3rd, 4th and 5th spots too. We need a lot of things to click for us to get up to speed and challenge consistently every week.

I'm not saying we're not capable but it doesn't look the opposition are weakened or will drop off (compared to previous seasons).

Anyways it's just typical week 1 posturing from me. We'll see after Christmas.

Good luck watching this shite. Life's too short.
 it is a bit rough. It's what always worried me with Dyche too in regards to his PL experience and trusting players he knows. Still having Michael Keane and Ashley Young in starting lineups and having to bring on Mason Holgate. Also not starting the other lads like Ndiaye too.

Still think we will stay up and be fine but it wasn't a good way to start at all. Especially that second half performance.

.
Seriously how are we not winning this 3 or 4.

West Ham away annoys me nearly as much as our annual capitulations at Old Trafford, one of those away games for us.

Karma for giving the world Agbonlahor maybe…

I thought West Ham looked really crap and it could be a case of being careful what you wished for in getting rid of Moyes.

Leicester 4/1 to beat Spurs at home, that's definitely worth a cheeky bet

They have no strikers. Vardy injured and Daka had surgery so he's out for a few months. Might have to stick Decordova-Reid up there.

Rumours they'll be a six point penalty for breach of FFP so going to be a long hard season for Leicester.

Rumours today that they could get hit with two separate points deductions.

Sad thing about that is they basically got relegated complying with FFP given they spent all summer getting a huge fee for Fofana from Chelsea and hardly signed anyone.

Still incredible to think a midfield of Ndidi, Tielemans, Maddison and Barnes actually got relegated.

They still have a few experienced players in their squad but some of them like Conor Coady hardly played last year and Dewsbury-Hall hasn't been replaced so think Cooper will come under pressure quickly especially with the Forest connection.

Yeah I think Leicester are nailed on to go down due to deductions and also barely reinforcing the squad they have. Think Ipswich will too just because of what we saw yesterday. They'll huff and puff like Luton but just not have the quality. After that it's a shoot-out between 5 or 6 sides.

Less than an hour to see our heir to our midfield throne :)

Sky should start doing a Skybet Super 6 style competition, but correctly picking Chelsea's starting 11.

Danilo somehow only out for 6-8 weeks after that injury yesterday

I thought they said he broke his ankle.

Oh I've looked online and the healing time is 6 - 10 weeks, so presumably a professional footballer with the medical care they have access to would be on the shorter end.

Is this a first today? Female lead commentator on a Sky PL game?

Just curious maybe I don't watch as many games as I used to or my memory is going.
